Jack Johnson was, in my opinion, the best boxer of his generation. His biggest problem was that he was born in 1878 instead of 1978. Had he been born in 1978, and accomplished successes in boxing, he could be who he was, without harassment and racial animosity. As historian Ken Burns noticed about Jack Johnson, the boxing champion just wanted to live a good, happy life. He married more than once and his wives just happened to be white. This was unacceptable by many in his generation.

I went through blatant racism in school in TX, but I’m still puzzled, why my country has embraced racism for so long and held it so tightly, and never gave us one equal right! Every right received, we had to fight hard for it and, fought equally hard to retain it! Why😢? Will it ever end??

They were both nominated and each won a Tony Award for the play. Tough year. Jones was up against George C. Scott, who won for 'Patton', and also Jack Nicholson ('Five Easy Pieces'), Ryan O'Neal, and Melvin Douglas. Scott was also great, but he never accepted his win because he didn't feel that actors should compete against each other. He certainly was impressive throughout his career as has been James Earl Jones.

He denied the greatest contender, Sam Langford a shot at his belt. They fought 5 times prior and Johnson lost 3. He said that 2 black fighters would not draw any spectators for a championship fight, but in 1909 over 5000 American's traveled to France to watch Joe Jeanette and Sam Mcvey fight. Both black and both considered to be the greatest of heavyweight contenders. FROM WIKIPEDIA: "After Johnson became the first African-American Heavyweight Champion of the World on December 26, 1908, he never again fought Jeanette, despite numerous challenges. Johnson's refusal to fight African-Americans offended the African-American community. Jeanette criticized Johnson, saying, "Jack forgot about his old friends after he became champion and drew the color line against his own people."

I saw this movie when I was a kid. Jack Johnson was his own man. he was brave and didn't give a dam about the racist or the law. he was the heavyweight champion during 1908-1915. it was told every time he fought, black men got lynched because they didn't want no brother being the champion and beaten white men in the ring. it's sad how the system trick him by throwing the fight and given up the championship. he thought he can have the charges dropped. however, they still lock him up anyway. Jack Johnson was the first black heavyweight champion who held it down. he was a goat! them racist knew that he couldn't be beaten.
