I will honestly never understand how this movie didn't win a single award. Not from a fan point of view, but plain common sense. I don't think it got the coverage it needed and deserved. Literally one of the most amazing movies I've seen in so long, I was so surprised by this film. The music was so beautiful, like there's not really any words to justly describe it. I'm just so incredibly disappointed in the light that hasn't been shone on this. It's a work of art, and honestly has revived my hopes in the film industry. Because here lately so many films get hyped up and 90% of them are such major letdowns than what we expected. I love movies and music so I always try new things no matter what, but this film was such a breath of fresh air. Everyone in the world deserves and needs to see this, at least once.

Ok I don’t see a lot of people appreciating charity so ima just point this out Charity is one of my fav characters because she didn’t care where he came from and his money , she stayed by him and believed in him all of the time Even while away at that school she waited for his letter and wrote back . She trusted him to even almost jump of a building like I need some love like charity in my life

The movie's focus and direction was off. They nailed the musicals but the plot was screwy. The big love set up in this scene, was never followed up very good. The movie's focus changed to the circus. While he has a potential affair and his wife sings about a tightrope, and eventually culminates in the "From now on", scene, it just doesn't feel like all these pieces were tied together right.

I think she acted it great. had i been directing it, I would have taken the boys acting in another direction for that scene. I would have made him at first only haveing eyes for the apple itself, after grabbing it, seeing her for real, not covering or recoiling from her looks, but brimming with held back tears and thankfulness over the kindness. Also I would have liked to see some really hard closed eyes like trying first to hold back tears of frustration after the bread was bulled away from him. Still I think they as children is really great and I think really the best part of the movie.

I loved his wife in this film. Like you can clearly see him staring at people with more money, the people in the fancy restaurant, the disappointment when he sees their tiny apartment, but his wife drags him away every time. She doesn't care about any of that, the only thing she wants is the man in front of her.

Has anyone realized that the movie had the same fate as the story itself? Hated by critics but loved by the audience. "All you're selling is fake" - critics gave it a bad review due to it being historically inaccurate "Do these smiles seem fake?" - audience. This movie made our year and closed 2017 perfectly.

Wow that’s funny, I did not realize that. But yeah you’re right, I honestly couldn’t care less if it were historically accurate, movies are supposed to be a place where you can get emotionally involved in a fictional character (most of the time at least) and if this P. T. was fictional and only loosed based on the real one I really couldn’t couldn’t care less if I’m able to get emotionally involved.

Of ALL the wonderful characters in this movie, my favourite is Charity Barnum. It's just... She's just so lovely and wonderful. In the movie, never once she complained about her life or her status. She always knows what she wants in life and she has it, and cherishes it. She sees magic in everything around her and loves her family unconditionally. I love her so much!

Quinn Blogs I guess your point was she loved him for him and wanted the simple life. He loved her but hated where he came from and wanted status and respect above all else. For him and his daughters. Almost lost Charity because of it. She saw Barnum slowly pulling away. She still trusted him despite seeing something somewhat developing between him and the opera singer. Charity was the most likable because she was the most non superficial female I have seen on screen for in a long time. They don't make too many women like that these days, particular coming from wealth. They do exist.

Quinn Blogs while she did say that, I think it meant that a lot of people would rather be rich because it's the safer route. You don't have to worry about lack of food, proper shelter, etc. Having wealth provides what you need and more. But Charity is okay with living a life of no wealth, it's like the sea, it can be rough sometimes, but the time spent is more enjoyable. The old house in a million dreams? Charity loved it, even though it's run down and old.

This part of the film is really important. It tells us to not judge people, not to judge someone on how wealthy they are, and the smallest actions of kindness can make the biggest difference. The apple scene was my favourite. That lady was suffering just as much as him yet she gave up probably her meal for the day for a young child. How beautiful. 💖

I love that so many people appreciate Charity in the comments but I also wanna put it out there how heartbreaking Barnum's story was. From the slap to the whole song's sequence, it's heartbreaking how much he had to suffer as a literal child, how his dreams and Charity were the only things he had. It's true to life for a lot of children out there born and raised into poverty who cant even afford to have a dream. Listening to the song makes me think of a child who's desperately hanging on to their dream in order to endure reality.

The storyline is fake, P.T. was a terrible person in real life lol His whole circus was even fake. He made everyone seem more extraordinary than they actually were, pulled out their teeth, stuffed them with pillows (as you saw in the movie) and didn't care for absolutely anyone but himself! But you were right about this being the best musical in years. Everything about this movie was phenomenal!!!! One of my favorite all time movies FOR SURE!

One thing I like about this scene is if you think about it in a different viewpoint. They never really specified if he liked Charity ever since they were kids. He could’ve loved her but not in the way he loved her when he got older. That could’ve just been his best friend. Her letters could’ve saved him in the bad times. Over time it could’ve just came to him that he loved her and that there was no one else in the world who made him feel the way he does when he’s with her. So listening to this song in that viewpoint kinda just makes it more, magical.

Is no one gonna talk about the dad of young Phineas? It was so sad to see him having to have such a low job such as fixing Charity’s dads clothes for a living..Phineas even talks later in the movie about how him AND his dad were both discriminated, and his dad worked so hard to help Phineas grow up with at least some clothes, shelter, and food. It made me tear up when I saw that his dad had become sick and passed away.

Watching this in 2020 and it brings me to tears. I get crap everyday from everyone about how I have no money to get married and how I can't do anything because I have all these bills but want to chase my dream and my parents, fiancé, family, and friends just tell me over and over I can't do it. I started KZread but stopped for that reason. This song gives me hope. I hold on to this song because it actually makes me feel like I can make it one day. Some people still won't get it. But this song means so much to me. I'm a huge dreamer and this songs helps me believe that one day my dreams will come true..

This scene not only give us the roots for both characters, but also, in such short time, everything we need to know about them : their passion, their determination to stay together no matter the differences, to hold to their dreams, the love... It reminds me of the first 10 minutes of Up from Pixar. In a very short time, you can have such an impact, and this movie is just full of it ! I love it so so much !
