Love this song! It was written about California earthquakes and was also inspired by Joni Mitchell. All Zeppelin songs are great. 💚🤙

"Oh she sings" - that's for Joni Mitchell. The mandolin adds the depth to this acoustic version of the song.

Mel & Shawn, "Going To California", is my 6th favorite Zeppelin tune. When one considers the supreme quality and depth of the band's catalog, that is exceptionally high praise for the song.

Its a shame they didn't put more camera time on John Paul Jones playing the mandolin in this song

As a relative newbie to acoustic guitar Jimmy's performance is just stunning. Robert's vocals are...well.. Robert's. The lyrics and arrangement incredible.

Nice to see that some traditions carry on.

Of course, this was in our essential playlist on the cassette in our car on our first cross-country trip to California back in the early '80s.

I’ve seen Lead Singer, Robert Plant 4 times he still sings Going to California at his concerts and he still sounds quite Amazing! I love him he is a Genius musician and lyricist! ❤️

I am a huge Zeppelin fan but especially a huge fan of Jimmy Page (the gorgeous man playing guitar). I could watch him play anything all day long.

Don’t forget John Paul Jones on Mandolin; he added bizazze to Jimmy’s guitar playing.

This and "Four Sticks" were the only tracks on this album that weren't pretty big. The "deep cuts" from this album, they often get overlooked when you think about the 4th album and the legendary songs on it.

The girl who plays guitar and sings is "Joni Mitchell" Robert Plant had a crush on Joni and the song is about Joni.

California (LA in particular) was an anchor stop for touring bands doing the US or N America. Many musicians owned 2nd homes here and spent time destressing, or during breaks in touring, or just vacationing if they were from other countries or colder climates. Joni Mitchell owned a home in the hills (also the subject a famous song she wrote and recorded with Graham Nash - Crosby Stills & Nash) called "Our House". Many musicians made the treck here in the late 60s early 70s, it was a trendy gathering spot and she was at the height of her popularity. I believe they are referring to this house on the hill when they sing *Meet you up there where the path runs straight and high* LZ adored Joni, and she once said that LZ were the only male stars of the time to be brave enough to admit they listened to her music.
