IMHO , that guitar sounds just like, if not better than the Fender version.... but as we all truly know.... it's all in the nands..... excellent job.

I think John Mayer would love this, I think i saw him say somewhere he loves seeing mods of the Silver Sky and seeing players making the guitar their own

John Mayer has said several times he’s not interesting in seeing a sunburst finish on a Silver Sky, so probably not.

This is making a silver Sky into SRV Guitar not making it your own

All I know is I have had dozens of Strats and I bought a silver sky this year and it’s the best sounding one I’ve ever had.

The one thing that puts me off about the Silver Sky is the white scratch plates. I really think they should release a sunburst black guard version

The matching headstock looks really nice. Not a relic fan but Aging is done so well 👌🏽👌🏽.

The guitar is fun, but damn, your playing is off-the-charts good.

Yeah, PRS should make these without the "SRV" initials on the pickguard.

I think the headstock really makes it.

I think it’s pretty cool and I lived in Austin Texas for a very long time and I would go down to the Rome Inn and see him play all the time it’s still blows my mind that he’s gone! it just seems like yesterday he was knocking around Austin trying to get something to happen just a local cat and now he’s transcended into legend!

Folks can have their own opinions on the relic or whatever, but the fact remains that this guitar has TONE!!!!! it's in the hands too... but the constellation of wood and electronics here come together lovely!

If you’re hating, remember, it’s just a tool! Clapton, Gilmour and many others sold historic guitars, sometimes even donated them. PRS is around since 1985, so it wasn’t able to be played at the legendary 60s and 70s. It’s a matter of time until more people stop with the nonsense criticism of “soulless”, “too perfect” etc.

The SRV Number 1 is one option, but I actually think that the silver sky would make a great canvas to recreate/emulate the SRV Charley Wirz guitars like the Charley lipstick guitar and also the Hamiltone 'couldn't stand the weather guitar'. Those would be sick

I think Stevie would have loved it too… I put a comment above saying Stevie painted, scrawled on , put stickers on gutted and totally modded all his guitars. He wasn’t even brand tied either (saw him with lots of makes) in interviews he always said as long as it played and sounded good that’s all that mattered.

But we can only guess. Not sure he or Jimmie would love seeing SRV’s name on a guitar he didn’t endorse but who knows. At least they’re not selling them like this.

​@ewm335 I get that and that certainly is a different matter. My comment was more the concept of modding, mutilating, making hybrids etc. As we all know Brands are protected by law. The estate would need to approve and certainly take a cut 😊

Beautiful guitar, really and it sounds amazing! The only thing I don't get is the headstock. Id' probably left it blonde and do the SRV relinking that's for sure...

Other than the relicing done to the Silver Sky by Paul (not PRS Paul!), it's a completely stock 2023 Dodgem Blue Silver Sky which come with 635JM single-coil pickups.

I think it sounds great. And it is his guitar so what ever makes him happy.

Absolutely gorgeous. SRV look is it’s own thing and does not requige any particular canvas where to put it. Silver Sky is a good looking guitar and sunburst / aging suits it well.

I mean, why not? Quite a clever idea, and who doesn’t love something that turns everything on its head? Tone is tight too.

paul if you see this please make a pro and se silver sky model with a 2 or 3 tone burst design (with maybe relic being an option in the sig model) with the tinted headstock etc, and with offwhite vintage pickguard and pot options etc. please good sir, please!

That smile when John engaged the Duelist, 6:10, tells you it sounds and feels good. I’m still conflicted about the guitar. Body looks great. Not sure what happend to the neck.

From what I have read it’s the standard silver sky pickups. Custom made for John Mayer by PRS to represent vintage 63/64 strat sound. Ironically called the 635JM (635 meaning 63.5 for half way between 63 and 64)

I love it, I'm sure it feels and plays beautifully

To each his own, Not by bag by a long shot.. but it's a nice hat tip to SRV!

Note to self: when relicing a guitar always leave the plastics looking brand new.

My thing is why didn’t they age the pickup cover and knobs as well? I love relic guitars especially SRV style ones, but it just looks weird with bright new looking knobs. Odd choice.

Shouldn’t we have a normal silver sky vs a relic to see if there is a toneall difference between the two?

I think that it's mostly that guitar players have gotten used to the Fender headstock more than it being actually attractive. Most of my non-playing friends think Ferder's headstock is to worst looking of all the guitars I own.

At least it’s a one off
