Neil Brand's short series of M.R. James adaptations was immediately followed by this one-hour drama about James himself, starring Mark Gatiss. Brand's typically shrewd approach places James into a series of events that reflect the content of his stories without ever trying too hard to pastiche them.

There's a relatively recent adaptation of 'The Signalman' (from a company called Bafflegab) that had the brilliant idea of having the stranger who meets the signalman be the director of a Railway Safety Information Film - worth a listen, though I'm afraid it won't be appearing on this channel as it's still commercially available.
