I was amazed that someone actually reacted to this one. It's a lost gem from that era, overshadowed by better known movies. I love this one. It's just good goofy fun. Especially the Godzilla scene. The Japanese investor guy grinning ear to ear as Godzilla trashes the little village is just perfect. If you haven't seen it yet, a fun more modern John Cusack movie with a goofy plot is "Hot Tub Time Machine", which is way better than it has any right to be. Unrelated to any of that, another great movie from the same year as One Crazy Summer that nobody seems to react to is Rodney Dangerfield's "Back to School". Loads of fun with a good cast that includes a very young Robert Downey Jr.

During filming on Cape Cod, the actors' hotel was across the street from the drive-in. Animated Revenge Fact: Savage Steve Holland did the animation for the film. He was upset that film critics Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert roasted his earlier John Cusack film, Better Off Dead... (1985). The two animated bunnies that get blown up at the end of this movie bear a strong (and not accidental) physical resemblance to the movie critics.

We interviewed Joel Murray (George) on our podcast last year. He is also BIll Murray's brother that was how he got this part, his first movie. He told a story of meeting Bob Cat for the first time in the crew hotel. He was shooting bottle rockets down the hallway and out the exit door. John Cusack tried to sue to not be in this movie and was forced to be in it. He hated the director because of the previous movie Better Off Dead. This was supposed to be a sequel to Better Off Dead (same writer/director) with even shooting cameo scenes with Diane Franklin, but they scrapped the idea and separated the stories. And Bobcat's voice was a choice btw. Excellent reaction as always sir!

Bobcat Goldthwait retired "the voice" sometime ago. He still does stand-up, but is currently best known as a screen writer and director. He is still close with most of the comedians from the Comic Relief crew, Robin Williams having been among his closest friends.

Heart me some Cusack. 1) Grosse Point Blank is a lot of fun. With his sister Joan and Dan Akroyd. 2) Money For Nothing about a guy who finds the cash that fell off the armored car. 3) The Grifters with Angelica Huston and Annette Benning. Dark and gritty noir goodness. ❤️❤️❤️

Back To School is a great funny college comedy 80s movie. Love to see you react to it! It stars Rodney Dangerfield who is a millionaire tycoon and goes back to school. It also has Sam Kinison and Carradine from Christine. You’d recognize more.

God I F-ing LOVE this movie!! Pure unadulterated insanity, just like it should be! As you may have noticed, this was to be a sequel to Better Off Dead with the same characters, but in the end they made it a separate story for some reason.

The guy wanting to build the Beckerstead Estates played the 2nd in command of the evil fraternity in Animal House that asks about Flounder's pledge pin(basically spitting in face at the same time) George's actor is Joel Murray, one of Bill Murray's like 4 or 5 brothers.

Joel and Bobcat Goldthwait worked together much, much later on the incredibly dark comedy "God Bless America" It's a pretty rough film and I personally don't know how it got made. Not for the squeamish.

Awww Jay dude, how can you not like the Bobcat? He's a legend of the 80's you should check out some of his stand up and the Police academy movies. And his voice is like that basically and he amps it up for roles. To hear his everyday voice check out his role in BLOW. SHAKES THE CLOWN is his Tour de force.

The part where they fix up the boat reminds me of "Summer Rental", with John Candy.

I see someone already told you Joel Murray is one of Bill Murray's 8 brothers. Another brother is John Murray. He's in a movie called Moving Violations. If you can find it, you definitely need to watch it. There's a lot of people you'd know in it.

I taped Moving Violations off HBO as a kid, and I think I must have watched it at least 100 times. It's a forgotten gem and I definitely second that recommendation. Jennifer Tilly as a rocket scientist? Sold!

Taylor Negron dude. : ) He was the pizza guy in Fast times but I know him best as Fausto in Nothing but trouble, which oddly also has Demi Moore in it. Stay Hip Jay.

I get why a lot of people don't dig on Bobcat's persona voice, but in the moment of the time when it was current, it was a hit. As others have said, he's since gone on to become an amazing director. I'm not being hyperbolic when I say that I put him up among the greats like Hitchcock, Kubrick, and Stone. Please, one day, react to God Bless America. I consider it to be Goldthwait's magnum opus.

I always forget the name of thus movie but ilove it. Everything I have seen with Bobcat Goldthwait he had that voice. I use to love his comedy with his voice.i love seeing these old movies.

Excellent again, Jay. I'm glad you've changed your stance on Bobcat as I loved him growing up. My favorite movie of his is "Shakes the Clown." I would love to see a reaction on that one. You'll be surprised at the cast in this crazy movie. He does speak normally in real life as it was his "comedian persona" that brought all that crazy jibberish. The animation was a great part of the movie being that I was around 7 or 8 when this came out. There were a couple of thing I heard about this movie but the funniest one was the animated sequence at the end, when Cupid lit the bunny's bomb, two bunnies were depicted as Siskel and Ebert, getting blown up because of how they scored Better Off Dead. You made my day again and I can't wait for the others.

Other movies I'd recommend based on this selection are POLICE ACADEMY's 2, 3, & 4, which is the Bobcat sub-trilogy, MOVING VIOLATIONS, which features the youngest(?) Murray brother, and, if you want to see more of Demi in her 20's, ST. ELMO'S FIRE. - In my opinion, the better of the Savage Steve Holland / Cusack / Armstrong collabs. LOVE this flick. And glad you've also discovered EEK! THE CAT, a funny cartoon for kids & adults alike. - When I think of 80s montages, this is the FIRST movie that comes to mind. Also... if you didn't notice, The Boat was the same one that was abandoned on the beach in an earlier scene. - VERY quotable movie. "No, that sounds like WORK!", "The only way to win is to cheat!", "MUSIC! MONEY! TIME!". Plus, I can't hear the "Down on the Corner..." song w/o thinking of this movie. - Like Emo Phillips & Gilbert Gottfried, Bob Goldthwait's voice was part of his standup persona. It became so popular he rarely appeared in 80s movies w/o it. I personally would have toned it down in this movie by 10% (maybe just do the scream every two out of three scenes he's in), but even so he stole most of the scenes he was in, and many of my favorite lines come from him. - It seems as if almost EVERY person with a speaking role was an 80s "Hey Its That Guy / Gal". And Billie Bird, who played Grandma, was like in EVERY OTHER comedy movie in the mid-80s. - Speaking of, this was NOT the only time Billie & Bobcat appeared in the same movie. They were also in POLICE ACADEMY 4 together.

Piven's dad owned a theater, a theater company and an acting school in Chicago. Piven and Cusack have been acting together since they were kids along with Cusak's sister Joan.

The Disc Jockey was Rich Little who was famous for his impressions of the stars of the time.

There's something so unique and special when it comes to 80s films I haven't seen this one probably in 20 yrs, I feel so old. I forgot how many actors I recognized in this too. Bobcat is annoying but he does grow on you haha

The guy with Taylor is Rich Hall - back in the 80s he had a show on HBO called Snigglets. They were made up words that the English language should have. One I remember was bowlekinetics - the act of moving your body after rolling a bowling ball in an effort to affect its path. I think there was a book, too.

I forget what the word was for reopening the door to check that your mail dropped into the mailbox. But I smile every time and can hear Rich Hall's voice. The radio DJ who gets blown up at the end is Rich Little. He was a famous impersonator. He went on Carson a lot.

My fav was "poppatrooper" - the pieces of popcorn in a overfilled movie theater popcorn bucket that fall off and bounce across the concession stand counter. I must be misremembering though, I thought Snigglets was a segment of Not Necessarily The News, not it's own show. Shows what a few decades will do to the way you remember things.

It makes that distinctive sound as your shoes try to stick to the floor, before finally pulling away on each step.

One that sticks out in my mind after all these years is "S-O-Asshole", the guy who cuts through a gas station in order to avoid the stop light at the intersection.

I love that it ends on Uncle Frank having victory snatched away, then the focus shifts to the bazooka for the punchline 🤣🤣🤣 Really enjoying this mini Curtis Armstrong-athon 👍 I think Ackie is a very underrated role for him and he doesn't usually get to play a softer character (though he has a timid cameo in Dodgeball). Bobcat definitely has to grow on you, but I really love his particular style of stutter/vocal tic/screaming. Even him trying to get cookies into the mouth of the Godzilla costume is hilarious. Try Shakes The Clown for a weirder one from Bobcat.

For the best Jeremy Piven movie watch “PCU” from the early 90s.

I've watched this movie dozens of times and I can't believe I never recognized that Niedermayer from Animal House was in this! If you decide to watch Animal House make sure you have this mantra handy to repeat to yourself: "This is a product of its time. This is a product of its time..." If you do you should get a real kick out of this film and see why it's a classic, if you don't you'll likely find it too cringeworthy to enjoy. Savage Steve Holland's third film, How I Got Into College, is a step (and a half) down from this movie and Better Off Dead and there's no John Cusack in it, but it's still a really fun movie with the same kind of humor. I recommend it. I also recommend the movie Risky Business if you haven't seen it. It's one of Tom Cruise's earliest films, it's not his first one but it's the one that put Tom Cruise on the map of Hollywood stars. It's basically an 80's John Hughes movie that takes itself a little more seriously. Also, again I recommend Grosse Point Blank, it is like the greatest capper to watching 80's John Cusack movies. Take the John Cusack character from almost any of the 80's movies he was in, after he graduates high school train him to be an assassin, then send him to his 10 year high school reunion. Hi Jay! Thank you so much for watching this very underrated movie! My favorite part of the movie is when John Cusack and Demi Moore were walking on the beach. I loved the waves crashing and it just looked so peaceful. I suscribed to your channel about a month ago and I am so glad that I did. I loved that you reacted to "Summer School" (RIP Kirstie Alley). Another great 80's movie with Demi Moore that came out around the same time as "One Crazy Summer" is "About Last Night" which she stars with Rob Lowe. This is quite a good movie I think you would enjoy. I really hope that you react to "Weekend At Bernie's" from 1989 with Andrew McCarthy (He was part of the infamous Brat Pack in the mid 80's along with Demi Moore, Rob Lowe, Judd Nelson, Emilio Estevez and Ally Sheedy-- Basically the entire cast of "St. Elmo's Fire"). I have not seen any reactors watch this one and it is absolutely hilarious 😂 I guarantee you won't stop laughing.

I will NEVER forget the crossing guard stuck faces scene. It has been in my mind rent free for more than thirty years. I’m 43, I think I was 7 or 8 at the time. So many memories! You review the best movies, I always have the best time.

I actually loved the movie "Popcorn", So many people have never heard of it, and unforunately, t's out of print. The actor was also in Grease 2 and My Girl but died several years ago from AIDS.

Nah man, demi was a super cutie back then. one of my absolute faves i would sneak and watch as a kid was Blame it on Rio, oh baby talk about an awakening within as a wee lad : P

Great reaction my man! Bobcat is definitely in character with that voice. its not his regular voice although he stayed in that character in public for years in the 80s. back then many had the same questions as you do. Still looking forward to 3 O'clock High reaction.

I saw this movie in the theater when it came out. I was on a date. When the Godzilla scene happened, I was laughing so hard that I fell out of my seat. Crying, snot coming out of my nose, the whole 9 yards. Strangely, I never heard from her again. 😂

I can't believe you don't like Bobcat! I have a soft spot for him. His standup. particularly in more recent, mellow, talking normal years, is great. And, of course, he's a great director, with films such as "God Bless America" (with Joel Murray again), and "World's Greatest Dad" (probably Robin Williams' last great role). One of the most acerbic film satirists working today, I'd say. (EDIT) Yay! You like him now! I find him strangely lovable. And, no, he doesn't really talk like that. In his recent stand-up, he only veers into it once or twice, and it's mostly for nostalgic effect when relating some tale from his past. The audience really get a kick out of it.

EEK The Cat ruled too. I didn't know that about the animation in these films. Pretty cool.

This was one of my favorites as a kid would watch it when it was on cable when it was released on it all the time. The best part was the kids with the stuck faces.

I've always loved this movie, ever since I was an '80s kid in the '80s, but are we really supposed to believe that these 20-somethings are 18 years old?! 5:46 'Freaked' is a gonzo absurdist masterpiece of demented do0m! 7:33 AR-15 converted into a pistol-caliber carbine, probably for cheaper plinking. 12:38 The fat guy ate and entire bucket of chili and then farted on him. Also, Mars Attacks would have been waaaay better if they'd stuck with the dark vibes of the source material. I watched this last year and nothing about it seemed familiar... until I got to the beach chair and Godzilla scenes. I remember laughing so hard at those scenes as a kid. 🤣

Another awesome reaction, Jay! I was not thinking about this movie when I commented on "Better Off Dead". Probably because I don't have it on DVD. And you are right, this movie doesn't get the love that it should.

Meatballs is a great summer movie. Less Than Zero, Mask, Wargames, and Teachers are good 80’s movies no one reacts to.

There is one more Savage Steve Holland movie that was made, but it didn't have John Cusack as they had had a falling out before it was made. The movie is 'How I Got Into College'. Savage Steve stopped making movies at that point and focused on other things...

Taylor Negron RIP was also in a really good Rodney Dangerfield movie Easy Money with sidekick Joe Pesci. However if you want to see Rodney Dangerfield at his funniest, check out the romantic comedy Natural Born Killers with Woody Harrelson and Juliette Lewis. Wink 😉 wink 😉. You should check them both out.

Wow, I totally forgot this movie existed! So funny. Have you seen Biloxi Blues (1988) with Matthew Broderick and Christopher Walken? It's hilarious and one of my favorites. ✌🏽

Now you need to watched "How I Got Into College" to finish off the Savage Steve Holland movie trilogy, it was the last one he directed before basically just doing TV. That one doesnt have Cusack in it but is still entertaining, you do get a Curtis Armstrong cameo, and his co-star from Revenge of Nerds Anthony Edwards is in it. It is as wacky as these two are in a way .

I was an extra in this movie when I was 6 years old. Got to watch a lot of the filming. One of my favorite movies

Say Anything is another coming of age 80s comedy starring John Cusack. Great movie and would love for you to react to that one too!

I believe you’ve mentioned doing Say Anything at some point. Hope you still are, as it’s a really great movie. The best John Cusack movie, imo. The best of the 80s teen romance genre as well, although it’s really a lot more than that genre name implies

Got a movie suggestion it's the story of mankind it's from 1957 and stars everyone popular at that time but the main star is Vincent price.

Another good 80s flick is a series, Police academy.

@@JayBondReacts The first four or so are fun, then the quality starts to drop off. The last two are particularly cringeworthy. Bobcat joins that series in movie 2.

Thanks! I'm hit or miss on actors. There are probably a ton of really famous people I don't recognize because they don't show up in the little low budget horror movies I watch. I mostly can recognize bit part/B and C list actors over A hahaha

Yeah, for whatever reason me and my best friend loved Bobcat's brand of comedy (we were about 14-15) when this came out. We quoted this and Better off Dead constantly.

This movie introduced me to Honemoon Suite !
