July 12th was a FREAKING MONSTER of a show. Can’t wait to find tapes and hopefully they release high res vids, just beyond words. Mayer was swapping between his prototype Dead Spec and another Dead Spec which you can see is a 3pc ash body and his silver 594. He’s never sounded better.

I appreciate respecting our artists that we hold in such high regard, period. That being said, do you think John would stubble upon this video and be offended or betrayed by you talking about his pedals or other equipment? .. personally I doubt that for many reasons. Just my 2 cents. Many props for all the work you do & knowledge you share here 🫡🤘🏻

His dead spec used in Summer 2023 Dead & Co was a prototype Dead Spec Silver Sky and at least appeared to have a 1 piece body. The production dead specs have 3 piece ash bodies (I have one and it's beyond amazing, exceeded all expectations!) The one he's using at Sphere is a different physical guitar than last summer because you can clearly see it's a 3 piece body during close ups at the show. So it's likely a production model. Between the Dead Spec for strat single coils and the 594 for humbucker, shorter scale Les Paul tones, Mayer sounds better than he ever has. Seriously, he and PRS are doing incredible work raising the bar for everyone.

John used the Blue Curly PRS a lot during the 2016 dead and co summer tour. For Morning Dew, Dark Stars, and any blues songs. I have every dead and co show video and return to the 2016 shows a lot. Missed that one and im glad hes busted out out

Is anyone by chance keeping track of which tunes John uses what guitars on? It’d be interesting to know if he’s used singles then hums on the same tune but different nights.

I played one of the blue collections ones that was at the guitar shop in toronto. I was going to sell a ton of gear to pay for it. We agreed to hold it for a day, then I would come back with a deposit, I get a call later from the guy who managed the shop with some bullshit about a flood and how they had to send it back to PRS. I knew it was bullshit from the get go, eventually I got him to admit that he sold it, I never felt so cheated in my life. Luckily I hadn’t sold anything, it’s just a shit way to do business, which is probably why they’re out of biz.

PRS Collection Series are some of the greatest feeling, sounding and looking guitars ever created by PRS. I bet John has one of each of the 9 different eletric guitars that they made. I think the Collection Series is now discontinued. They will probably will be worth alot one day!

Having seen D&C several times, I agree. I think the Silver Sky comes across overly bright and lacking mids. In the dense mix the humbuckers sit better IMHO

If John was that concerned about people knowing his gear he’d black out everything or control his board with foot switches or something. Love your videos but I don’t think there’s an ethical dilemma here lol it’s really not that deep

The super eagle still remains the best guitar john has played with D&C
