When I first saw that his home was in ballar territory, I kinda found it werid.

For point 6, once again, Big Smoke's infamous order was really just him ordering for the whole car as he repeats everyone's order and add his own stuff. Hence the "I'll take a number 9, fat boy", CJ was talking to Smoke and why Smoke asked him what he wanted in the first place.

"I'll have *Two number nines*, a number 9 large, *a number 6 with extra dip*, a number 7 (they start to turn around as he still ain't done), two number 45s, one with cheese, and a large soda. And lastly, you just have to have gone to a drive thru to know that one person (usually the driver but in this case, smoke) orders for the whole car as the microphone ain't gonna pick up everybody in the car

They were better off letting Ryder get eliminated in the last mission before Sweet is taken into police custody at that freeway war zone.

Ryder was in on it since the start. The San Andres introduction confirms he was a traitor early on when big smoke tells him about betraying sweet .

Most genius and hilarious part about that drive by mission with big smokes order. Is that at the end of the mission , Ryder gets pissed off cuz Smoke ate all ryders fries. Confirming that not only did he eat HIS WHOLE ORDER! But he also was eating Ryders too😭😭. So its the perfect alibi to not shoot back because he legitimately did wanna eat. But he also needed an excuse to not shoot😂

Running Man - you kill the errand boy Wrong side of the tracks - you kill ese’s going to get drugs in San Fierro Just Business - you kill the Russians who were trying to take some of Smokes turf Also the betrayal came from Sweet not wanting GS to sell crack

Reason 13; he is voice acted by Clifton Powell. If you are outside the black community; and you don't see a lot of street movies. Clifton Powell is always the bad guy in movies, he never plays a friendly character to the hero. Clifton Powell is like Christopher Lee; if you see Christopher Lee in a movie 90%; you know by instinct he is going to be the main bad guy or someone hostile to the hero.

The biggest sign was the entire Wrong Side of the Tracks mission

He had already betrayed them BEFORE CJ’s return

One big thing that jumped at me was how during the ordeal with russian mafia Big Smoke was constantly like "Come on CJ YOU SHOW THEM" and "That's my homie CJ" as if he wanted the russian mafia to know that it was CJ who killed so many of them

I know The Introduction is canon and is meant to be taken as such - but Ryder's betrayal was so badly implemented in-game. Pre-The Green Sabre there's basically no reason at all to suspect Ryder of being a traitor, but then all of a sudden he's put into The Green Sabre cutscene but is not even mentioned during or after the mission, all the way until a minor mention during Photo Opportunity, and then to his death in Pier 69. During Yay-ka boom boom, the ONLY canon mention of Ryder being a traitor was made by CJ and Cesar during the cutscene - and then after that, it was like Ryder never existed - he banishes from the game never to be mentioned again. Even the mission in where he's killed, Pier 69, seems to me created in DYOM but with voice-over - there's no elaborated cutscene or dialogue.

I was far more bothered that OG Loc had to be spared.

GTA SA is my most fav GTA ever. But one thing I never understand, Smoke supports the Ballas and never attacks them but we see him kill Vagos members in Running Dog and Wrong Side of the Track, we see he doesn't like Vagos much but then why do Vagos aid him in the final mission along side the Ballas. Ikr Vagos are the 2nd biggest rivals to GSF after Ballas (while main rivals of Aztecas) but Smoke wasn't in friendly terms with them and their main leader Big Poppa got killed in a home in the hills when we take over Madd Dog's mansion....

in my mind , smoke became so powerful after exiling cj from los santos and making sweet to be in jail. he was so powerful that vagos could not resist allying with him even though they have a rift between each other . but to be honest , this may happen in real life too ,right? we wont like some people . but they end up being our ally or boss because they are more powerful and influential .

I just discovered your channel last night and have been bingeing your videos. Great stuff man, really thought out and concise stuff.

Big smoke was ordering for the car, thats why his order was so long. He ordered everything everyone else wanted then added a few things for him self. The two number 9's were for Carl and Ryder then a number 6 with xtra dip for sweet. Big smoke got a number 9 large, number 7, and the two 45's. Granted that doesnt affect wether or not he ordered the 3 extra meals to buy time for a drive by.

The lore of GTA San Andreas never gets boring, and I always love it when its covered as it is one of my favorite games of all time. I know you mentioned Big Smoke jumps in the conversations when Sweet and CJ attempt to talk about the speculations behind their mother's death, but I am curious to know your thoughts if you think the reason he tried to shut it down during the mission drive thru is because he had a guilty conscious? Or because he was just paranoid they would eventually find out. CJ seemed pretty naive for the most part towards Smoke's intentions, but I am wondering if he was more worried about Sweet finding out. Big Smoke being overly friendly to CJ is any other sign of his betrayal. I’ve seen plenty of stories where a character was overly friendly and nice and it turned out they were the villian

@@arthurmorgan8529I think it was because they lost to many guys and Smoke failing to realize how dangerous and capable CJ was, also in the mission Reuniting the Families when Smoke and Ryder drove off once the Swat unit came at the Jefferson motel, CJ was fighting through numerous of them and he came back and picked up Sweet and CJ because he was panicking wondering if CJ can help Sweet get out the situation

Ryder was never meant to be betray you in the game, but the voice actor had a falling out with Rockstar, so they changed the game. It's also why there's a lot of dialog after the betrayal happens that mentions Smoke, but doesn't say a word about Ryder

Another detail in "Reuniting the families" is Big Smoke saying that he is "a little bit exposed" in the beginning because he clearly knew that police would arrive soon.

I think it was because ever since the fall of the wall aka that being the Berlin Wall around the Soviet Union collapsed the Russian Mafia had access and stoled guns from the Russian government he was trying to make deals with them into selling the weapons in exchange for money I believe, it’s a reason why they appear in the last mission when CJ has to clear multiple floors to get to Big Smoke

Big Smokes missions are all about his drug dealing buisness (as said in the video none of the missions are in favor for the gang and just in favor for Big Smoke). The Russians tried to do a drug deal and Big Smoke wanted to crash it because its bad for his own buisness. In the first Grove Street part of the story you have several different parts giving you the hints that the drugs harm the gang more than the benefits it brings for the gang. The most obvious story line is the Big Bear story line who is shadow of his past because he became a crack junkie. Another is Sweets attempts to clean his streets and the gang from drugs and reunite the Grove families and so on. This ties into his connections to Tenpenny who corrupts/blackmail gang members for his own agenda. He uses the gang wars and drugs to keep the gangs down and busy with each other while keeping the crime rates high which would result in additonal police authority, funding and so on. Big Smoke in this occasation is a usefull idiot for the cops - as hinted through their presence at Big Smokes home (Tenpenny is also like the final boss you kill after you already killed Big Smoke). They feeding him with resources, informations or whatever to keep his buisness running for this goal. So the possible connection between the Russians and Big Smoke could simply be that Tenpenny gave him the info in order to escalate another gang war between Grove Street and the Russians. (Rockstar likely was inspired by stuff like the CIA running drug networks in black neighborhoods in the 90's, corrupt cops who push for high constant crime rates to fortify their power and the overall topic of the thin line between people controlling the drugs turning into the drugs controlling the people, since Rockstar likes to do this kind of political references in their ingame world)

Ryder originally wasn’t supposed to betray CJ. The voice actor had a falling out with the developers during the making of the game so they decided to kill his character (Ryder)

I just realized that he says "got some money from my aunt" to moving out of Grove Street. BUT... There's a mission where he takes CJ to pick up "his cousin Mary", only that Mary is a drug. Mary doesn't make him the big money tho, Mary is only the daughter. Who is Mary's mother then? Maybe the one that's behind the hood addiction? The one that got Smoke his house, that's closer to his business partners? Honestly, if I was a KZreadr talking about SA, I'd make a video based on this.

Ryder was involved in the assassination as shown in the Introduction.

Just a fun little tidbit unrelated to the Big Smoke/Ryder betrayal; the reuniting the families mission has an interesting effect on the overworld. During that mission, once you arrive at the motel, the overworld becomes a ghost town. There's no npcs on the road nor are there any vehicles on the road besides the ones that are parked around the map. You also cannot build up a wanted level which means that, if you were so inclined, you could go to San Fierro or Las Venturas early and not get the 4* wanted level you'd normally get. This can be used to collect all the other collectibles well before you'd reach those areas or use it to help build up weapon skills since no matter how much you shoot you'll never attain a wanted level. It's benefits are miniscule but it's interesting nonetheless.

Forever a timeless masterpiece. This game has to be literally top 5 games of all time

Everyone mistakes Big Smokes order for him ordering a lot, no, he orders for the entire car, hence why he orders what everyone asks and why he asks what everyone wants prior. I don't understand how so many people mistake it for him only ordering for himself

Ryder could NOT be selling his homies because R* never actually planned to make from him a villain, maybe he could die early in game if not Voice Actor leaving from studio but he was most probably not suppose to be our enemy, probably all those lines with sub context with betraying CJ were suppose to be leading to something else, like he knew about Big Smoke being with Ballas but he got paid or he knew about it but Big Smoke warned him about killing his best friends so he was quiet whole time.

Were I Smoke, I would have shot with purposefully bad aim to not give away that I was a traitor... not giving a damn was indeed highly sus

I've heard that Ryder's voice actor had some trouble during the development of Gta sa and that's why he had to quit voice acting the character. That's why his betrayal wasn't planned from the start, but more of an improvisation.

Ok, but you could also google it and see that the only actual evidence indicates it was just a combo of lazy writing and MC Eiht releasing 3 albums during the production of GTA San Andreas

There is one more reference regarding his hat. In western movies usually the character who wears the black hat is usually the villain. This is a reccuring theme as we all know in RDR2 Micah is the villain but there they switched the hats as arthur was wearing the black one. It could've been considered too obvious as for why they switched the hats.

He's also ordering for the car, so he says Ryder, Cj, and sweets order as well. So, out of all, he orders only 3 of the items, and the large soda are for him

In the Mission called "House party" all the Grove street families are there except big smoke and suddenly Ballas attack their home turf

Since the definitive edition was so terrible that fans had to fix it for Rockstar I really hope they don't even bother

ryder never betrayed CJ and sweet its just something rockstar added last minute theres no way he did

I knew he was a baddie even in my first play through. Smoke was always disingenuous and two faced.

Okay two things dont make sense here. Smoke wasnt hiding in the house to kill Sweet. Why would he try to do that with a baseball bat, and why even do it at the house at all, when he was apparently involved in the drive by at the funeral. Also, if he was planning to kill anybody at that house, he may as well have killed CJ with the bat right there, if he was planning on getting rid of him anyway. So there might be another reason for Smoke loitering around the house, maybe he tried to get rid off evidence for his involvement. Second thing is the Cluckin Bell drive by. I dont think Smoke knew about it or tried to lure the gang into this. Why the hell would he plan a drive by on a car he's sitting in himself. It also looks like a random encounter in the sequence. He does refuse shooting though to spare his secret friends.

I guess after so much time, we're going to accept the fact that the Ryder storyline was scrapped. If they were going to shun him, maybe the best solution would have been to kill him off under the intersection, and not make such a terrible villain arc

that was mostly a gameplay mechanic explaination I don't think it goes that deep.

I feel like the first point wasn't a sign. If he was there to assassinate Sweet, he would have used a gun instead of a bat.
