Hang on, so PH makes the most nuanced correct GTO play with the exact combo he holds. If that’s not magic, what is!
@Dswelli23

I think the problem is that he's imbalanced, if PH was known for making these nuanced plays Doug would have had a harder time hero-folding in this spot. Because PH is so nitty he made Doug's decision rather easy.

@@Dswelli23 Not really tho since the solver obviously balances this shove and still thinks T7 should fold against it.
There are no words to express how hilarious this video is ! Sir, you are a brilliant human being. 🤣 Greetings from France
So funny how you referenced Phil identifying player classifications and says “When a mouse raises, you can just fold your top 10 hands” as you circle back to Doug’s fold to Phil’s raise, lol!
@alakazaam4292

Bro that killed me how tf does Phil talk up being a “mouse” so much and say that’s what he’s teaching the viewer to be then says “when a mouse raises you fold”
What if you called the show Polker Hands?
The mouse, literally all these other animal's prey. I'm going to teach you how to be that. XD
What does the solver say to do when a muppet starts talking about how he could have the blockers?
Finding equilibrium is the end boss of wit.
What a strange line. Solver says we can only jam nuts here, and then says opponent can only call with the nuts here (and not even all the nut combos). Feels counterintuitive.
The opening line of this video is just brilliant "we are reviewing an epic hand from the shit show known as high stakes poker where shadowy figures from the underworld gather to lander their money". I die everytime!
The overlay of the guy explaining his exact moves on the current hand was brilliant
LMAO! This is incredible. Bro you must be one of the best poker players in the world that none of us know! Amazing work as always! Please release GTOx!!

If by "sloppy" you mean "giving up a tiny bit of GTO equity so that you get to play a hand against idiots AND by giving action, increase your chances of getting invited back to play against more idiots" then you are correct.

Range Wilson I think that this is a totally fair point and would apply to many pro players in a splashy/fishy private game environment, but I think it applies much less to Doug who is on record as saying he doesn’t enjoy poker anymore or have much urge to play (probably doesn’t care if he’s invited back) and also consistently tries to play a balanced GTO style pretty much regardless of environment and encourages others to try and do the same. He’s also Doug Polk and this is a TV show. He could probably play 12/10/3 and be a boring mute for a sesh or two, and still get called back in to play. I think it’s much more likely the case that Doug is not as studied in multi-way BB defend ring ranges (why would he be?, this isn’t his format) and is quite used to defending very wide from all the HU in his life and in recent months. And perhaps some amount of, “I’m playing with idiots and can probably make up some EV post” as you’ve pointed out, but idk T7o is just so bad MW OOP, regardless of the okay price you’re getting.

So Phil's play is in fact perfect given the situation, this is surprising, as Doug was saying it is horrible -- because the button and himself have more QT in their range than Phil, and I thought Doug was right; just shows you how complicated poker is. Good video bro!
In the spirit of "out of the ordinary" of hands, could you analyze some of the hands played by Garret and Andy at LATB? Specifically, I wonder about 2 questions: 1) just how far are they deviating from a balanced strategy, thereby exposing themselves to various exploits? 2) we know these are great live players, what dynamics in a live game with weaker players might justify these out of the ordinary lines?
Wow I didn't think 8x raising pot was a strat there !!

@@justmusic2353 yep free-rolling vs other QT combos and well there's a lot of scare turns that can slow down the action; plus our shove looks very polarized - which could cause some bad calls thinking why would we shove nuts there and assuming we must have some key blockers or some sort of strong combo draw blocking key cards -- that being said vs a mouse that loves to raise flops to figure out where they're at; obvi we snap w/the 10-7.

Is the solver output shove for heads up or multi-way? And how many BB is the sim assuming?
@FindingEquilibrium
3 жыл бұрын
Multiway using exact bet and stack sizes. I also used 6max 200bb preflop ranges but had to add some marginal hands with 25% frequency to Doug's BB calling range since 107o was not included in the GTO range. Preflop sim includes rake, but Phil opened bigger than the preflop range, so perhaps these effects evened out somewhat.

I wonder how can a value bet shove be solver approved if it makes the 2nd nuts correctly fold.... (of course, I can understand why, since it has 0 draw equity compared to AsTs and sets, it seems just so counterintuitive)

Look at the massive equity hands like KQ of spades or 67 of spades. What are you doing with a set of 8? The jam puts these hands in a tough spot. The problem with this line, there's no balance. If Phil is jamming some ace ten of spades, JJ, 99, once In a while, then the jam is fine.
Yaaaaaaaaas!
and that's enough, no need to finish the hand.
I’m so happy to see the solver shoving this combo 98% of the time!! I recently thought to myself the shove was not that bad and something I might have done myself, then I saw doug polks explaining how bad it was. And doug has taught me a lot about poker so I respect him a lot. Needless to say I was pretty disappointed at myself. My reasoning for this combo to be a shove is because he holds the Q of spade. Against every other Q10 combo this combo will be free rolling a backdoor flush draw, winning 4% of the time against the nuts! And chopping the rest.
@justmusic2353
3 жыл бұрын
Also denying equity from sets, 2 pairs, and strong draws like Ks10s (12 outs because it also wins on a Q turned). And the benefit of realizing all your equity that u might not be able to on many bad turns cards like all spades, Qs, and boats. There’s like 21 cards that you don’t want to see on the turn so not playing by shoving is also pretty neat
@Matiaza
