Academics of history does not work that way. Multiple sources and lots of skepticism is involved. We can talk about what constitute “great” sure, but the multiple disciplines who deliberate on what is history does not go by propaganda, alone. R2 stoped the “sea peoples”, a good thing at the time.

Christian Jacq has made a series of books in novel form, from the youth of Ramses until his death. He is an Egyptologist, the books are full of details of what life was like at that time.

Thanks for the great overview. It seems that it wasn't really necessary for Ramesses to carve his own cartouche onto the statues and buildings of his predecessors, as his own achievements ended up outshining them all. He's ancient Egypt's overachiever.

@@fardeenhasan7474 I hear that quite a bit but actually all mummies have natron, a type of mineral salt that is used to dry out bodies for mummification. There is no particular salt from the sea found in his body. Many organs, including the lungs, are removed from the body during the process of mummification - they are placed in jars beside the body and therefore don’t really stay preserved. I don’t blame you for thinking that his body was full of sea salt or that he was found in the sea. These things are often repeated over the internet but they are just not accurate or true.

Ancient Egypt is one of the most difficult topic in World History, it is really vague and so many names and Gods' are involved. Thank you for your vids it helps a lot.

Ancient Egypt/Khemet (it was only started to be called Egypt after Alexander of Macedonia took the kingdom) was conquered by many of the surrounding kingdoms over it's 3 000 years existence. So it would stand to reason that the kingdom would be made up of people who could trace their ancestry to multiple ethnic groups from Africa, the Mediterranean area and the Middle East. Placing modern concepts of race on an ancient kingdom like Egypt/Khemet isn't reasonable.

In the movie the ten commandments Ramesses II is shown as an arrogant, pompous ass who is undone by his own hubris. His flaws notwithstanding he is the pharaoh of all pharaohs, the one who shaped his time like no other and the one we remember. Almost as famous as his contemporary Moses in his own right.

Saw Rameses II when in Charlotte. Fascinating and Charleton Heston.. Could not begin to describe it

He knew that once he ascended to the afterlife, Egypt would be in trouble without his leadership so he made it his sworn duty to crush as many of his enemies as possible so that his people could live peacefully and prosper after his death. Unfortunately this faltered when later pharaohs proved to be weak and ineffective eventually leading to the collapse of the Egyptian kingdom thus paving the way for the Greek Ptolemaic Dynasty.

Also, many think that Marcus and Cleopatra were lovers but this has since been disproven, Marcus Antonius was a spy for Caesar and only wanted to seduce The Queen Of The Nile for military secrets, he was partly responsible for her demise in truth.

No, Ramesses III was the last great Pharaoh. He saved Egypt from the sea peoples and made great construction projects ,like Medinet Habu.

Most of his 'construction projects' really just entailed him erasing the name of a previous pharaoh from a monument and chiseling his name over it. Also, Ramesses III was murdered by one of his minor wives so she could put her son by Ramesses on the throne.

@@monadsingleton9324 Ramesses III in My opinion definitely deserves more credit for being Egypt’s last great ruler in my opinion he is the only one of the Ramesside kings to have ever come lose to matching the achievements of Ramesses II I mean Ramesses III literally fought off a large scale invasion from the Sea people which was both a land battle and a navel battle he also fought off at least Two Libyan Invasions and if you done the research Ramesses III also revamped many of the Temples in Egypt and gave major donations to them as well he also began the construction of A temple to Khonsu In the prentice of Karnak Temple as well as the construction of his own mortuary temple Medinet habu and when you say that Ramesses III reign entailed him erasing the name of a previous pharaoh from a monument that’s actually more like what Ramesses II did during his Reign in fact one of the many titles that Egyptologist give Ramesses II is the The Great chiseler I mean Ramesses II Is known to have had parts of his fathers temple in abydos walled off so that he could have more space to stamp and carve his name and image in fact many of the statues credited to Ramesses II where actually usurped from other 12th dynasty Pharaohs as well as a few of the statues where also usurped from Amenhotep III

The wealthiest and mightiest of all pharaohs but like Pepi II a millenia before he ruled far too long. With his descendants being old when they came to power Egypt entered in a period of political crisis until the ascension of the 20th dynasty.

@@muhubobulhan6318 Didn't he live to be 90? Most Egyptologists that I've read put him in his 80s. I saw a documentary long ago that placed the cause of his death on a tooth infection that spread into his jaw and face. No antibiotics, no chance. If true, his death was pure agony.

The true biblical Egyptians and the 12 tribes of Israel were black people. the black people in western, central, south, and east Africa. The Sherden are an interesting group, just one part of the multitude that was the Sea Peoples. I wonder if they really did originate as pirates from Sardinia, a sort of Bronze Age Vikings, or whether they originally came from another land and finally settled on Sardinia as a home after their wanderings as part of the Sea Peoples. Then again it could be a simple coincidence as far as the etymology goes - land of the Sherden - Sherdinia = Sardinia.

Nefertari was allegedly very active in the political sphere as well. She corresponded directly with Pudahepa, queen of the Hittites, and following the Kadesh peace treaty helped to arrange Ramses’ marriage to one of Pudahepa’s daughters.

4.24 - Ramses account of the battle at Kadesh against the Hittites apparently exaggerated amazes me how modern day scholars found out the truth, you gotta wonder how it is possible

Another fantastic video. The story of the Egyptian-Hittite Treaty is so sad to me. They promised each other the world, but in the end when the wolves were at the Hittites' door, Egypt wasn't in a position to help. I'll always wonder whether Ramesses III would have sent help if he could.

The Ittite empire destroyed itself, together with famine, no one else was involved. They did sent request for food to Egypt, in desperation. They lived in a harsh land prone to crop failure, to this days nobody lives there.

Actually, Egypt did send food aid to the Hittite empire. The support was not enough to save the Hittites.
