The Greatest Rock Vocal Performance I've Ever Seen | Dio | Rainbow | Mistreated | Ken Tamplin Reacts
I had never seen today’s performance of “Mistreated” by Dio but man am I glad I finally did.
Dio brings it down at a whole other level and dare I say performs the tune better than the original and better than any of the live versions I’ve heard from Coverdale or Glenn Hughes.
Originally written by David Coverdale with fellow Deep Purple band member Ritchie Blackmore, “Mistreated” was released on their album Burn released in 1974.
It was actually the only song on the album where Coverdale sang the entire tune by himself.
When Blackmore ended up leaving Deep Purple to pursue other interests, he teamed up with Dio to form the band Rainbow.
As part of Rainbow, Dio put out this version of the same tune and this particular performance was done in 1977 at concert in Munich for a live album they put out.
I hope you enjoy today’s video and I look forward to hearing what you thought of the performance!

I've read he played French horn. My father played this instrument when he was young as others of the same family (trumpets etc), he told me that if you want to play for hours without being exhausted, especially if you're playing a big instrument, you have to master this diaphragm technique, that in fact teach how to breathe properly. And that is a basics of singing too...

Dio just uses his chest mix but it always gives me the impression that he hits his extremely high notes in a chest voice, I can't feel any peak vibrations in his head on this version of Mistreated and that's really impressive, plus his fantastic breathing support , he has a lot of resistance and a lot of compression in his voice and that obviously allows him to hit those notes in that register with some ease; That sustained G5 that he hits in the song Wild One in the studio version, I'm sure he hit that note in pure chest voice and he demonstrates to master the larynx with technical excellence, when executing the note his throat is wide open and projected with high level of distortion and you can't see any peak of vibration in the head, it was impressive that he hit that G5 in a chest voice in my opinion and for many it is considered almost impossible for male singers.

I just love how you're casually sitting there hitting those sounds. I'm so glad I got your course 3 and a half weeks ago. I've been doing the course for at least an hour a day 6 days a week like the good good boy I am and I am officially in love with your course. I had been singing and screaming for four years prior to getting the course. I never got past a (pretty strained) F#4 in chest voice. But today while doing the inverted LAH scale I got up to a Bb4. Obviously it's not usable in context yet, but I HIT A Bb4! WITHOUT STRAINING! Can't wait to get back to the vocal workouts tomorrow. Cheers from Germany!

I've seen thousands of bands and singers in my lifetime, many of the greatest, but Do will always standout with the power of his voice, control and his theatrical presence.By the way I believe You could easily hold your own on any of his music.Thanx again all the best, PEACE BrO!!!!

One of my favorite songs sung by Dio. I first heard this a couple of decades back and was awe struck ( still am in fact ). I saw Dio on the Heaven And Hell tour with Sabbath in 80 then again for the Mob Rules tour, Sabbath and four or five more times on his solo projects. Once with a very new and unknown Queensryche who only had a four song record out at the time. I heard " Queen Of The Ryche" while driving way back when by this " new band out of Seattle " as they were described... Ken, I was so devastated by Tates voice I had to pull over to listen, I couldn't concentrate on driving and listening at the same time ( it may have saved lives I might add ). I love Coverdales version too. But Dio nails this song for sure ......

Jorn is the bastard child of Dio and Coverdale. I believe he started in The Company of Snakes and sung a few Coverdale songs. The man is a powerhouse although saw him live with Avantasia back in April and felt he had lost a bit of the old power.

I saw this tour, it was for the Long Live Rock n Roll album, I was always a big Purple and Rainbow fan but the first number was Kill the King and this little fella walked on and just nailed everyone to the wall, I have never seen effortless power like that before or since, and that Includes Coverdale, Gillan, Lou Gramm, even Paul Rodgers, Glenn Hughes is amazing life but maybe overdoes the screams a little. But wonderful, memories to have.

There is a video of a young guy that sang Neon nights with Queensryche in Chicago about ten years ago.
