It is also really a testament to the time in which drivers don't or can't put 100% of their focus and commitment on racing anymore. Schumacher, Vettel and quite a few others have experienced that. Where they can no longer take those risks as they have to devote more and more of their time to family.

This race is why so many older fans grew... _disappointed_ with Kimi, later in his "second career" in F1. We knew what he was capable of, we'd seen him pull off awesome moves and win "unwinnable" races (like this one), but he lost his spark and often seemed like he was just going through the motions. It was sad because he'd been so exciting! I blame Ferrari for at least some of the change; turning him into a number 2 driver, when had they let him loose, he might well have regained that spark and won a number of races. I just hope he's having fun in the USA 🤷🏻‍♀️

As a Kimi fan, I dont think I am disappointed with Kimi. He spent most of his career at Ferrari, which never prioritized Kimi at everything. In most cases, it is one of the reason why they have not been champions yet since Kimi. Had they prioritized Kimi over Massa at 2008, I think they would have clearer shot at winning the championship. And no, I dont think he lost his sparks. Look at his Lotus era, his Alfa Romeo era, he still had that touch and still crazy behind the wheel.

It was a dry race, no red flags, no changeable condition, on a track that was pretty difficult to pass. That means Kimi would not be able to pass ten cars at a time by getting into the pit at the right moment. It was pure pace, lap after lap after lap, then a magnificent pass in the end. Like Allen said. Grand Prix racing at its very best.

To those who despair at any "meaningful" racing being over with a title decided early, this race alone is proof that it doesn't matter if a title is decided early. It was a thrilling, edge of seat race that came down to one of the most exhilarating overtakes in F1 history on the very last lap. Even though I wasn't rooting for any driver at that point, I was cheering loudly when Raikkonen overtook Fisichella on the outside at turn 1. I'll stick my neck out and say that in scenarios where the championship was decided early, due to the pressure being off the drivers, the racing, if anything, can be better. This certainly was!

yea we saw in 2020 how even though Hamilton wrapped up the title, the fact that we had chaotic incidents in many races, everyone behind the Mercs and Verstappen having inconsistent pace, so many drivers getting podiums, that insane Sakhir GP, 2020 Abu Dhabi being Race 0 of Verstappen's era. Likewise, 2022 saw an incredible Brazilian GP with so much going on after Verstappen wrapped up the title. I don't know what happened with the tires between 2005-2012 but we had so many great races back then (even though we hopped between Michelin, Bridgestone, Pirelli)

@@corpsecoder_nw6746if you ask me, the tyre situation stemmed from a freak occurrence in Canada 2010. After the normally robust Bridgestone tyres were discovered to be wearing much faster than usual, resulting in an interesting race of strategy and tyre management, the FIA and others jumped at the chance to achieve the same thing. They mandated new tyre supplier for 2011, Pirelli, to create tyres that thermally degraded much faster than the Bridgestone tyres did. The problem is, with it becoming a frequent occurrence, F1 teams got round this by conserving the rubber, minimising the amount of stops as they could, to overall finish races more quickly

Basically, what was needed to get an actual good race from 2005 was to have an inverted grid. Still, absolutely phenomenal race that everyone should watch at least once on their life. And also one that shows just how much Kimi fell off compared to Alonso, nobody at that time would ever hope to imagine that he'd get his points tripled by Alonso if they were to become teammates.

This was my very first F1 race to watch. Watching Kimi stalking Fisichella was breathtaking, each lap bringing him closer and closer but then was the pass possible? Oh yeah! When he did I became an F1 fan until F1 management and the stewards so outrageously engineered who was going to win in 2021.

Josh is right here, add to the fact Kimi made up that time in the last stint where both guys had the same tyre life, same fuel load. It was just absolute display of flat out racing ever seen in f1. We don't get to see such racing anymore. There was no drs either. There was no artificial tyre offset. One of the best races ever F1 has produced.

Overtaking without DRS and, oh my God, not on the straight, but at the outside of the 130R? This is heresy! What kind of not dull looking F1 this is supposed to be?! All joking aside, back then we took such overtaking for granted, now we have to settle for drivers pushing other drivers off the track and overtaking in the DRS zones.
