Thank you so much Your Grace, Bishop Robert Barron for highlighting the subject of PRIDE. You often make me reflect on the things Jesus taught us. After PRIDE is ANGER. Sometimes when we are too learned, pride comes in. I say the 'Jesus meek & humble of heart' prayer everyday.❤ This enables me to do a 'check & balance'.

Mark 3:28-30 RSV - "Truly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they utter; but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin"-- for they had said, "He has an unclean spirit."

Pride is defined as excessive love for one's excellence to the point that you believe your talents, abilities, achievements, etc. come from you and not from God. You can be proud of yourself and others, especially after achieving something good, like when you finally achieve your healthy weight after being obese for so long, but you understand that God helped you.

  • @therealong

@Jordan-tu4ki The English language doesn't have the exact term for this capital sin. The closest one I could come to is "Hubris". Otherwise one must add an adjectival context, like arrogance, haughtiness and even narcissism. It's covered in Church History, by several Saints, Augustine, Aquinas, and even by Pope St. Gregory the Great in the 6th century AD.
