I love the fact that this is like a nod to "The Thing" from Carpenter and also the "The Thing from another World" from Hawks... the whole "CLOSE THE DOOR" line is clearly from Hawks movie. One of my favorite Tarantino movies of all time!

I thought it was odd that marques doesn’t know who daisy is even though she’s an infamous criminal with a 10k bounty on her head and Marques is a bounty hunter.. but then after a few watches I realized he doesn’t know who she is because John Ruth is pronouncing her last name wrong the entire movie.. Ruth pronounces it as domergue but at the end daisy pronounces it as domingray... thought that was a cool little tidbit lol

The one element of the movie that was strange is that Tim Roth’s character of the Red Rock hangman is false - he’s just claiming to be the hang man but he’s part of Daisy’s gang - but he had his ID papers that he shows to John Ruth earlier which felt either like a plot hole or is never explained.

what I was missing in the movie, having had a different expactation maybe, was someone dying out in the blizzard. they spent considerable time countering the dangers of the blizzard, nailing the door shut everytime, OB and Mannix with trouble setting up safety lines to the toilet and the stables. I was expecting one person to die in the blizzard because the killer cut the safety line or something. that would have tied in nicely with a The Thing omage as well.

This has always been my favorite Tarantino movie. Every time I rewatch his filmography (I've done it 4 times now), I try to see why people put this towards the bottom of their ranking and I just can't. The main criticisms people have are either very subjective or partially true in my opinion. I don't think the movie is too long and I don't think it's boring, which are by far the main criticisms I hear about it. I also think the "we didn't have enough time to figure out who poisoned the coffee" is pushed way farther than it should be. I mean, ever since they arrive at Minnie's Habardashery, you know something is wrong and from then on out you start analyzing every single one of them

No, I think you got the facts regarding the leak script wrong. What happend was that one of the actor`s agent leak the script to other people inside the industry before it was ok to do so.... and that is when Quentin felt betraid and said he would not do the movie. But after that he himself leak the first draft of the screenplay because he was not going to do it anyway. Then he start doing the story as a theater play for one show only experience... but after doing that he change his mind and decided to make it into a film like he entended in the first place.

I watched this movie late one night. Even though it was nearly three hours long, I was easily enraptured by the intensity of the characters and the unpredictability of the plot. At first, I thought that it was going to be an action/shoot-‘em-up style movie. However, I was pleasantly surprised that it was a bit of a mystery movie, with some action, a great narrative, and fantastic characters.

I have a theory and I think this would be kind of cool but I'm not totally sure if it'll work but what if Quentin Tarantino did the best he can to always have eight characters on screen and every shot or at least in every scene if one dies it would go to a flashback or if two or three people get shot they would go to the beginning of the day where you see the store owners and such at least when they get to the cabin. Something to think about haha

Part of the fun with movies like this is to solve the mystery. The mystery being who it is that's in cahoots with Daisy. Unfortunately that's impossible with this cause he literally makes it up as he goes along. Like how the major doesn't like Bob. It turns out there use to be a sign over the bar saying no Mexicans or dogs allowed, but she took it down cause she allowed dogs in, which is the main reason why he shoots Bob. We have no chance of figuring out who is Daisys partner here.

I always thought it was a mistake to include Jennifer's reaction to the guitar busting. It's out of her character. She's on the way to a hanging or a rescue. She wouldn't care about a smashed guitar that much. I also think it's a mistake for Tarantino to force himself into his movies. He's generally the only aspect of any film that takes me out of the movie.

Thanks for your review guys! This is the only Tarantino movie I don't like, I saw it 2,5 times but it just doesn't work for me. I love The Thing, and everything about The Hateful 8 that is similar to The Thing I love. I guess it's all about two points: 1) I hated the scene when Samuel L. J. talked about a forced blow job outside in the snow at minus degrees, because it's physiological nonsense. It just would never work, no matter what. The man was supposed to be naked, dragged through the snow for hours.. You could try to force a man to fly, with the same outcome. It's not possible. 2) The final killing. It wasn't satisfying to me, it was just bloated. In KillBill, Bill was the "ultimate evil", and he was killed pretty quickly. In Django, we saw gallons of fake blood of course, but the enemies didn't die in exaggerated executions. This one felt wrong, misplaced. I really didn't enjoy this movie, although I love long dialogues, love Tarantino's sudden violence style, love all actors.

Great reviews guys. This is one of Tarantino's newest films that I actually enjoyed. I feel the same way that just becausr he has his name stamped on a film doesn't neccessarily mean its good. I enjoyed DJANGO but I felt like it was more of a pop culture film. It didnt keep me interested like this or RESERVOIR DOGS. It just has good film moments. I really enjoyed this review I feel that you two covered a lot of this films strengths and I suggest it to others based on those facts. Its well driven, keeps you invested, the actual hate and dialogue is there for a purpose rather than to just be edgy like some of Tarantino's films, its a most own.

The flashback revealed that Tim Roth's character and his gang had prior knowledge of those on his trail, so why didn't he get the drop on them as soon as their enemies walked through the door. I'm not sure if 'deus ex machina' is the correct term to describe it but it is adjacent.

@@haleohanamalama2967 Oh....I was thinking that maybe you were a patreon of theirs and that you might have insider knowledge of what upcoming movies they were going to review. But I do like the title though. I'll check out The Parasite this weekend!

I think this is Tarantino's best movie since Jackie Brown (and I rate his first three from Reservoir Dogs on as his best). And Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is terrible.

This is the film that finally made me give up on Tarantino. Don't get me wrong; no true film maker owes me what I want from a movie, and Tarantino IS a true film maker. But it got to a point where he just left me cold with every film he's done since Jackie Brown. Kinda bored of his flicks being two and a half hours of build-up to big bloody kill fests including characters who I can't stand. However, the acting is good and Kurt Motherfuckin' Russell in a big modern film is always something to treasure. Nice review guys.

I agree. I feel that every Tarantino film after the 90's has just been an exercise in self-indulgence and him patting himself on the back. His films are surprisingly hollow without anything of note to say or convey.
