A under rated touch I always liked about NCAA is games that weren't nationally televised had no commentary. Just the stadium play by play. Really gave you the in stadium feel.

It actually made it so worth it to start at a small college. I always picked Texas Southern and recruited 3* athletes I could change positions with(6'5 CBs FTW) until we got them added to the SEC eventually. Conference realignments was fun

And if you mismanaged your discipline points, you’d have no choice but to not suspend your player, and then the NCAA takes interest in your school. Grab too much interest, and your school could face loss of scholarships, transfers of good players, Bowl bans, or even getting fired.

Texas with Young, USC with Bush/ Leinart, Michigan with Henne/ Hart, Notre Dame with Quinn/ Samardzija, uCLA with MoJo and Marcedes, Ohio with Ted Ginn/ Santonio/ Aj Hawk, OU with Peterson the iconic players were just unmatched. The crowd pump feature had so much pressure and the icon players had just the right amount of OP. For what it wanted to be it was perfect. I can almost smell the pot and dominos as we played the shit out of this in the dorms.

I just miss the crowd meter. I also miss finding my local D-1aa colleges in the game and not just finding FBS West on 2014 with just a snake 🐍 logo or whatever goofy reptile logo they can find.

I remember I had just got a summer job when this came out. I was in high school and saved up to buy this. Played it non stop all summer and well into the actual season. It was even more befitting seeing usc vs texas in the title game that year. Never even moved from the TV lol. Greatest championship game ever.

I just graduated before this came out and it's why I had to keep my og xbox just for this game. I have almost all of the ncaa and this still seems like the best. I love that you have classic and all time teams available to play with on play now. No ultimate team paywalls, just a good time with a ton of free features

Savage Patch Basically. I never enjoyed the Heisman setting because EA can’t ever stop EA’Ing and it would devolve in to a “jumping ten feet to pick off your pass” BS but a step lower and and you had a game for your ass! Oh and it was kinda neat, ya know, to have pocket passers lol it seems like most games afterwards were “if you can’t scramble you’re screwed”.

I’ve had to replace my console a couple of times but this game makes it all worthwhile

I had an EPIC Dynasty in NCAA 06, starting with Temple and ending with a run where I took over a 7-5 Michigan team and turned them into a national powerhouse. It's just the gratification in the NCAA games that sets it apart. There is no thrill like having your HB rush for like, 250 yards in a rivalry game or having a WR come down with an impossible catch on a last-second play, or drilling a game-winning FG in a National Championship game. Seeing those prestige stars rise from season to season, securing absolutely ridiculous recruiting classes. There's just a magic about NCAA Football that makes it SO FUCKING ADDICTING once you get a good Dynasty going. I came back to tell you guys about a Tackle I recruited, his name was Gerald McPherson. He was a 5-star recruit out of Jersey or Ohio, I had him at Michigan, he was 6'5", I forget what he weighed, but at the end of his career, you could call him the greatest collegiate tackle of all time. He won OL of the year THREE TIMES, helped win a National Championship with multiple Big 10 titles, he was a 92, 97, 99 OVR over his last three years. I was backed up against my own 1, and thought, well, I'm going to run it behind McPherson because it's a guaranteed 4-5 yards, I ended up busting a 99 yard house call because of my ridiculous O-line. Madden on the PS2 was just as fun at times, but in Madden, you can go 10-6 and still have a shot at the Super Bowl. In NCAA, you HAVE to go 11-1 or better to have a chance at the Natty. There is NOTHING like really putting together some good years in NCAA. To have a HB that just an absolute game-breaker putting the offense on his back as he charges towards the Heisman, averaging something stupid like 130-140 yards a game is fucking EXHILARATING because most often you work your way up from a Temple, a FIU, SDSU etc. it really gives the big stadiums and historical match-ups some gravity once you make it to the SEC or Big 10. Again, recruiting is just so much fucking fun. To look at your D and notice that the weakest starter is like, an 85 and then just have that team rip offenses apart is so, damn good. NCAA 06 forever.

Great post & read.. Ur gonna remember Gerald McPherson forwever lol.. My forever memory from a prospect was actually in Madden 2004 or 05 on PC. I drafted a MLB who ended up having a 94 speed and 88 agility. His name was ' Something Black" and as usual for me in madden i only played 2 seasons then got bored & restarted but i remember him prgressing to a 87 after being a 83 or 94 ovr rookie from late 1st round.. Dude was super fast like a younger London Fletcher and would dominate... ~I was playing NCAA 2009 ps2 and did a OLB CampusLegend/Superstar and it is hard af n defense & so easy to blow the play and they score.. I then put 201(tebow) on Xbox360 & sure it looks better but the gameplay was smoother on 2009 imo.. **Just got 2006 but havent played it yet.... I always play a crappy team as playing a elite school is pretty cheese.. Schools like Purdue or Connecticut or SMU are more fun to earn ur rank.. Sucks for recruiting as even a 4 star in 1st season is kinda impossible.. **They should have it so 3 or 4 higher ranked prospects want to play for home team... ive never once gotten a 5 star recruit in any ncaa year (/shame) gonna try 2012 +2013 at some point since 2014 is always $50 or more.. I'll find 14 eventually...

Bro this was my teenage years to a T. 23-4 in 2 years at Tulsa then a monster run with 4 NCs at Baylor. Loved this game.

06 will always be my favorite. It had classic teams to use as well plus there were a lot of great teams in 2005. I'm a WVU fan so Dynasty is even better with a freshman Pat White, Steve Slaton and Owen Schmitt

This game really supports to every college football fan (HBCU alumni of GSU I thought you knew) being able to have all of the divisions of schools and having a chance to add them in dynasty mode is incredible! Being able to build the program over the seasons and win a title is something you can do only do NCAA 06. The AI on this game is truly ahead of its time! Still play to this day on original xbox & 360

I actually liked NCAA 05 better...the home field advantage on Heisman is insane

Can't remember if this was in 06 but it's something small you may have left out was there was a feature with hit sticking where if you hit stick someone enough they would essentially hear footsteps and drop passes or fumble more. Only impact players could do I believe but I remember it was a small thing that added such a nice bit of depth.

There was always something that just didn’t feel right with the 360 era college football games to this one. I had fun playing them but it always felt like something was “off”. And after going back and playing 06 I realized for me what it was. Ncaa 06 and a lot of the play station 2 games did a great job of creating a college football world that I was just one small part of. I always went into the sports illustrated section of dynasty mode to get a recap of what the big news was from that previous week and what big matchups were coming up. Also while in game you could get a ticker of the other games in the pause menu to see scores around the nation. They did ad that in later games as well on the next gen to be fair but idk it just was more authentic on those earlier games. It was also a lot harder to win a national championship. I always considered myself a good player but sometimes things for whatever reason didn’t go right during a particular game and I would lose. In the next gen I basically became a god would always win 9 out of 10 championships and it would get old. Ncaa 06 is one of the best sports games ever made. They just don’t make them like they used to anymore

It's the last one, most up to date. The dynasty mode was still pretty deep, the on field stuff was pretty solid and it was physics driven, madden's animation driven gameplay wasnt there yet. A lot more people still have their 360/ps3, not as many folks have working ps2s or OG xbox

My twin brother and I played this game FOREVER. We created a season where he managed the Miami Hurricanes and I managed the Florida State Seminoles. We competed for conference and national titles and we competed against each other for the best recruits in the nation. So many hours were spent recruiting. The greatest college football game of all-time.

I spent so much time doing new Race for the Heisman's and creating new football teams. Absolutely loved this game and this video brings back many memories!

Thank You for the reminder of how good this game was. At the time I think we all took this game for granted considering the lacking of detail that we have now in Madden. Awesome video 👍

I just subscribed to this channel and it's awesome, video presentation is great and the content is what me as sports fan wants to hear and talk about. All this aside I just got ncaa 06 bc it was the only one I could find for ps2 at the classic game store. The gameplay is smooth and honestly the A.I. plays better which makes Dynasty mode feel harder more authentic.

Great breakdown. One of my favorite things about this game is that you can Play the non user games in Dynasty. This adds even more immersion to Dynasty. You can even select their uniforms. I always like to pick a few games each week outside of my own to play.

Same. This game had a strange soundtrack, but somehow it nailed the atmosphere of the game perfectly. It hit the notes of 90s nostalgia and your local college radio channel. The soundtrack still resonates 15 years later. I’ll always hold onto my copy of NCAA 06.

It's funny i actual heard the song on the radio years later and it sounded different than ncaa. i didnt know ncaa version took out some lyrics that i guess they found offensive.

One of my top 5 video games of any genre all time. The introduction to Impact Players, the rosters with guys like Reggie Bush and Vince Young to the historical teams of the past being available, the SOUNDTRACK that introduced me to artists and bands who ended up becoming favorites of mine (I was 11 when it came out so discovering throw back music through this game had a huge impact on my music tastes going forward). The highlights on the main screen, I'd just watch them loop over and over again while jamming to the music And of course the first Heisman mode that you could transfer your player data to Madden's super star mode.. what a time

I cried remembering how big of a role this game played in my life. Gameplay, soundtrack, and race to the heisman is so nostalgic. Was in 5th grade when this came out and was addicted to the idea of playing college football after playing it. I loved also the feature where you could watch highlights from your career and view your trophies. Incredible this isn’t in today’s games. It’s much more bare bones nowadays

The one that I used the most was Bass Reeves University, which was this brand new university that literally came out of nowhere, and, by the time that the season was over, the team had shattered every single record that was a positive one in the NCAA, which also prompted an investigation into the team, and the university, but the NCAA, as well as its allies, all lost the suit after their claims of drug use by players were found to be false, never mind that BRU had anti-drug, and anti-alcohol, policies, that would make even Christian colleges and universities think that they were harsh. The founder/founding dean had lost a parent due to a person that was both on drugs, as well as was drinking, behind the wheel, and their city, as well as county was filled with corrupt people, before he drove them out, and ditto for the surrounding counties, and it made the area get a lot of jobs, as well as growth, as a result. The point was that the BRU Marshals were simply that good of a team, and they were not under the influence of drugs...basically, think of a combination of the 2000s to 2010s Boise State Broncos teams, the old University of Saint Thomas (Minnesota) Tommies teams, and the Kehres Eras of the University of Mount Union (Ohio) Purple Raiders teams, but better than all of them combined..that is how good that the BRU Marshals were in their first season. The team not only got an immediate invitation to the NCAA Playoffs, but that they also won them as well, as well as a national championship, and then, after Vanderbilt complained on how badly that they were beat by BRU, to say nothing of other teams of the SEC using Vanderbilt as a whipping post, Vanderbilt had enough and told the SEC that they were leaving the SEC for C-USA, effective immediately, as the C-USA would be both fairer to them, as well as would be more even competition for them, and then the SEC invited BRU to take their place...and then, after accepting their offer, BRU ran the table with the SEC, as well as with everyone else, again, and then made even better results in their second season, including being in the NCAA Playoffs, and having another championship season. The records and hardware that BRU was getting was insane...every award that could be achieved by a college or university in football, BRU won.

NCAA 06 and 2k5 was the greatest football game I’d play since I was a kid. As I got older and playing later game to date..it can never hold up to what I experienced. As if I was playing an actual football. It was the only two game I owned.

Haven’t been the same since ‘07. In my opinion I think ‘06 and ‘07 had the smoothest player movement I just like the way they looked while running till this day😌 Now days I feel like they look funny running, they’re some moments that look realistic but they still haven’t figured out that open field run style… it’s frustrating because they’re so close but yet so far from getting that ‘06, ‘07 style of running.

I miss this game so much bro. It was one of the only things I asked for on Christmas that year. Game gave you the best experiences you could ever ask for in a damn football game.

The eclectic soundtrack makes complete sense from the perspective that all those songs and artists first became known way way back in the day on the college radio circuit before becoming mainstream classics.

Man I remember importing my draft classes off 06 on the Madden 06. Damn that’s when Madden and NCAA franchise was on top of their game. Getting recruits and having nothing but 5 stars on your team.😢 When you had a beast on NCAA and they come on Madden as a monster rookie it was so self satisfying .

Having only all FBS recruits in Madden is unrealistic though. I wish there was an option where you can include all FBS and all FCS schools in the draft. NFL legends like Gannon and Rice didn't come from FBS schools.

Heck there were even some NFL players that never went to college though I can't come up with any of them on the top of my head afaik

NCAA 06 depth, with NCAA 14 graphics, and NCAA 11-NCAA 13 gameplay = masterpiece.

I went out today & picked up a old Xbox 360 just to play this game. Can’t wait. NCAA needs to get inline & allow these games to be made again. But again, can anything match NCAA football 2006. Great video , well done. 👍🏼

I grew up on 06 and it’s how I got into the USC Trojans and Iowa Hawkeyes as a kid. Since then I’ve had and still have 07 and play it often. Dynasty with multiple created teams is my go-to for when I play. This video gives me such nostalgia

Not joking. This game actually made me want to go to college. Especially the individual college intros at the beginning of the game. College atmosphere is electric.

The games began to suck AFTER the PS2 gen. Literally every NCAA on PS2 is better than NCAA 14. Not even close.

Didn't they also drop the all time rosters/historic teams starting in that new gen? I think 06 was the last to have it I might be wrong though. They definitely started taking away features and by 14 they were ready to unleash ultimate team on us and had paywalled all of that

One possible thing that can happen in Dynasty Mode (I know for sure in the 06-08 series of the games for PS2, possibly in others) is, if you are at a G5 school and have multiple, not just one or two, years of dominant play (only 0- or 1-loss seasons), and a Power 5 school is struggling, going winless or only winning a game or 2 every year for several years, the conference of that struggling team will come to you and ask you to replace the struggling team, and the struggling team will take your spot in the G5 conference. I just experienced this after my 13th season with Eastern Michigan on NCAA Football 2008. We had just gone 14-0 and Purdue had just gone 0-12, so the first message when I got to the offseason was "The B1G has decided to extend an invitation to Eastern Michigan to replace Purdue for the upcoming season." Then you can either accept or decline it. I am not sure if there is a clear formula for this happening, but that adds an extra dimension to the game, knowing you can start out with a G5, and if the stars align, you could find yourself getting "promoted" to a P5 conference.

I always enjoyed the NCAA Football games more than Madden. The modes just felt more immersive and the environments were alive with energy. Great Video!

Man now I wish I grew up during the 6th Generation of consoles instead I was born the year this came out.

Honestly we are all suffering without a College FB or BB game, they were some of the most fun games by far. Recruiting and cycling a roster, as well as building a program up is incredibly rewarding and addicting. What sucks is all these fun features by EA were removed with newer generation consoles so you have better graphics, Ultimate Team, and nothing else.

NCAA 08 was always my favorite cause I enjoyed the campus legend mode so much I still play it today, and although u don't get to see ur girlfriend there is a student activity u can do that references going on a date.

08 was ruined by the inability to throw over the middle. Super LB’s that you couldn’t alter with sliders.

Not only can you play as historical teams, but I remember how the equipment would change in the time period. I love playing a game with two historical teams that had no face masks and leather equipment.

Your retrospective videos make me want to buy a ps2 and play the games that I was never interested in playing when I was a kid!

I was playing this game when my sons mom went into Labor. I played when he slept, very find memories of the soundtrack. Such a great game. I miss NCAA football and being able to create whatever teams I want.

9:21 Duuuude nostalgia in tact and cherished, I look back like "damn, what a odd combination of tracks" but it REALLY JUST WORKED lmao. The memories flood back, June and July afternoons of creating teams and damn near memorizing all the fight songs and the traditional soundtrack, the Miami Heat just won the championship so south Miami was on fire lmao, good times man.... damn
