I would also take a permanently marker and write on the tape the item or items in the cache. Just a thought if your in a hurry up situation and you need to know what your grabbing.

While this video is obviously for short-term storage, my whole view on caching changed when one of my larp playgrounds was logged. Had I used a tree, it would have been gone. Had I buried one deep enough to not have been uncovered by the machine tracks, I'm not sure I could find it again without landmarks in the wasted landscape, with coords or not. They even moved large boulders, so there is little that is truly permanent. Logging, mining, construction, fires, windstorms, and many more factors to consider when placing one of these long-term.

Oh yeah. You have a great point. As he points out in tactical rifleman, you gotta pick a spot that may be private land that at least has little chance of changing. He even buried one in the middle of a gravel road to prove the point

@@doitriteak Hopefully he explained it was ONLY to prove a point! I have seen enough thermal guncam video of what happens to people digging around in roads during asymmetric conflict lmao. I need to check it out though.

Well considering caches were established and collected during conflicts for hundreds of years, I doubt it is gonna need to change. And those videos were of IED layers. I know because I have participated in interdiction. We looked for obvious signs of bomb laying per rules of engagement. Caches are not bombs and they are pre-established sets of supplies.

@@doitriteak Whoever/ whatever is observing may not know, or care, to find out that some military aged male is just burying a giant bag of skittles and copies of his favorite mangas for later, and not daisychained stolen munitions. If the powers that be are playing for keeps, my view is that one should stay far, far away from all but the absolute least traveled roads and culverts under them, out of an abundance of caution. Seems like a good way to end up on some unit's highlight reel when they dont extend such generous roe to the people who they truly hate.

That is very paranoid thinking. If you understand caches, you would know how to pick a location. If conflict comes to America, that would mean alot of druggies die too. They cache drugs on the side of highways. I've seen it. As long as you're endowed with an ounce of sense, there will be no highlight reel. Plus, the interdiction team would end up on the highlight reel because their tactics are predictable
