"You bastard! You bastard!" "I think he's saying go faster." Fun Fact: Theatrical movie debut of Annette Bening. The Rest Of The Story Fact: John Hughes had intended to direct the picture himself, but scheduling conflicts did not allow it. Location Location Fact: In the movie, the family eats at Paul Bunyan's Cupboard. There is a popular resturaunt in northern Wisconsin, called Paul Bunyan's Cook Shanty. Unfortunately, the '96'er isn't on the menu. Product Placement Fact: Several times throughout the movie, characters are seen drinking Point Beer. Point is an actual beer made in Stevens Point, in central Wisconsin, and is very popular throughout central and northern Wisconsin, where the movie takes place. A Point Beer sign is also seen in one of the restaurants in the film. Cutting Room Floor Fact: The theatrical trailers show footage deleted from the finished film: Chet (John Candy) talking affectionately to a mounted moose head, Roman (Dan Aykroyd) uttering an unearthly belch at the dinner table, and Roman with his annoying laugh in another scene. In the standard film version, the laugh is only heard when Roman and his clan first arrive at the cabin.

Classic! For John Candy and summer vibes, there's also "Summer Rental". Also, kind of different, and maybe more outdoor than summer, but "White Water Summer" was a good one from my youth, with a young Sean Astin and Kevin Bacon. It's not really a comedy. More adventure/drama, but worth checking out. The local girl, Lucy Deakins, had a short period where she was in a few things. Not really sure what happened to her, or why she didn't become bigger, but she starred in a movie called "The Boy That Could Fly". I honestly haven't watched it in decades, but I do remember it being a good one.

@@RhetoricalThrill yeah. One of the things that I vaguely remember from it was that it might've been the first time that I saw Fred Gwynne as something other than Herman Munster. Not sure if you know him, but he had been a legit actor that had done theater, movies, and TV, but was mainly remembered for the original "The Munsters" TV show, where despite his long career, was basically known as the goofy version of Frankenstein. Another good one that he was in as part of a really good ensemble cast was "Disorganized Crime", which was a real good comedy/action flick from the late 80s, that you'd probably dig.

Love that you are honoring John Candy my two absolute favorite flat out comedies... "Armed and Dangerous" and "Who's Harry Crumb"... I find "Delirious" hella fun... And if you want to see something different I highly highly recommend "Only the Lonely"... He's also great in "Splash" and "Brewster's Millions" but he's the ride or die sidekick in those.

It did lose the concept of the brother-in-law rivalry, and became a string of blackout gags . When I saw this in theaters, I was very disappointed, but in the years since, it's grown on me. It's still a half-baked movie, but nostalgia and some genuine laughs make it better than when I first saw it.

Man we can only imagine what movies John Candy would have made if he were still alive. If you are and Canadian and love John Candy you should watch the Splash reunion on KZread that Josh Gad did during the Corona Lockdown and Created the Reunited Apart Series where Cast Reunites and specifically The Ryan Reynolds special Appearance where talks about John and what movie his kids love the most he made a wonderful tribute to John Candy it’s at the end of the Reunion he is talking then says I made this tribute then it cuts to the tribute enjoy watching it also Josh Gad has also done other reunions such as the Goonies, Ghostbusters, The Karate Kid and many more just search Josh Gad reunions on KZread and you will find it.

But I will repeat quickly if you looking for flat out John Candy comedy you can't do better than, for me, "Armed and Dangerous", "Who's Harry Crumb?" and "Delirious". If you want to see a little more serious change of pace for John check out "Only the Lonely". He's also a great sidekick in "Splash" and "Brewster's Millions".. Also really really great in "Cool Runnings". He's also really hilarious in "Stripes" but it's a small supporting part but man John was so hilarious.

I was once close enough to a lightning strike to feel the em field pull on the iron in my blood. The second closest was about a week ago feeling the blast wave before the sound wave. Both times on my bed and the strike just outside. The one with the em field it melted the cable drop outside.

@@RhetoricalThrill The first one was like the feeling from playing with magnets repelling each other but from the inside. Didn't hurt but felt weird something like going over a hill and feeling a sudden reduction of G forces except to the side. The last one was sitting against the wall and felt like someone hitting it first just before the sound. You just don't want to be the shortest path to the ground or the best conductor. The cable acted as a lightning rod and didn't see the actual path of the second. Suspect an old fence, old rabbit cage or my garden stuff, because phone and power not hit.

Not my favorite John Candy, but the whole business with the bear is hilarious. Also the racoon subtitles 🤣🤣🤣 and the steak 🤢 I think Dan Aykroyd being a lying obnoxious mooch just rubs me the wrong way and weakens the rest of the movie, but other than that it's ok. Summer Rental (with Rip Torn), Who's Harry Crumb (with Annie Potts), and Only The Lonely (with Ally Sheedy) are much more enjoyable John Candy to me. You might even try the very, very strange Nothing But Trouble, with Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase, Demi Moore, and John Candy. Also 2Pac (it's... strange)
