And how do you define their ethical background with being strong?? In what wise?? They all were one way or another : what’s the difference between Slavic or Greek or African cariyah if equal education had been given?? The rest is up to Valide Sultan: not even Sultana !-to pick up several suits for their sons .

The reason Vienna was so important to conquer for the ottomans is because during Mehmed The Conquerors reign ottomans captured Constantinople and Mehmed declared himself the Kayser-i Rum, The emperor of Rome he had 2 reasons to claim that title, 1- Ottoman imperial family’s past marriages with Byzantine royal family and 2 obviously he conquered Constantinople the capital of East Rome and therefore ended the East Rome but he also conquered the Trebizond because Trebizond royal family was directly descendent of a past Roman family, the importance of Vienna became crucial in suleiman the magnificents reign because Charles V von Habsburg was claiming the title emperor, suleiman asked his closest friend and the grand vizier at the time Ibrahim pasha, what should I do to become undisputed emperor of Rome, Ibrahim said to him if you conquer Germany you’ll be the undisputed emperor of Rome, because of that reason suleiman beat Hungary in Mohacs and by just 2 hours of battle the Mighty Kingdom of Hungary was destroyed, after the conquest of Hungary he aimed for the Vienna, but due to weather conditions he lift the siege and turned back to Constantinople. Because he failed to take Vienna it became more important because sultans after him wanted to do what he couldn’t.

The Ottoman Empire fascinates me. I'm working my way through Magnificent Century Hurrem, Magnificent Century Kosem, and Payitaht Abdulhamid and loving all of them. I really like Abdulhamid--he sounded like a very decent man. Not too many of those these days. Anyhow thank you for posting this. It's helped me to learn more about Ottoman history.

It was a very brutal time in history. But you act as if the European kings and Queens were a lot of candidates for sainthood while rulers like Suleiman were the Devil incarnate.

Mehmet the 4th did not come up with the title Haseki, Sultan Sulieman (the magnificent) came up with the Haseki title and gave it to his true love Hurrem Sultan. I am so glad they put some of the TV series of Magnificent Century , the most handsome Mustafa 😍

The technique of wound closure by ants is described in Shushruta samhita , treatise by Sushruta an Indian surgeon from 800CE ...much before the Ottoman empire came into existence even.

This Documentary reveals something quite interesting surrounding the reputation of the sultanate of women at the time. Sure Gulnus does not become a regent like Turhan and Kosem, but it seems she was very influential in her son's reigns.

The description of the Emperor is so underrated tho 💀

Trying to put this all into context. I read a lot about Hurrem, but Gülnuş is much later. After Kosem died by orders from Turhan, Turhan took over as Valide of the Harem. Gülnuş knew Turhan, they had a rivalry I bet, but I read that Turhan was removed from power by her son five years later. So fascinating!

turhan doesn't have a power afterall, after kosem no more sultanate of women, it ended when kosem died, turhan just a valide to his son but no power as what kosem was during Herbalife and regent time

Turhan handed over her political power to Korpulu Mehmed Pasha who became Grand Vizier on the condition he be given greater authority. Turhan's political inexperience hurt her. Still she was infuencial and much respected as a Valide Sultan. Kosem, Nurbanu even Hurrem wielded greater power & influence. After Turhan The Sultanate of Women ended.

For me, Greek haseki immediately made me think Kösem. Because haseki means more than just a favoured. It means first. The first woman, wife of the emperor. Before Hürrem, mother of the first prince. But this title actually began to have a notable meaning when Süleyman married Hürrem, so they say.

@@petercrash9670 janissaries were a minority in the Ottoman army. Majority of the soldiers were Turks. Also islamised Greeks are minority. Most of the Greeks preserved their identity and religion all the way to population exchange. We have some native Anatolian DNA but people who identify as Turks are all descendants of Turkic conquerors. Also most Greeks are Hellenised Slavs, Albanians and Anatolians. For example Pontic Greeks are basically natives of Eastern Black Sea region of Anatolia.

Some people believe his brother Louis Thomas or even Eugene himself are sons of Louis XIV but by the time of Louis Thomas's birth Olympia's affair whit the king was already over for a long time btw Olympia was subject to domestic violence by Eugene's father

Exactly. In fact turhan tried to help and warned kosem about the plot but failed because turhan was beaten by the order of kosem

The Turks with Sultan Mustafa came twice to besiege Vienna. Since in those days all of Vienna had catacombs the Viennese could go beyond the city walls to fetch water and plant potatoes. The Turks couldn't figure out why the Viennese would not capitulate. Prince Eugene and a Prussian army came in the nick of time to chase the Turks away. They left all of their belongings behind which still can be seen at the War museum in Vienna. If the Turks would have succeeded they would have overrun Europe and it would have become Islamic then. Vienna was the last wall of defense. It's for that reason that this success/win was so important and profound.

In those days European alliance armies were in no way superior or inferior to Ottomans armies. Balance of power in Europe now is a Chamberlainian pacifist illusion, foisted upon itself by Europe. Maybe due to guilt complex or otherwise, (due to "colonization" of Muslim lands) since 1800s. In politico islamist conquests there is no "colonization", only reverse merger as in "assimilation"! Islamists shall do now what they could not achieve in Vienna & Buda, Serbia, Greece , Macedonia, Hungary. That seems to be the clear plan,- whether in response to Daesh/Taliban or not.
