The Haunting of the Andrew Jackson Hotel: A "True" New Orleans Ghost Story

Ойын-сауық

Spooky season is upon us, and leading up to Halloween, I'll be sharing with you "true" New Orleans folktales and ghost stories popular among our city's ghost tour guides. The Andrew Jackson Hotel is regarded as the most haunted hotel in town, and is especially creepy because it's supposedly haunted by the spirits of orphan children.

I stayed there in July 2018. I was in room 211, which is in the carriage house and up a flight of stairs and easily the weirdest hotel room I've ever stayed in. It was clean and nicely furnished but claustrophobically tiny. It was like sleeping in an extremely fancy closet. I didn't experience any paranormal activity but a maid told me she once saw footprints on the ceiling

Spent two nights in that hotel. The first night a guy recorded a hiss........a very clear recording. In Room 10, I believe, in the building out back (where my wife spent the 2 nights) there is a spirit who would actually speak to us almost every time we walked into the room. Usually sat in a chair close to the door. He also watched 'Game of Thrones' on my wife's phone as she was binge watching while I was in other rooms during the investigation. I can't remember our tour guild's name but she had a colorful Mohawk and a pretty face. This was summer of 2016 BTW. The Andrew Jackson is very haunted and well worth a visit.........if you dare.

I know someone who has worked in several different hotels in the French Quarter. He said the Andrew Jackson is one of the top haunted locations. He would hear the kids giggling behind doors all the time. They would also tug on his suit jacket as he walked down hallways. Many guests have had their blankets pulled off of them as they lay in bed.

I am such a pedant that I must point out that since 1955 or so, all film, for movies and cameras was switched to safety stock. Unlike the nitrate-based celluloid that had been in common use, and which was both highly flammable, but also prone to disintegration over time, safety film is non-flammable. It'll melt, but it won't burn or explode, as the nitrate film Tarantino was referencing in INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS would. The same stuff was ground up and used to take very early "flash" photography.

Not a fan of marshal law, Andrew Jackson, or Jean Lafitte (whose crew he served with--and who illegally imported slaves).
