The Green Revolution, how Danish Grass replaces Soy in Animal Feed | EU SCIENCE

Ғылым және технология

The global demand for soy as animal feed continues to rise! This puts enormous pressure on natural areas and biodiversity in soy production regions, and global transport has a bad effect on our climate.
In Denmark, at Aarhus University, researchers at the interdisciplinary research center CBIO - Centre for Circular Bioeconomy - are looking for locally grown, sustainable alternatives to soy imports for animal feed. One promising candidate is grass.
In the demonstration plant of the European-funded GO-GRASS project, they are operating a small-scale biorefinery to produce protein from grass. On the one hand, the project is optimizing the biorefinery process to achieve a high yield and purity of protein for feeding pigs and poultry. On the other hand, the by-products in the form of recycled nutrients, bioenergy and biomaterials will also be further investigated.
