Back then a very important element for combat was body armor. The Maltese people undoubtedly fought courageously but the superior armor of the Knights was an important factor to success. This is shown in the chronicle of Snt. Elmo... Mainly Knights and Spanish soldiers were holding the fort. and they kept it standing for a month. This was a strong blow to the Ottoman moral as more than 8000 turks had died. From what I've read...

  • @MinixInt

Actually the body armour was more of an inconvenience at times, especially since this war was fought throughout the summer months. In fact many knights suffered from severe heatstrokes.

Let alone the Heroic Deeds of the Maltese who withstand the Ottoman Invasion in 1565. I was so Impressed by this Person Jean Parisot de Valette . This Guy really made a Difference,a True Hero. The Maltese Had 3 Big Forts,1Fort was taken after Days of Fights. At the Age of 72 ,he took the Front-line,not to being breached, being wounded still held Ground ! And withstood the Attack of one other Forts ! Greetings !

I don't know anything about the sharks but Maltese Toni Bajada is mentioned quite frequentley in the Great Siege of Malta 1565 an eye witness account for his bravery and leader of men. Let us give him and the other Maltese who fought during the Seige the respect they are due.

I don't know where you got your details from but there are no records of Toni Bajada actually engaging in hand to hand combat while swimming across the Grand Harbour. The only hand to hand combat in the sea that took place was in a case close to where the chain was put up. Toni Bajada had to look out for attacks from Kalkara and Mount Schiberras. The trip was often done by boat as well, prior to Dragut's arrival. It was Dragut's idea to attempt to stop the reinforcement of St Elmo.

It was also about not being forced into Mohammedanism. Don't compare your religion to Christians or Catholics, we don't have the Taqiyya, we don't conceal our true beliefs for "fear of prosecution" Then reveal them whilst we push out other religions through violent actions.

Took pity? Malta was the most bombed place on earth from 1940-1942. Malta was briefly occupied by the Arabs from 700 AD until 1000 AD. The Muslim Ottoman Turks invaded Malta in 1565. 40,000 Turks invaded Malta. Four months later, 30,000 Turks were dead and the rest sailed home. Google..... Great Siege of Malta 1565.

Seriously, if you can cite the source do so because it all sounds like a hotchpotch of history to me. That he was a remarkable swimmer and of vital importance to the communication link between St Angelo and the outside world is not disputed, but you really like to spice things up don't you?

Spring to resupply the troops with men, rations and ammo and continue the siege the next year but the Grande Soccorso didnt allow that and fought the remainder of the Ottoman Land Troops back into the fleet till they swam to the fleet and retreated fully. so idk but im thinking dat with total number of troops through most of the siege being round 8,100 with 48,000 attackers they are both quite impressive odds

When have the muslim conquerers ever apologized to the Persians who's country they took and even renamed it to Iran. When have the Copts of Egypt - the original Egyptians ever been apologized to by the muslims who conquered Egypt, Bashir of Sudan has told the Africans to get out of Sudan etc. etc. the list goes on. Comments here tend to demonstrate we have not learned much from History. Fanaticism, wether islamic or christian, leads to strife, bloodshed and massacre. Such battles should be seen for what they are. Courageous men on both sides have fought and died. But the battles have been provoked by the very few and very powerful who sought through others' death their own power and glory. The 17th century was one of religious fanaticism. Nothing to be proud of as such.

Judaism, Christianity and Islam, have more than one thing in common but undeniably each claim to be the only way to salvation. Why cant they be like the sun that gives light to everyone regardless of race or creed. Yes, I remember a wise man once said because the same sun that gives light also creates shadows. So people, stop extolling your faith unless it is universal and without discrimination less it is the shadow of the universal law of karma.

Whoever made this does not know military history at all. In the first place, Rhodes was besieged three times and the first time Suleiman was not there. Also, Malta is barren but that has nothing to do with where the knights wanted to stay. Giving Malta to the knights was an honor because Malta controls the Mediterranean. Keep in mind that the knights were warriors not fat greedy people who wanted to live in a comfortable beautiful Utopia.
