My orchestra teacher had a really old violin that broke but you can put it together so it can stay a little so everybody was taking and then he said “IM SO SICK AND TIERED OF THIS TALKING” then picked up the broken violin and ‘broke it in two’ he whole room was silent for like 3 minutes till he screamed APRIL FOOLS

I am probably your concertmaster's age, and I have to say that it's one of the BEST April Fool's jokes I've ever seen! When the violin went flying, I cringed, thought maybe someone ought to get a "real" grown-up (as I thought he was throwing a real two-year-old sort of tantrum), and began to plan the violin's funeral with full 21 gun salute in honor of its untimely death. Great job, guys!

Reminds me of senior year choir... One of the girls who played the piano had found a few old piano parts & brought in a few old keys and told us what she wanted to do. Our teacher got up in front of the room & got us all settled in then started us off with the usual request for the piano players to "Give me a C" The girl with the old piano keys got up and, without a word, walked halfway across the room and handed one of the keys to our puzzled teacher. It took a moment for her to recognize what she'd just been handed, and then the panic set in. We all had a grand old time that morning... (even the teacher appreciated the joke... MUCH later...) :-)

BritishTexan my HS class, 1974 had such a director. He was Mr Rauso, and directed marching band (We were terrific- much better than the actual football team!) and orchestra and on stage band, and even a Jazz band. Years after I left high school, I realized the PATIENCE, dedication and humor that good music teachers have....By the way, a guy named Rich and I carried the French horn section for like, over 5 years and he and I both now have hearing loss- nothing serious, and we don't know if all those rehearsals contributed....maybe?

I believe the modern conductor's baton developed from a huge cane that the conductor used to tap on the ground to give the beat (16th or 17th century). Maybe I am the victim of another april fool's joke, though. Anybody know better?
