Listening again, two years after the first time, engrossed in the voice of David Warner as he reads Shirley Jackson to us. I intentionally will give nothing away for those who are listening their first time to this mysterious, creepy story. Just. keep listening.

It's a good show in and of itself, and a good story about buried family trauma, but its completely dissimilarity to my beloved Shirley Jackson made me angry with it at first. Why bother with using the title and a few random quotes when you've written a whole new narrative with different emotional concerns? I would have enjoyed it greatly if they had just left the 'Hill House' and 'Eleanor' and so on out of the script.

@@steerpike66 I stumbled upon your aweamazing channel because I love old British Victorian (or at least before the 1960s) as I am obsessed by the paranormal since I had a NDE, & then I realised that my childhood dreams, about living in London, England, were actually memories and since I had already moved here on my own at 16- while here, I had a past life regression and It was confirmed by a channeling of my higher self which I was so surprised afterwards while listening back to it.... yes I had lived here in London in the 1920s, it explains so much! I doubt that this will be believed but this is my truth! Blessings all, thank you for this wonderful channel! 🌹🕊🤍🕊🌹

@@coralbodelson7675 My inspiration led me here or my intuition and I’m so glad it did but I never even knew about the Netflix thing- I just looked at a trailer of it and I wish I hadn’t! I shall try to wipe it from my memory because I had already imagined the characters and they house exactly the way that it should be (in my mind) each of us has a unique perspective! In fact there is no reality, other than that which is perceptual!

Someone said to me to look at the Netflix show as an alternate reality of the book. One of the many stories of the souls trapped in the house

Eleanor is one of those fictional characters who thinks the nervous, half-ashamed, hopeful, furious thoughts that most people are afraid to admit they think. She is a superbly real internalized character.
