Mysterious Magpie is a collection of radio programmes on a dark and atmospheric theme. There are lots and lots of ghost stories, but also tales of murder and mystery and horror, dark psychological thrillers and ominous costume dramas...
Definitely a PERFECT example of not knowing the WHOLE NARRATIVE does NOT equate to JUST ACTIONS! In fact more harm can be done out of false righteousness. It’s a definite moral tale & a reason to FIND THE MIDDLE WAY for SELF rather than working up for or against sides! Great stories were the Twilight Zone!

Really enjoyed this production, although I wish it could have been longer. I gave up on the Bill Nighy version after ten minutes because I found his performance so grating. Many thanks.

Thank you for this very well done dramatization of the classic story! Try to see the 1973 movie version starring the late, great Donald Sutherland and Julie Christie. Really unnerving and worth the watch!

Oh no, I love the film - as you say, incredibly unnerving. There's an earlier BBC radio adaptation on this channel too, from about twenty years back, also well done.

Not heard of "Someone in the Lift". What a shame the TV version is lost.
@mysteriousmagpie3 күн бұрын
Yes, it was shown as part of 'Late Night Line Up' - but rather intriguingly they *have* recently re-discovered a reading of The SIgnalman recorded for Late Night Line Up in the 1960s, performed by Emlyn Williams. I had no idea that existed either, but given that Williams's 1950s reading of the story for TV is lost, it's a wonderful compensation...

It's very unsettling... and quite influential, with its idea of a hugely dangerous, powerful child. In particular the film 'Looper' seems to borrow heavily from it...
