Not a Delorean owner, but have love the car since it was first introduced. I found watching this video very satisfying and enjoyable.

Right where you said the camera angle was too close, I actually found it very insightful. Watching the the motion of the drill and your arm shows how you can expect the drum to feel like as you regrain. I watched it a few times to learn how to anticipate how the drill will feel if I ever decide to use one. For me, I'll stick to the scotch pads and time, I cant mess it up too bad if I go slow... Great video!

Al V you do have the right idea. In the wrong hands you can cause irreversible damage. Drum sander especially will create loads of heat and moves metal quickly.

Great job on these videos. How about one on alignment/lowering with performance springs?

You might want to wear safety glasses. My dad got a piece of wire from a wire wheel stuck in his eye doing body work

I got one in my cheek bone when i was a kid polishing a motor up. Straight to the bone! I used some Vise Grips and yanked like hell! Since then I always where a face shield with any rotary brush! Lucky I say!

While safety glasses are ALWAYS a good idea, there’s no wire in the wolfhead wheel. The brushes are soft bristle. Like a paintbrush but stiffer.

Excelente video! Kevin my question to you is if the air tool that was used at the factory would produce a better finish then the electrical? I know it would require lots of PSI to get that wheel to turn with an air tool. But I would assume that if used perhaps it’s used at 1000psi. In your opinion have you ever tried with an original factory air tool? And did you see any difference in quality on the steel or even easier or harder to use then the electrical. Also do you have an opinion if air tool is used would heat transfer be less then an electrical tool? Thank you. You definitely did and awesome graining the finish!!

Thanks for the feedback! In answer to your question, I have never used the original pneumatic tool, it would take a lot of air to keep that going for 6+ hours and the hose would drive me crazy! In my opinion, it wouldn’t make a difference as to what was powering the wheel as long and the speed was consistent. The wheel doesn’t know what’s making it spin (if that makes sense) I have used a couple different styles of electric drills and haven’t noticed a difference in the finish quality from one to the next. I think that’s more on the operator and technique then making sure the right paper and wheel is in use.

I know this is probably difficult to quantify, but what sort of pressure is used with the wheel? Are you just resting it on the panel or pushing down, etc.?

Hello, What are the dimensions of the Wolfhead brush and sandpaper. Also does it come with the adapter to use with a drill?

We had to make the adapter for a drill. Width can be purchased in 1.5" or 2"

Does this makes the metal less durable over the period. What’s the avg cost to get it done on Delorean? And how many times a year ?

Graining has very little effect on the durability of the panels. Filing and sanding is more aggressive and needs to done carefully. This is the equivalent of repainting a car and should only be done when needed.

When using WD40 on the work area and pad, what do you use to clean off the WD40 after?

Just a soap and water wash to clean it off.

Yes it is, I do most of them at DeLorean Midwest but I can possibly do it off site depending on location.

Do you guys sell the wolfwheel or might you have a link on where I could purchase one? Either that, or the next time you guys are in Alaska I would definitely pay for a re-grain.

@@trstno1626 a full regrain normally runs around $1500 and usually takes around 8 hours or so to complete but it depends on the car. If there are deep scratches or pits in the stainless that can create a lot more work. As for small dents yes we can typically work those out with a varying levels of success depending on where they are located on the car.

@@deloreannation Aloha, I just bought an 81 DMC-12 that needs a refrain. Finding someone here in Hawaii is tough. Would you consider coming to Hawaii for a vacation/regrain if we could work something out? Or do you know anyone in the area? I live on Oahu.

@@keneisner7363 A vacation to Hawaii sounds incredible, never been there. I would definitely consider it. Unfortunately I don’t know of anyone there that does this kind of work.

@@guillaumedeschenes3762 the wheel is separate from the sand paper loads. You can order whatever grit you like with the wheel, for the DeLorean the correct grit is 80 or 120.

Yes body panels are 308 stainless.

@@victimovtalent6036 DeLorean is the only stainless bodied full production vehicle that I'm aware of. Very limited runs were done of 3 Fords also.

Was graining hard to learn?

Those pittings are most likely corrosion spots.

In most cases I would agree, usually you will actually have specks of rust in said pits which is the indication of where it came from. However, since the glass was also pitted on this car, it came from something else.
