just to share a bit I was pulled over the night after the Ferguson grand jury findings were announced while riding my motorcycle. I'm black obviously if you see my pic here. Anyway the police officer ask me to remove my helmet and place my hands on my bike. He then asked me if I had any weapons and I said yes. He asked if he could disarm me for his safety and I complied. After which I produced my CHL and drivers license. Long story short he returned my weapon and told me to slow down because of all the black Friday shopping traffic. He shook my hand returned my weapon and drove away. Tyrus has made a great point. Thanks for allowing me to share.

+ino592002 I was once referred to as racist when I pointed out that we're all ambassadors and that our actions reflect on others. He said that because he didn't like what I had to say, not because what I said was inherently wrong. You had an impact on how those police view black people, even if it's a small difference because of the ignorance and stupidity of BLM. The world would be a much better place if more people took personal responsibility for their actions and recognised that they affect how others see people they associate people in that group.

Put yourself in the position of a policy officer. Nobody likes to get pulled over, and how many insults and indignities are these officers expected to put up with every day? Not to mention the constant danger. They have a thankless job to do, and we'd all be a lot worse off without the police. Just stay cool and everybody will be better off.

As you can see by my hand in the photo I'm white as dirty snow. The last time I was pulled over it was for going 2 miles over the speed limit. The cop asked " Are you in a bit of a hurry?" I smiled and said "Yes, in fact I am" "I've been half-way across this state (Arkansas) and back, and it's late, and I'm needing to get these trees home" He naturally had looked in the bed of my pick up at all the trees as he walked up. He walked back to his car, and I guess checked my information I had given him, and he came back and said "slow it down some and enjoy your trees." Then he walked off. I wasn't being a smart elleck, but I was a bit miffed about being two miles over the speed limit and picked out of a crowd of vehicles doing as fast or faster than I. I kept it to my self however.

Too be honest. As a white dude. The majority of us can agree that we're not the ones keeping racism/segregation alive. It's getting a little ridiculous constantly hearing about individual situations labeled as such.

I won't even bother to tell you the things I have seen. It has made me older than my parents. God bless you.

Another thought. We all comply with orders and directives every day. Our employer, military leaders, spouses, teachers, religious leaders, home owner's association, business owners all give directives, orders or demands and we comply. Why is it the moment an Officer of the Law gives a order or directive, it becomes a game of "Who has the biggest balls"? This I'm not a Punk or Sheep mentality has ruined lives. It's not about being a punk, it's about assisting the officer in preserving the peace and being on your way. It's not that much different than any other interaction throughout the day. Show a little respect and common courtesy and you might find that the cop will let you go without a citation and without escalation. Putting on a show for the crowd or for KZread likes is like trying to scratch a lion's ass in a telephone booth. You are just asking for trouble. Maybe it's just me.....SMH

You are right. I always ask myself what the hell is wrong with these people when i see that. When you look around on youtube, you can find whole channels about "how to resist the police as much as you can without breaking the law". Police officers are there to protect civilians. Civilians who act respectful have nothing to fear. Resisting just for the sake of resisting and making it hard for the police to do their job helps nobody.

Exactly. And people seem to think cops don't have the brain capacity to notice patterns and trends in peoples behaviour and act with more caution when they feel like they need to. They find themselves is potentially life threatening situations regularly. Its unfortunate that this happens but sometimes necessary for the police when trying to keep safe and alert.

***** The problem I have with that is this. So long as non-compliance is just simply a bad attitude or maybe cross words then it should be understood as someone having a bad day. Officers often approach vehicles already pissed off and "YES" they use profanity and inappropriate language as well. They are not "DUE" respect in language or demeanor, they are stewards of the law, nothing more. So long as a citizen's non-compliance is not a felony act, then they do not deserve the death penalty on the spot. Stop promoting LEO to be Supreme rulers over the citizens whom they work for. While I agree they have a dangerous job, that fact alone does not give them the right to abuse their authority. Noe does it grant them some imaginary respect above all else. They are human beings capable of offending, disrespecting and making bad decisions just like citizens. And folks are fed up with being stopped for nothing. I'm usually in the mindset of just saying "Yes Sir, No Sir" and going on about my day. But when that happens several times a day for no reason, I have no problem in saying; "Fuck you you crooked bastard", and there is absolutely nothing they can do because I have not broken the law..........

Even when I felt a stop while driving or walking was BS, I complied and kept it as cordial as possible. I don't do that because I am a coward, I do that because I have things to lose. It doesn't hurt me to produce a CCW, License or ID. Takes minutes and I'm on my way. BTW, I have been harassed more by African-American cops than any other race of Officers. On the other hand, Citizens have the right to resist an unlawful arrest or detainment but think about that for a moment. Who wants to sit in jail over the weekend losing a couple days pay lose their life because things escalated for failure to ID or exit a vehicle. I'm all for keeping them (LEO) honest, but you can bet your last dollar I won't be the dead and gone reason for the next march. Show my CCW, license, registration and be on my way back to my family or work. I'm all for the 1st amendment, but as any veteran knows, when told to keep quiet you keep quiet. I'm all for the 2nd Amendment but failure to notify in Virginia can result in the loss of your permit. Equally, failure to show driver's license while operating a motor vehicle can result in loss of driving privileges. It's not worth it to me, I have mouths to feed and soccer games to attend. Good luck with that militant BS.

Guns N' Moses An unlawful detainment can be fought on your day in court regarding your traffic stop. But when you resist or fail to comply, that isn't unlawful anymore. That's no longer a traffic violation. That's a crime, and you really hurt your case. Because if you face a judge arguing an unlawful detainment with an arrest for failure to comply, you have discredited your knowledge of the law.

Agreed. There are many courts many different sets of rules and legislation. So then one could also imagine the various parameters involved. Undoubtedly, the chances of getting favorable results as either defendant or prosecutor are also influenced by these.

Solution: We, who have experienced police brutality growing up, should become officers and instead of instantly forgetting about our past negative episodes as soon as we put on the blue uniform we should seek to remember how those episodes made us feel and police the neighborhood from a sympathetic & patient point of view to regain trust in the community.

Exactly Tyrus I recall when a college student said if a cop stopped her to investigate her car that she would refuse another student named Glenn Campbell asked her that only people who had something to hide Would say something like that! I think it is interesting the common response to the black lives matter phrase: "all lives matter". As though the assertion that specifically black lives matter constitutes that no lives matter except for blacks. "all lives matter" yeah well no shit, no one is denying that, the point of the black lives matter phrase is to put emphasis on a minority group; not to deny anyone there rights. After all the phrase is NOT "Only Black Lives Matter".

It's unfortunate. I stand by my claim that it was originally a peaceful campaign, but I understand that there is a lot of prejudice and violence intermixed into it. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that blacks are a major part of the population's poverty rate. It makes sense that the people at the bottom are the ones who scream the loudest.

They have fallen in to the valley of radicalism... and it's not even just a vocal minority anymore that has seemingly went insane. It's a growing number (although, more-so concerning feminism). May these movements deaths be swift, and sane people take up their place to steer the ideologies in the right direction.

Finally, here is a man, who understands; it is your responsibility, to do, what the police officers tell you to do when you are stopped for a traffic violation or for any other reason! When you comply most likely you will be treated with respect!

He's right. Search for "police shootings dashcam" in KZread and watch the insane behavior of many who disobey the repeated orders to get out of a car, or to put their hands where they can be seen, or to stop walking away... even after the police draw their guns. Plain stupid, sheer suicidal. There are some exceptional cases, however, when I feel the police should have acted more calmly and respectfully instead of escalating so fast. The bottom line is, if everyone plays by the rules under these potentially stressful situations no one should get hurt.

I had a similar moment once. I was going to a festival and the police was checking our bags. I had nothing to hide, but the girls i was going with insisted that i'd claim my right for privacy and that my bag shouldn't be checked. I was like "girl, don't fucking get me into trouble, i've got nothing illegal anyway"

sooo innocent until proven guilty isn't a thing. ok. I fully acknowledge the real world we live in. I'm aware by black sign could get me killed should I choose to be aggressive or even if I appear aggressive which is a scary thing. My argument is: Is that legal? The answer is no. It isn't, it infringes on my rights. So I won't fight with a officer for fear of my life but I fully aware that my rights are being trampled on by doing so.
