    "Silly"?!? Dude, the part about wildfowling had me laughing in tears! Been there, done that! I remember my butt sliding on the mud with each shot, in pouring rain! Dropping shells in the layout blind 'cause my fingers were frozen, and couldn't find them in the 2" of muddy water on the bottom of the blind... And cleaning the gun... getting mud and dead leaves out of the action at the end of the day... Like a buddy of mine says "if you didn't know it was a pleasure, you'd think it's a punishment!" Oh, and my all time favorite: one of the guys getting out of the layout blind to pee during late goose season, and sinking in the snow to his armpits... Three people trying to pull him out, and all four having a hard time getting out of the snow bank... while geese were finally landing in the decoys (and I maintain they only landed there to watch the show and have a laugh at us, taking off just as we were able to reach the blinds and pick up our guns... before we could fire a shot! )

    Next time you visit the USA you need to do some wildfowling. Nothing like laying down in a flooded rice field right above freezing after a 1/2 mile hike through the same and trying not to move while the birds come in. If anything the water and mud in this episode was a bit on the light side. 😂

    A few observations. 1. You were all good sports, but Michael in particular. 2. If Ryan was a person of normal height, like Michael and I, you barely get into a squat before your backside was on the chair 3. Shooting 1.5oz 1415 FPS Kent Fast Lead was no issue from my A400. The Black Cloud 3.5 was likely 1500 FPS. I think the 3.5" A400 would eat those up as well. The loading feature on the Maxus 2 is nice. 4. Another great episode. Just wish I could see you guys in person more often.

I suspect gamekeepers aren't as fussed about keeping it clean and would lean towards intertia over gas for that reason? I didn't think I'd enjoy this series but I really am enjoying it! Like London real-estate, British bespoke gun making will depend on how much money international oligarchs decide to park in the U.K. Directly or indirectly, since the collapse of the Empire 100 years ago, that's where the money comes from.

    Eyup John and the boys, Another great show but I have to disagree with your choice of the best semi automatic, you are all singing the praises of the Browning Maxus 2. Having tried one at the Browning road show at Orston and not missing anything I went out and bought one brand new and had nothing but problems with it cycling any shells below 32g. Browning had it back twice and "repaired" it, Why would a brand new gun need repairing???? And what a pig to clean. After the third time of it jamming up I took it back to my gun shop and replaced it with a Benelli supersport and haven't a any problems whatsoever, I've put everything through it and it cycles perfectly. Inertia for me every time from now on.

  • @CanadianWaterfowler

    @CanadianWaterfowler

    Жыл бұрын

    (Disclaimer: this comment it's gonna sound sooo not English!) Dude, that Maxus is a HUNTING gun, not a clay gun! Moreover, it's a hunting gun meant for waterfowl. Again moreover, North American waterfowl hunting (where the shell of choice is 3.5" more often than not). That 1 1/4 Oz in the waterfowl world is considered a "light load". Most of the season you're allowed 3 or 5 geese and 6 ducks, daily bag limit. The North American waterfowler thinks: "Ain't gonna go home one goose short of the bag, 'cause the birds didn't decoy just right. I'm gonna get myself some #BBB 3.5" shells and I'm gonna shoot at those birds passing at the outer limits of the field." (1 1/4 Oz is about 32 grams while the 3.5" shells pack 36 grams of shot). Also, while sporting loads are limited to "3 Dram equivalent" of powder, hunting loads are always heavier than that. Much heavier. About cleaning... ALL gas operated semis are quite a chore to clean. It's the price to pay for significantly lighter recoil. If you don't want to clean messy gas semis, get an "inertia" (and don't complain about your shoulder). Bottom line, it sounds like you chose the wrong tool for your purposes... That Maxus is a solid waterfowl gun. At the same time, it's a poor choice for clay shooting.

  • @CanadianWaterfowler

    @CanadianWaterfowler

    Жыл бұрын

    Further to my previous comment - Maxus is one of those guns that need a "break-in". That means: "Reliably cycle" means heavy loads.

  • @barryfreer4841

    @barryfreer4841

    Жыл бұрын

    Thanks to Canadian waterfowler for the comments made and point taken. But I ain't no novice when it comes to breaking in shotguns and I put way more than 100 heavy gauge shells through the Maxus 2 to break it in. Over here the gun is advertised as an all round tool not just for waterfowling, and John and his colleagues were praising it as such., I just begged to differ from their appraisal.
