History of Wonderboy (What we know so far): 1st Wonderboy: Grew up and became the second Captain Sunshine 2nd Wonderboy: The guy in this clip. No longer gets to use the name but do get to use the costume. 3rd Wonderboy: Was killed by The Monarch. 4th Wonderboy: Hank Venture. Was only Wonderboy for a day before quitting. 5th Wonderboy: Kid with black hair, seen in the episode 'Bot Seeks Bot'.

The problem here is that many of them were so traumatized by their horrible experiences as boy adventurers/detectives/sidekicks that they weren't able to mature mentally. They're still living in the shadows of their father figures which is why these grown men refer to themselves as *boys* . We've seen enough of Rusty and Johnny to understand their numerous issues. Wonderboy: He *LOVED* being Wonderboy and he clearly never considered becoming his own superhero/man or the possibility of being replaced. That's why being replaced led to his depression and abandonment issues. The Hale Brothers: Based on their behavior they grew up w/ an emotionally distant and demanding father who pushed his sons into being boy detectives. They desperately wanted their father's affection/appreciation, but never got any to the point they finally snapped and killed him. They suffer from crippling guilt about their unconfessed crime. RoBoy: He was created to fight giant robots/monsters, but that's all he knows. Unfortunately that's all he knows how to do so to him every giant robot is just another enemy for him to defeat. That kind of existence full of endless battles can lead to severely psychotic thoughts. "Sometimes I want to burn the whole world"=If the whole world burns there'll be no more giant robots for me to fight and I'll finally be free.

I read something somewhere once that, when trauma happens to you at a young age, there's a part of you that's (mentally) still at that age. Not sure how true that is, but it sounds reasonable.

@@ianfinrir8724Very much so. I’m 27 and incredibly emotionally stunted from several childhood traumatic instances. You can look up “CPTSD” (childhood PTSD) and it’ll give you a few causes and symptoms (dysregulation, chronic depression, emotional immaturity/impulsivity, rage or depressive episodes, dissociation identity problems (me!!), and countless other elements. Venture Bros hits hard with how deadpan it looks at trauma.

The hale brothers is a reference to a real murder case, even down to the shotgun imprints on the guys hands..

I really love that Roboy doesn't get upset, he just looks around like "Uhhh?" It reveals his more docile personality so that when he talks about the darker aspects of his personality, it's more jarring. Nice.

As soneone who's actually read the original Astro Boy manga, seeing Ro-Boy in therapy is interesting. For those who don't know, Astro was created by Dr. Tenma as a replacement for his son, who died in a tragic accident. Dr. Tenma was fine with this for a while, but soon went mad upon realizing that Astro was not a real boy and would never grow. As a result, he sold Astro to the circus and vanished into the shadows, becoming the primary antagonist of the series. While in the circus, Astro was discovered by the kind Dr. Ochanomizu, who bought him from the circus in order to give him a better life, which included giving him his trademark powers and the name Astro Boy. Now, for someone like Ro-Boy, who is meant to be a more grim and realistic take on Astro Boy, I can't even imagine what he went through.

Lance Hale nailed the "sweater over the shoulders" style that the menedez brothers used. It went out of style quickly after their trial. It already looked douchey wearing a sweater in a way that provided no warmth, only to flex that you can afford an expensive sweater. But when it became associated with those parent killers, that was the final straw that broke the cashmere goat's back.

Well considering his clients were 1) A pair of former boy detectives that claim they "hardly got dick" from their father's fortune 2) Jonny Quest, there on order of the judge (so the therapist is probably court-appointed) 3) Wonderboy, who is obviously not doing well financially or otherwise 4) Famous cheapskate Rusty Venture 5) A robotic child Probably not much, cos none of those guys are going to be paying big bucks.

I consider that red headed Wonderboy to be a parody of the red headed Robin from after Bruce got out of retirement and went back to being Batman. I never really saw much of her, but I don’t think she was really that memorable.

Funny how the boys are all traumatised in somewhat different ways, despite relatively similar lifestyles. The Hale brothers have obvious inferiority complexes and a dynamic that's kinda like Hank and Dean's but turned toxic.
