The Greatest Major League Baseball Game Never Played

Спорт

Jack Buck and Lindsey Nelson call a simulated game in 1982 between some of baseball's greatest players. This is a record album synced to video.
The Greatest Baseball Game Never Played was a 1982 simulated broadcast of a hypothetical baseball game between all-time Major League Baseball greats. The broadcast was aired on 200 radio stations in the United States and Canada and also released as a record album.
It was announced by Jack Buck and Lindsey Nelson and set in Philadelphia's Shibe Park. Following the format of the All-Star Game, it featured National League players against players from the American League.
The Greatest Game Never Played documents the perception of who the greatest players were seventeen years before the selection of the Major League Baseball All-Century Team. All of the players in both starting lineups made the All-Century team except for American League shortstop Phil Rizzuto, as the 1980s saw the emergence of several all-time great shortstops: Cal Ripken Jr., Ozzie Smith, and Robin Yount.
This is a fan edit, set to video, with added appearances by Marty Brennaman, Jack Brickhouse, Harry Caray, Joe Nuxhall, Vin Scully, Jon Miller, Ken Griffey Jr., Rod Serling and Chip Caray.
Some of the original audio was removed to keep from spoiling the outcome. There is an explanation about this game and interviews with a couple of the people involved in creating it that was originally toward the beginning but was moved to the end because I didn't think many people would stick around through 4 minutes of mostly text.

I remember being 8 years old listening to this with my mom and falling asleep. She recorded the entire game on cassette! It was such a cool event at the time.

I recently found all three cassettes that my mother stayed up and recorded when this was originally broadcast. I have the entire game I'm going to be transferring it this year and uploading.

I have the entire game on cassette and I own an unopened copy of the record album as well. When this aired live I was 12 and I was all in. It was awesome for it's time. Nowadays it's no big deal for a computer simulation game to take place.

Any chance you could upload the entire broadcast? I taped it off the radio too back in the day but those cassettes are long gone.

@marks.8969 I taped it off the radio back then and also lost the tapes. I searched for years to find it. Finally found a guy in Indiana back in 2001 or so that had it recorded on reel to reel and he ran me a dub to cassette for $100.00. I will try to upload, but not sure I possess the tech to convert from tape to digital.

@@DicedOnionWarrior I took some old cassettes of mine to a place in town and they converted them to digital for me. I don’t remember it being too pricey.

This is wonderful but I have 1 complaint: Reggie Jackson over mickey mantle?

Glad you liked it. They sure seemed to like running lefties up against lefties for some reason. I think the AL ran like 7 in a row against Koufax which wouldn’t be my first choice. The fans voted for that and I guess they were right. But I’m with you. Reggie got lucky. I’d much rather go with Mantle from the right side against Spahn.

And the big deal about Speaker’s defense was that he played so close to 2nd that he got like 450 unassisted double plays by beating the guy back, on foot. Then he nearly has a ball go over his head and can’t make a good throw to 3rd in this game. Maybe Mickey gets the assist there?
