What is the explanation for the haunted mansion if they remove any reference to death? It will have to be the Spooky Mansion or the Abandoned Mansion. But haunting implies tragedy, loss, betrayal, anger, and despair.

Someone might be offended. Can't have that. I'm shocked they still have the "Mayor getting waterboarded" scene in Pirates. Torture is surely as whimsical as taking ones own life.

The Mansion does definitely not need screens for the hitchhiking ghosts. That's crazy.

As a little kid when I first went on it, the hanging ghost host didn’t faze me, frankly I didn’t even know what it was. I just thought it was a ghost flying around and then flying down to the floor to scare everyone.

The main problem/issue with the hanging body, is that it isn't just a reference to suicide.. the joke is technically ENCOURAGING suicide, and if there is someone who is struggling or unwell.. they might be pushed to hurt themselves when they hear the Ghost Host litterally tell them to go hang themselves.. So as much as I would be sad for the change.. I understand it and think it would be for the best for Disney to make the more responsible choice. (This is different than the pirates chasing women change in Pirates)

as somebody who has had personal mental health experiences and has struggled with s**cidal thoughts and actions to the point where I have been hospitalized, hanging scene in the attic has absolutely never once bothered me. When I was really, really young, I just had no idea what it was and I just thought it was a scary ceiling. I couldn’t even make out a person. when I got older, I wasnt uncomfortable or triggered by it, but rather just saw it as another dark part of the mansion lol. like, yeah that’s a dark and unnerving concept and it makes sense in the mansion. and most of all, I can’t speak for all people, of course, but even after my hospitalizations, I never had any sort of resurgence of traumatic memories or anything like that. Again, I’m only speaking part for my own self, but I really don’t think the hanging scene is that bad, particularly because I think kids in the majority don’t know what is happening there and just fill in the gaps with their brain as we could used to do. It’s a darker ride and I think it fits perfectly.

Literally, like I had seen hundreds of videos of the haunted mansion on KZread and when I went to ride it for the first time a few years ago I couldn't even make out there was a body hanging up there even though I knew what to look for 😭 it's very hard to see, and like many other commenters have said, children aren't even gonna notice it

Apparently the real reason it's going away is this. No one noticed it and there's no reason for it to be there if no one is noticing and having a reaction. I do love HM and I'm in the same boat as you. I wasn't bothered by it and I knew it was there. In fact, I looked for it because dark humor is a nice coping mechanism for me. I don't find other people's troubles to bother me and take me back to where I used to be. That's just not how my brain is wired. It's somebody else. A fictional somebody else. Their problems are not my problems and I don't know where their headspace is. I'm too fixated on my own mental health to go there. It's not going to trigger me. Certain, very specific, even oddly specific things trigger me. That won't do it. But nobody notices it. So that prop will deteriorate and eventually decay. There's no reason to leave it up if nobody notices. It won't be worth the upkeep if no one notices and gets the proper scare from it. It's a cheap scare, sure, but... if nobody's scared, take it down. You save money.

I really hope they (as Offhand Disney said) desecrate one of my fave rides by removing or altering this scene. I had issues and still struggle but this scene has never made me think about my s**cidal thoughts.

The classic “of course, there’s always MY way” line will make absolutely no sense or not be nearly as effective if the hanging body is removed. It’s super clever dialogue and nothing could match how perfectly chilling it is.

The bats are stupid. What would be better is the ghost host appearing looking like he’s threatening the guests. The bats add nothing and make the line “there’s always my way out” make no sense and possibly have to be cut which is a shame.

It’s a very important part of the scene for me, it’s a viable threat, and also it adds to the horror immensely

If they change the ghost host hanging to bats, they'll need to change the spiel. "Which offered you this chilling challenge. To find a way out! Of course there's always my way." And we see BATS! Is the GH now DRACULA!

When the thumbnail said that there’s a chance there’d be “No Host,” I legit thought they were gonna take out Paul Frees’ voice, which got me irrationally upset, and I don’t really ride the Haunted Mansion all that much.

The bride does need an update. The elevator…um, Stretching room, should not be tampered with. The hanging man effect is so brief, that, by the time you notice it, the doors are opening. Disney should not spend its resources on a 3 second effect. The Mansion does not need bats! As far as the Hitchhikers, leave them alone!!

I just want them to realize it’s ok to have a bit of an edge. I’m not saying full on Alien Encounter-edge (although I welcome that😂). Everything doesn’t need to be sanitized.

@8opus244 Honestly I don’t think that’s true despite what the video claims. I mean Matterhorn has a terrifying abominable snowman and a pile of wrecked bobsleds, Indiana Jones has a skeleton army and a giant snake lunge at you, Pirates has a ghost ship…The issue isn’t the scare factor, it’s the sensitive subject matter of su**ide. Not that I necessarily agree with taking it out.

I have an idea for a Constance Hatchaway bride update: Make the animatronic start out as a bride with a beating red heart, though when she makes the threatening "vows" and reveals her hatchet, she morphs into a very decomposed version of herself with a visibly beating heart, meant as a throwback to the attic "corpse bride" from when the Mansion first opened in 1969. All this being done through a more advanced form of the effects used on the Hatbox Ghost animatronic. This is just my personal idea, as I said.

oh my goodness yes!!!!! there was a piece of concept art by marc davis i think that kind of showed this effect where the normal bride morphed into a rotting corpse. this would be such a perfect way to pay respect to marc davis, keep constance, and pay respect to the original beating heart brides.

Constance is an axe-murdering pyscho. She has NO heart worth beating. Not just because she's dead, but because her end goal is selfish motivation (the pursuit of wealth after beheading her husbands). The reason the Beating Heart Bride worked was because her character was supposed to be forlorn & tragic, centered around the story of a love lost (since the Beating Heart Bride either killed herself out of heartbreak or was murdered herself by either a jealous Madame Leota who fancied the master of the house whom Beating Heart was going to marry or she was killed by her husband to be when he stumbled upon ol' Hatbox trying to get his wife to try on a new hat in preparation for the nuptials & thinking that she was being unfaithful to him, killed her out of misplaced rage, only to feel immediate regret & hang himself after the fact, thus becoming The Ghost Host [part of the whole "Is Master Gracey The Ghost Host" confusion]), to the point that you felt pity for her. Constance, on the other hand, got exactly what she deserved when her latest husband proved to be her last husband before she herself died.

The magic comes from practical effects. How bad would it be if the track was just lined with screens like in Web Slingers, can you imagine the horror?

The only good idea here is replacing the bride. Everything else should be trashed.

Really hoping they don’t remove the hanging scene in the stretching room! Such an iconic scene, and it just perfectly fits the story.

I know you're not a fan of the placement of the Hatbox Ghost in DW's Haunted Mansion, but I have a fun story about it. Me and my 12 year old nephew, his first visit to DW, were in a buggy when the ride stopped right in front of the Hatbox Ghost. We were only stopped for a few minutes but it was enough time for me to tell him the history of him which I learned from you. So thanks for adding a little extra magic to our vacation.

i hope they go ham on with an animatronic constance. make her scary but keep her character. she's deserved this for nearly 20 years now lol

As someone whose brother got out the way the ghost host did, they shouldn’t change the stretching room scene. Honestly, the first time I went and wasn’t expecting it, I just looked away, and the second time I went and knew the scare, I fully enjoyed it. It’s a bit, a gag; and it’s a HAUNTED mansion at the end of the day. I also feel like I’ve heard of people making noise about all kinds of accessibility, representation, and sensitivity content at Disney but never about HM - obviously a sample size of one here, but if that’s the root of the change I’m surprised.

As someone who actually tried, I agree. And I've never ridden the mansion because the stretching room made me cry as kid. If people like me don't mind, why would other guests who never even thought about this mind?

NGL her face projection is lame and corny. The original bride used to scare the hell out of me when I was a kid. I haven't been too thrilled with many of the changes Disney has been making lately, but all I need to say is PAUL FREES VOICE STAYS FOREVER!

I’m excited for the rumors of a new bride or attic show scene, but the losses of the hanging man and the animatronic ghosts is too much… I’ve lost too much… the peoplemover…. Either way, I’m nervous And excited… but mostly nervous 😅

Bats? The hanged man is the perfect intro to the attraction because he has the comic relief at the end (the silly screaming and his bones crashing). IT'S SPOOKY AND SILLY. How do you do that with bats?

Practical effects is always better. They'd have to change the words at the beginning if they're taking out the hanging ghost host. I hope it's just the bride that's changing.

I didn’t even think of that, that would mean removing Paul Frees. Iirc he was originally the voice of the Auctioneer in Pirates before they replaced the lines with the addition of Redd so HM is I think the last ride with his voice. Removing that means removing Paul completely

@@TristanHathaway well as somebody who saw the film in the theater, and liked the film enough to buy it on Blu Ray, I think two things that hurt the film was not picking a director known for making horror content. If a director like Guillermo Del Toro had been involved, there would have been more anticipation for the film. I also think Disney didn't promote it well.

@@TristanHathaway As a former ghost tour guide in New Orleans, I can tell you this: whoever wrote that script definitely knew a tour guide here, and hitting "the wall" with tourists is so accurate 🤣 The film captures the spirit of the city well. (Pun intended.)

I agree that although keeping with Walt's philosophy of changes to the parks are inevitable, change for the better should always be measured against change for the sake of change. If it isn't broken, leave it alone!

Walt is dead and that philosophy died with him. When I take over Disney, the parks will never change or the only changes will be going backwards under the philosophy of "Make Disney Great Again."

Taking out the hanging man will be one of the dumbest decisions Disney has ever made. You would think they would have learned by now not to mess with perfection.

I absolutely love the hanging man scene. I'll be the first to admit that the hanging figure in the stretching room has always stood out to me as an anomaly in the ride, as it's quite darker than the rest of the ride's atmosphere. Where as all other deaths were implied, this one was right in your face. That being said...anything else they put there will not go in hand with what the Ghost Host is saying. And it would be pure desecration to change the Ghost Host narration in ANY way. I do miss the animatronic hitchhiking ghosts in WDW tremendously. I think the intention was to make the trio seem more "lifelike", but the herky-jerky aspect of the animatronics actually works for them as they are not alive. They should change them to the NEW style of animatronics and get the best of both. And the Constance Hatchaway projection looks like Martin Short in a wig. I said what I said.

The thing is, when Constance replaced Beating Heart, the attic scene, much like the Stretching Room dialog regarding the Ghost Host's suicide in the rafters, was in-your-face about the Black Widow Bride beheading her various husbands with her hatchet & butchering classic bridal quotes to apply them to the schizoid ax-murderess.

I imagine they would change the narration if they need to. It's a small edit to take that out compared to the effort of changing the hanging man.

I literally just saw this today on reddit and was wondering when a video would be out. Really hoping they don't actually remove the Ghost Host. I understand there are sensitivity issues, but with all the other death and creepiness in the Mansion, where do we draw the line? Some people have lost family to drink- does that mean we remove the drunk pirates buying rum in Pirates of the Caribbean? I feel like it's something very few people asked for and Disney is just overreacting. The bride change is a good thing, I'd think. I've only been to WDW and she just looks awful for the most part. The axe fading in and out is cool, but her face just seems... off. And I can't comment on the Hitchhiking Ghosts. As I've only seen the screen version, I admit they look a bit too cartoony, though I enjoy the effects of your head exploding and all that.

The mansion has been in dire need of a new bride, so glad to hear it’ll be a proper animatronics

Even though l don’t like them very much, the protection hitchhiking ghosts being added is tolerable, if barely, but the hanging man being removed is non-negotiable, it would be a huge detriment to the legacy of the mansion, but that’s just me, idk

I mean, as someone who DID try taking The Host's way out, the hanging body doesn't bother me at all. And not in some morbid "me too, buddy" way, it's just never really upset or bothered me, even post-hospitalization. All it does is give me the same chills down my spine as any of the other effects, all in good fun (: I hope they don't change it!

Removing the body in the attic is a terrible idea. What the hell would "my way" mean with a bunch of bats? Like a bunch of other people have already said, I don't think most kids even understand what the body is implying. I certainly don't think I did as a child, and I was frightened of anything suggesting the concept of death. Please dont change it Disney 🥺🥺🥺🥺

Maybe they could make it more like Phantom Manor, where it's clear someone killed him or add a sound & visual effect (even just the bats) to make it seem like an accident (he fell) ?

The hanging body and the ghost host set the tone for what you are about to see in the Haunted Mansion. Its foreboding and creepy and if you get a spirited crowd can be a really scary and fun experience. To take that aspect out of the mansion really removes an essential mysterious aspect of what you are about to see, especially for a first time rider.

It would be SO cool if we could get a new animatronic for the bride!! Something to match the hatbox ghost’s quality would really add

New constance or new bride in general would be swell! I never really liked the current animatronic. But PLEASE dont touch the stretching room or the hitchhiking ghosts it would be a disservice to the legacy of the mansion. Also please guys let's take the magical kingdom hatbox up to the attic I'm losing my sanity everytime i see him there in the infinite hallway

Yeah, maybe if they have a skeleton or even his ghost up there it would still have the same message (of his way out being death) without the imagery of the hanging. I still prefer the hanging but I think having a skeleton in spiderwebs is a great compromise

Phantom Manor has been hit by weird unnecessary changes as well. The original narration or ghost host has been replaced by two other ghosts; One that speaks English played by Vincent Price, and the other who speaks French and is not exactly terrifying. And the whole story is basically more confusing. Now the Bride is an axe murdering maniac. And the tone is overall more dark humour oriented, instead of the gothic tragedy it was originally. It's a shame. It's a ride that never required such changes.

When I was a kid it terrified me BUT - fear + survival = fun. It sets the stakes high so you're properly calibrated for what you're about to experience.

I’m still skeptic that it’s only a rumor. I will believe it till it’s concrete info by Disney. Even so the change feels unnecessary. HM is like walking into a Halloween store, the imagery of death is apart of it. 😅

I have no hope for the future.

I am con no-hanging man. Bats would t be spooky to me. The way it is now is truly unnerving. I can understand why they might consider changing it. The way it is now fits my taste. Constance would be fine. The projected faces are awful!

the bats could be amazing but I do like the scare of the dead guy hanging, I think the man hanging is the most macabre thing and it hurry's you to get onto the ride, just like if you saw a ghost in a real house.

I don’t *hate* the FL hitchhiking ghosts, but I do like the practical effect more. I’m okay with the bats, as long as the dialog doesn’t change, and it’s done right. And I’m in Camp Pretty Please New Constance. I really like the Constance story. I’d like to see that stay. (I want to know more, about George. What about his Brother?!?) But BOY is that animatronic projection monstrosity silly! To go from that to Hattie in the next breath makes it look worse.

i’d definitely be sad to see the hanging body go-it’s such a great scare and sets the tone really well for the ride. however, i also completely understand the thought process behind removing it. i can’t imagine how weird it would feel to experience that having lost someone to suicide, or surviving an attempt yourself. the bats could be cool, but don’t sound very scary. i would love if they did something similar to phantom manor and maybe had the ghost host himself do some sort of jumpscare, like threatening the audience or something.

Practical effects and animatronics are almost always better

If they are changing up Constance Hatchaway, I’d say it’d be about time. She’s noticing but just a static mannequin with projection effects. The original bride was scary and also sad. And also, she fit in with Hatbox’s original effect. His head was supposed to appear and disappear in time with the beating heart. Maybe if they added some sobbing noises to the sound track? Redid the original story of the bride?

We know it's all still a rumor, but if they remove the hanging gag at the beginning then I think it's proof nothing will be sacred in Disney parks anymore. It's how the story of the mansion begins and the fact that they feel the need to protect people who are sensitive to death... on a ride about literal death will show me that maybe Disney just isn't for me anymore since they lack basic logic. This would be a hard no for me. Bats or no. I also don't think this being a touchy subject would change anyone's mind on riding the ride or not. Like, if you've had someone in your life who's committed suicide (awful) you're not going to suddenly want to ride a ride about Death at all just because one aspect was changed. That's not how people work. I have a friend who suffered abuse by their parents who would drink a lot. He decided no to play a certain video game because it has aspects of that in there. They were a bit upset, but did it make them so upset that they avoided video games all together? Of course not. They simply chose to not engage with that game.

WHY WHY WHY does Disney have to ruin the rides with these unnecessary changes?? Why do they have to pander to the small minority of Karens who pretend to be offended?

They better not remove the hanging man. That room is supposed to be uncomfortable. It’s supposed to be all about death. Is it a little dark? Yes but we all come to love it. As a kid I was not bothered at all. I didn’t even understand what was going on

I am more against the removal of the hanging man, than the other two possible changes. It literally sets the tone for the entire ride.

Im against every thing on here except for the bride. I love the figures of the Hitchhiking Ghosts and the hanging skeleton is perfect. I used to be terrified of the skeleton but now i love it. If someone is upset by the hanging skeleton, then don't go on the ride. Its as simple as that.

The reason WHY they are removing the hanging host is pitiful. Trying to make everyone happy makes no on happy, trying to satisfy everyone satisfies no one. I hope they can grow enough courage to fire these ridiculous park offensive content officers before they're ruined everything.

They need to bring back the chair jumper ghosts to the attic and the paintings in the Magic Kingdom mansion where the eyes follow you back where they originally were and not the loading area.

No more hanging corpse in the beginning due to suicidal references. Axe murdering bride that killed off all of her husbands though? A-ok! Right. Lol

I say if Walt’s Imagineers we’re ok with it, leave it! The 50’s-60’s didn’t care, leave it!

Fake corpses in a haunted house is bad, but a bride who deleted several husbands with an axe is ok?

Removing the hanging man reveal will completely ruin the vibe of the start of the ride. Just because we see and understand the supposed reasoning behind a change like that, doesn’t mean it’s worthwhile. It’s lame and sterilizing.

As someone who is personally affected by the frequent use of suicide as a horror trope, I think a possible positive change could be adding a figure like the phantom from Phantom Manor, that way we still get the swinging corpse, (which is a really cool horror element to have) but having a different character responsible for the death would make it less emotionally loaded for a lot of people. The lore would probably have to shift to make this new phantom-type character the ghost host so that it is still "his way out", because that line is too good to lose.

The Phantom only works for Phantom Manor because it's Henry Ravenswood tormenting his daughter Melanie from the afterlife until she herself dies, after her father as The Phantom murdered all her potential suitors.

The ghost host effect being replaced would suck but, I’d be fine with it getting updated with a different practical effect if Disney keeps the projection shi* on a high shelf from the imagineers and come up with something better just as cool . They would have to match it with the speech! The host says “Of course, there’s always my way.” And then we’d get attacked by..bats?

People need to get a grasp on reality. It costs roughly 14 billion to run the parks, probably more by now. Physical actually costs 10 times what screens cost and require infinitely more maintenance. Having actual moving hitchhiking ghosts at the end like Magic Kingdom is worlds better than having an old janky animatronic doing nothing pop up for 10 seconds.

You know in your heart if they change to bats they’ll be lame as hell projections.

They should definitely keep the hanging ghost - bats, even done well, don't make any sense. The whole point of the scene would be lost if the hanged skeleton is removed. Also, I'd add it's pretty ridiculous to remove the figure when you consider the whole ride is about death ( and in several cases, characters who have been murdered).

I can completely understand why they might want to get rid of the hanging Ghost Host, but I also hope they don't do it.

In my opinion, the Walt Disney World hitchhiking ghosts are more interesting because they are more animated, actually doing something whereas the Disneyland hitchhiking ghosts just sit in your doom buggy.

The bride update would be AMAZING to have an animatronic again, maybe sell the floating effect and beating heart and we’ll be happy. Getting rid of the hanging man would be a HUGE mistake it LITERALLY is supposed to spook you like “The only way out is to die”. Getting rid if that just ruins the entire opening of the ride and story introduction. Also resectively as a Cali native WE DONT WANT THE PROJECTION HITCHHIKING GHOSTS 😭 They’re so lame

That said, if I had to choose between Priscilla Gore (the name of the ghost bride when Ken Anderson came up with the Blackbeard-inspired Captain Gore story for the attraction that was later cast aside for other attempts at a concrete narrative before arriving on the retirement home for 999 ghosts around the world) / Emily De Claire-Gracey (the Beating Heart Bride's name in The Haunted Mansion Comic Book) / Sally Little (another name for the Beating Heart Bride during story concept changes) / Elizabeth Henshaw (the poisoned bride of the 2003 farce film starring Eddie Murphy) / Bernadette (the name of the Beating Heart Bride in the Lonesome Manor level of the Epic Mickey video games for alliterative purposes) AND hatchet-brandishing husband-killer Constance Hatchaway, I'd choose any iteration of the Beating Heart Bride every time, because her story of tragic love (hence, her thudding glowing heart continuing to beat long after she died) fits better to me than some generic ax murderess psycho, who doesn't have a heart worth beating, because Connie's goal was always selfishly motivated (the pursuit of wealth after murdering her various affluent husbands).

They are two separate brides, since Constance is a selfishly motivated ax murderess who beheads her husbands, whereas Beating Heart, in any incarnation, is usually a victim of tragic love lost and you feel sorry for/pity her. Plus, even Disney itself, whenever the attic bride is shown in merchandise, fails to accurately separate The Black Widow Bride (Constance Hatchaway-Hightower) from her tragically forlorn Beating Heart predecessors, even though they earnestly should.

I hope Disney doesn't get rid of the hanging Ghost Host. He's has been hanging around for over 50 years, it's a little late to worry about if it bothers anyone now, especially since no one has really complained about it. However, I wouldn't mind seeing the bats returned to the attic scene.

Change isn't bad... but change making the result worse is bad. This keeps coming up in my fandoms at the moment! Workshop new ideas, experiment, be open to change! yes! but! if the workshopped material isn't better than what's existing, DON'T CHANGE IT!

The ride is about death. If that makes you uncomfortable, don’t go on it. Why cater to the few to upset the many?

Normally I would disagree, but for a “haunted house” you are right. As long as it isn’t graphic enough (detailed wounds or violence) to traumatize the kiddos of course lol

Totally not bothered by the hanging man. Never have been, I get that its become a sensitive subject nowadays but I've never personally come across anyone that complained about it. It adds to the story so even if they remove it they would have to still come up with an equally creepy scary story. Its honestly one of the best parts of the ride.

I understand why they’d want to remove the ghost host. However, I’m not very excited about it. Bats don’t even feel like a creative replacement. Put a trigger warning sign or something before you go into the ride if you must, but it’s a haunted house. It’s a five second moment in a haunted house that takes place alongside other grim things like a serial killer bride. I’m not sure I agree with the logic that the ghost host is too dark, but Constance isn’t. Just brainstorming, but maybe even putting him in a hanging cage, the way some pirates were, could be a potential solution? Since there’s some nautical themes and storylines involved in haunted mansion lore. I think that could be a compromise that maintains a more unsettling atmosphere than just… bats. Now, the changing of Constance is exciting. Getting rid of that horrid projection face is an upgrade and it would be exciting for Disneyworld to get that same change.

I remember there used to be a walkway (I think it was called the servants quarters) where people who have sensory issues could bypass the stretching room and head straight to the loading station. they stopped using it because people would exploit it to skip the line, but I feel like they should bring it back for those with sensory issues, as well as those that might find it triggering. maybe they could add the virtual queue for that so people who don't need it cant just get past everything, and those who do can access it again

It is something that's at least worth a discussion. Times and sensibilities change, and our societal understanding of mental health issues and suicide has certainly started to mature. For some people the Ghost Host body is a very real, very troubling thing to see. I'm not personally advocating for a change to the scene, but its also not the worst thing in the world to, as you suggested, provide a tactful warning and a bypass. As they say, everyone you see is dealing with a struggle you know nothing about.

Yes!! I’ve been saying that for years (this is quite an old rumor tbh): there would be no harm in putting a content warning outside of the attraction, they have warnings for a lot of rides so it’s not like it would be anything new; but removing the scene would be kinda… weird?

As a kid I hardly noticed the hanging ghost host. Its sooo brief. And as a tiny kid, I would have crane my head all the way up, so it hurt so I rarely did. Heck I didn't understand the AHHHH BAM! Sound being said body hitting the floor. I just thought goofy like, and it was just the elevator making silly noises. But like, Haunted Mansion, is scary. To get rid of the GH beginning part.. yeah no.

Haunted mansion does not need ANY screens

I used to always joke that I hoped whenever Haunted Mansion went under refurb or the Holiday overlay that someone would "accidentally" break the Constance animatronic. I hate it so much. It always looked bad and when they brought Hat Box in she looked even worse in comparison. I really hope the rumor of a replacement is true!

I'm against his removal. You cant please everyone. Post warning signs & let the guests make the decision whether they will be triggered by the hanging scene and opt out before riding the ride.

A better bride would be great, and I totally understand if they change the rafters scene, but...good grief do not ever do screens in this hallowed hall.

Hanging man should ABSOLUTELY stay in my opinion! If the worry is about it being too scary or inappropriate, kids or adults with sensitivity to that subject can always NOT look up, or daresay avoid the ride called “Haunted Mansion”. I always felt that the scare was never in your face and was more a cool Easter egg or more edgy moment that you could spot, and not at all something negative.

If they get rid of the hanging corpse, they’ll find a new one in its place…ME!!!! I’m kidding, but seriously, I’d be freaking pissed. One more time everybody, say it along with me: I WILL NOT ACCEPT A MANSION I DO NOT DESERVE!!!

I’m not necessarily attached to there being a hanging man in the stretching room, but I am to the Paul Frees narration. If there are no windows and no doors, what would “his way” out be other than death?

The first time I rode Haunted Mansion (in 2021 at WDW) I thought “wow, how bold of Disney to feature suicide in a time where things more tame than this get cancelled all the time.” Now being who I personally am, I looked up ride through videos for every single ride that I thought might send me into a panic attack (like Rockin’ Rollercoaster did) and decided this one was tame enough that I could handle it (both mechanically and thematically), so I think anyone who might be sensitive to, or who has someone in their party that they think might be sensitive to, a scene like that has ample opportunity to do their research and decide for themselves. Even having only ridden it twice in my life, I do think the Ghost Host in the stretching room is a staple.

it's upsetting when changes are made (ESPECIALLY for haunted mansion) that just have no positive affect, or point, to the story. Also I am so tired of theme parks obsessively adding screens. It's like every other type of practical effect or potential new special effects are just thrown out for the replacement of a screen. It just takes you out of the moment. Especially now that we have tablets and smart phones so easily, its just not worth spending your money to be fully immersed in a disney park only for the main trick to be a screen. It just feels like Disney adds them so that they can fit in with other theme parks yet still pride themselves on being a different and superiorly themed park, I'm so tired of it.

I agree. No more screens please. It’s not like they can’t afford more animatronics and elaborate scenes. They still make a killing at theme parks.

I would love a new bride! The stretching room is perfection in my mind, but I understand the concern. I will withhold judgement on bats and stuff until I see it (if it even happens at all). What's almost worse is the fact that we won't know if they changed the stretching room until Christmas is over... which is a long time to wonder about it haha

I’m also concerned about the hitchhiking ghost scene. I’m sad to say but from interviews on Walt Disney worlds mansion they think the effect in Florida looks good! 😭

Honestly the hanging man can totally be changed imo as long as it’s done with some thought and practical effects. For me growing up going to Disney it was actually kinda difficult to see the hanging man effect. If you’re in the center of the room it’s hard to tell what it is and at times it feels like it’s hard to see past the screen. I think the average person would have a hard time figuring out what they are looking at if they didn’t already know it was a hanged man

I think with the bats in the rafters, I think it would work super well with the sound of the fall, noose snapping and maybe a body hitting the side of a wall or such, and then hear that piercing scream which activates the bats. Maybe some how ad ambiance with light and dark and air usage making it feel almost as if the bats bump into you in the dark.

A new bride, great. Changes to the story that was some of the last reminiscences of Walt Disney’s work, really disturbing. I can’t imagine the ride without the hanging man. Maybe with a new effect that is equally as scary? But not removing it and moving on. That’s disgusting if true.

In 2007, Constance Hatchaway aka The Black Widow Bride replaced the original tragically fornlorn Beating Heart Bride who had been there since opening day (albeit changed from her 1969 Corpse Bride form, to her No-Face form of the '80s to early '90s, to her cute mid-'90s to 2006 form) so what are you on about?

I think if one has young kids, they would be in the camp of replacing the hanging man. Any other jump scare would still have the same effect at that place in the attraction.

I have young kids and I do not feel differently of the hanging man. It is supposed to be spooky & replacing all the life “horror” elements with more lighthearted imagery makes The Haunted Mansion a lower standard dark ride within the park. I assure you, in 10 years, the ghosts will go next.

My siblings and I grew up having annual passes to Disneyland and the Haunted Mansion was my favorite ride. None of us realized it was a dead body for years LOL. It really feels like more of a scare for the adults.

If the corpse hanging from a noose is changed to just a bunch of bats flying by, then what about the preceding line "There's always MY way"? What would that be referring to in this case??

the bats don't work practically due to the fact they would have to worry about them bumping into people. also most deaths are brutal and people need to get over themselves. the hanging scene is fine, its suppose to make people on edge and if you take the edge or dark out then the rides ruined. Haunted mansion is suppose to be a dark comedy type of ride. If people want a sunshine and rainbows ride then ride its a small world.

It’s very conflicting, because on one hand I get not wanting to remind people of traumatic events in their personal lives, and on the other, sacrificing great storytelling and scares for the small chance someone in the room could be upset by it… it’s hard to know what’s the best course of action. Maybe if they replace the hanging body with a skeleton in spiderwebs or his ghost staring down at us, that could work? It still has the same message but without the imagery that could upset people.

As much as I'd prefer the hanging Host since it's darker and more shocking, if we can't have it we might as well have something that's still spooky and represents death as the way out of the room.

I hope they're not thinking that the dead hanging man is TOO grime for a haunted house. lol Please ..Don't replace the original concept!
