    The sensuality of this piece worked perfectly with the storyline of The Piano. What a journey its characters experienced and endured. Like waves, rising, falling. Strong and determined, flailing, flawed, then rising! We are moved by each note. And how many of us have stories, to which this passionate masterpiece would serve as an ideal soundtrack?

  • @sender1496

    @sender1496

    7 жыл бұрын

    Well, first of all, I've been playing the CLASSICAL piano my whole life, so I'm sort of biased in that sense. Though I understand why this music appeals to people, I've listened to enough arrangements to, in my opinion, have a say in this. Jae T said BY FAR and THE MOST, which are strong words to use... Though this piece isn't utter garbage, not a lot of people would agree that it's the, BY FAR, most moving arrangement of music composed. The harmonics are rather predictable and simple, which leaves you somewhat under-stimulated. I've definitely listened to a lot more exciting music, that has had a much stronger effect emotionally. The rhythm is interesting sometimes, but it's not something outstanding, and has in many cases been topped by older music. And no, I'm not one of those guys who says "new music is shit", because I know how stupid that is (and not true). But you have to realize that the old music is over a time span of hundreds of years. During that time, there have been plenty of bad and good pieces being composed, and the ones that remain played are the masterpieces filtered out over a long time. Nyman isn't a genius in that sense, and most of composers aren't. Therefore, it's really kind of ignorant to claim that this is BY FAR the most moving piece composed. If he had said that it's a moving piece that moved him, sure, but what he said is much more than that. Also, I know how to play this, and I've analyzed it and everything. It's just that it's not an amazing piece. Maybe you feel all these emotions because you've watched the film and you recognize the song, but the music on its own is not that strong, to be frank.

  • @sender1496

    @sender1496

    7 жыл бұрын

    +nana chan The answer to that will of course depend on who you ask, and there's nothing saying that the pieces I like are the best of the best. But I'll give you some examples of what I mean, nonetheless. Of course, Chopin's works are amazing as usual and very emotional, but since they're played so much, you may get tired of that (but that doesn't make them less great). A generally known emotional piece is his first ballade, but for me, the middle part of his fourth Scherzo is a great example of how moving his music can be. Then of course, there are his famous nocturnes (I really like Op 62 no. 2, but all are great). Aside from that, I think that Rachmaninoff's second piano concerto is extremely well-written and emotional. Then there is Schumann's A-minor piano concerto (especially the third movement), and a lot of pieces from Beethoven (OH the 30th sonata is incredibly emotional imo, if you listen to the whole thing). Tchaikovsky has a lot of beautiful compositions as well, and a known one is the last part of his 6th symphony. There is of course also more modern music (and older as well, for that matter) that are great, but I'm not as much of an expert on that. Those are some just from the top of my head. Really though, the reason I like those are because they're touching to me, and they haven't all always been (some have taken a bit of time for me to like, but once I do, the effect is so much stronger than with other pieces). Since I'm really used to classical music, they may sound different to you if you're not. In that case, you're probably more likely to connect with Chopin's nocturnes. Also, the reason that nearly all are romantic composers is because I assumed that it should be emotional, and romantic composers truly are. Note that we're used to music that we hear. If you're used to hearing modern music, you will probably enjoy it more than something you're not used to. Even though it may seem that people who listen to classical music are boring and just listen in an intellectual way, it's FAR from the truth :) The people who do have gotten used to that music just like most people have gotten used to modern music, and feel the exact same enjoyment. Trust me, because I've really liked both! Sorry for the wall of text, haha.

I'd love having this played when people may come to remember something they liked re myself, when I am gone. My sister introduced me to this piece a year and a half before my parents divorced. It still gives my the most wonderful chills that just seem to course through me. I am a writer and when I first started listening to it I imagined the characters in scenarios I hadn't even thought of yet, helping me to add more detail to the plot. After my parents divorced I forgot the name, the melody, but the memories were still there, I just found it again ten minutes ago, and I keep imagining the characters in my book, looking back at their past and how much they've grown during the the time I couldn't remember this piece. Earlier today, I came across another piece I my sister introduced to me at the same time, I didn't listen to it as much, but immediately it hit me, and all my memories flooded back. I started crying, still trying to remember the name, and then I found it. After almost three years, I found it, I keep seeing all my characters, and all my gf and friend's characters that we added into the story, standing on a high, grassy cliff, overlooking the ocean at sunset, remembering who they were, who they are now, who they loved and lost, who betrayed them, everything in their lives that led up to this moment, a long awaited, bittersweet ending. Our characters lives, and our own real lives, connected in our imagination. If I could thank the composer himself I would. This peice holds a place in my heart that is both heartbreaking and empowering, just like the ending of me and my friend's story, just like some of our past.

    You would have to see the movie. When her husband rowed the piano out to sea and decided to toss it overboard, she hooked her foot around the rope and the piano was tossed over and it pulled her into the water fast and you could see her face disappearing under the water. The Piano was everything to her...she was deaf. her only way of communicating.
