The Haken Continuum Keyboard Extension

This is the introduction of my keyboard extension for the Haken Continuum. It is entirely mechanical and has no electronic or electrical components whatsoever. It sits over the fingerpad of the Continuum but does not touch it or interfere with it in any way, except when pressure is applied to a key and a small, precisely placed, drop-shaped “pearl” pushes into the neoprene surface. Since the fingerpad is pressure sensitive on the Z axis, the keyboard is also.
The keyboard extension in the video has a total of 47 keys, but I am now building a full sized, 93 key extension that will cover the entire Continuum fingerpad. I guess I should add that I am in no way connected to the manufacturers of the Continuum. I am strictly a fan of the instrument, looking for creative ways to expand its usefulness and versatility.

The keys were scavenged from old keyboards, and painted fire engine red with spray enamel.

I had a Roli Seaboard Rise but I eventually sold it. There were two main things about it that I didn’t like: the silicone rubber surface produces too much friction and drag when you slide your fingers on it (the Continuum neoprene fingerpad produces much less), and I could clearly hear the quarter tone “zipper effect” from the FSR strip technology used to sense movement. Not everyone hears this or is bothered by it. The gliss produced by the Continuum is totally smoooooth. 😃

I was hearing that about the Seaboard as well...... the continuum is a perfect extention to a player as it is so responsive and feels like a real instrument is being played as opposed to a midi controller...
I don't get it. Why buy a Hakan and then revert back to the old way? All of this could have been done with any poly aftertouch capable keybaord, eventually assisted by a ribbon controller in stead of using the pitchbend wheel. It's just a retrograde step. Why not simply buy a (cheaper) Seaboard when you are too stuck in your ways?
Honestly, that defeats the purpose of the continuum
