The Greatest Mysteries of Humanity: Werewolves | Full Documentary

Ойын-сауық

What’s truly behind the mystery of werewolves? Scientists continue to investigate both centuries-old cases and modern-day sightings. In fact, they are still searching for answers to a mysterious 18th-century killing spree involving a beast that supposedly slays like an animal, but also acts just like a human. Could it be a werewolf?

    It's attacking women and children, some are naked and beheaded... sound's like a typical modern day human serial killer going after typical prey and doing typical horrific atrocities to their prey.

    I 100% believe the Wisconsin DNA Officer’s account of his encounter with a very large, aggressive and unidentifiable beast. His testimony was very credible -with no embellishments ( and he did exactly what 99% of us would have done in a similar situation : Hit the gas, to get as far away from it as he could :)

    @@gregrowell8688why paranormal? More like supernatural. There are a few news stories on here that you can find about a girl that was killed. They say it must of been from multiple dogs but the few that saw her wounds believe it was a very large dog. There’s been multiple sightings of the dogman in the area.

    It took me 20 seconds to realize the killer was probably some crazy serial killer man, and not a werewolf.

    Yeah, I agree. That's a pretty common theory these days and probably the correct one. You're gonna have serial killers and/or cannibals, feral humans, perhaps some occassionally freaky huge individual wolves like we sometimes have huge humans. It may be a primitive ancestoral memory back to our days with dire wolves and continual retelling of those stories made them a monster that we've never been able to forget. Maybe some serial killers probably even wore the skins of animals to disguise themselves and if seen at a distance, would appear to be a real animal. It wouldn't be the first time humans mistook a disguise for something real, such as that Bigfoot footage. I think serial killers are probably the most likely scenario because there have been instances of families surviving on cannabilism almost completely until they are caught. The most famous western case is the Scottish "Sawney Bean" (hopefully no relation to Sean! XD) and they basically eschewed normal life and did the whole "keep it in the family and eat the people who aren't" and that's partly where the "cannibal hicks in the woods" horror story comes from. They were the old Scottish version of that, but it actually happened. He and his family were eventually caught and executed (I believe all the children were adults and still chose to keep that lifestyle) and then he became a sort of Scottish boogeyman to scare kids to keep them out of the forests or going off alone. This happened in the 1500s and he already has bocame a semi-mythical figure. It doesn't take long, so it's not surprising that a particuarly horrible person or group had an influence for hundreds of years, if not thousands.

    Back in the 17th and 18th century, it was pretty common for French aristocrats to import exotic animals from all over the world, but from Africa mostly. So, it is quite possible that some aristocrat imported a lion or a hyena and trained it to attack people. Which would explain a lot (selective victims, descriptions etc), but mainly how some witnesses saw a man with it. After it got "too hot" or the animal died cos it wasn't in its natural habitat, the aristocrat would have decided to end the story and, let's say pay his servant to kill something and that would be it.

    I agree. According to some of the witnesses that described the animal(s) that seems like the most likely scenario. I believe there were more than one animal doing the attacks. My guess is it was probably a young male lion, a wolf, and a wolf/dog hybrid. Because some of the witnesses sound like they are describing different animals. I absolutely think that one of the animals, more than likely either the young male lion or the wolf/dog hybrid, was under human control taking orders from its human master. Just my theory. Great Documentary!

  • @LotusStitchandSketch

    @LotusStitchandSketch

    @@daystar4058 I agree, I don't think only one animal could be responsible for that many attacks over so large an area. Even IF a wolf was involved, wolves are much smarter than we often give them credit for being, but also even if it was a lone wolf a healthy wolf is not usually going to go out of its way to attack people UNLESS it's being provoked and I'm also skeptical about it being a rabid wolf due to the fact that it's always either a young girl or a woman. An animal with rabies in my experience doesn't discriminate between adults and children nor do they discriminate between genders they attack EVERYONE/THING. I think either multiple animals were involved or it was a very prolific serial killer.

    I guess in some way, yes, but hundreds of years ago it was the best thing they could come up with. The power of myth is very powerful (we could point to certain religions enduring despite many of the disproven mythos) and Europe, before the conquest the normans and especially those of Celtic descent (so a lot of Germans, Gauls, Brittanic, Gaelic) had an extremely superstitious cultures from what we can tell, and in Europe the people were the descendants of those cultures and many continued to be so and are to this day, but the younger adults don't appear to be that way.
