    Today it happened, i have been hardstuck at 120-130m for like 2 years. I have been doing this drill for the last 4 sessions (not doing any rounds or "real throws" inbetween). Most of the time it felt useless, shanking most of the throws for the first 30 minutes of the sessionn & throwing max 50m. Today was the fourth sesssion doing this drill, as usual the throws were not great at the start, but after about 30minutes i felt like the discs were going about were i was aiming. So i felt like trying one "real" shot for fun and then it happened, i think i actually got into the power pocket for the first time playing disc golf for about 5 years. The disc came out like a bullet. So guys if you struggle with this one, stick with it.

    I've been working on form for 5+ years, and couldn't figure out how to possibly keep my arm from dragging. Because "don't use your arm" was so consistent in every form thread, I assumed my body positioning, hips, center of gravity (etc) _must_ be the culprit. Nope. One bicep curl, my body took over and the disc just exploded out. Like WTF just happened and why is the disc going so far and so flat and so... THANK YOU for this video / series. Would be great if you had a video that focused specifically on the timing of initiating the bend, b/c seems if your timing is slightly off (early or late) you don't get nearly the same effect.

    An easier way to achieve the same is to simply coil the wrist around the disc when you're getting ready to throw. Easily verifiable and reproducible, and you'll automatically get the elbow up and out simply because it's *really* uncomfortable to get the disc flat with a coiled wrist without raising the elbow.

    Learned this late in the game 2022 end of summer when looking at that Dan beto drill video. Some observations: 1) Star at low power or you will injure your elbow and/or shoulder (especially true if your shoulder feel stiff in the 90 degree lifted position). I hurted myself and had to take a break due to this (I'm quite old for this game, focused on stretching the shoulders for better mobility and feel good again) 2) keep your shoulder down, keep traps relaxed 3) when adding more power, arm tends to dip lower => make sure to film and verify technique is still intact. Thanks and cheers!

    This video did it for me. I watched the video practiced with a flight towel and played the best round with the confidence I can shape the shot and throw it where I want it to go. I have played for a little over a year and have been searching to understand the how to throw a disc like the pros. Today I felt like i had control of the disc, and could throw a disc the way it was supposed to fly. For the first time I threw a resistor backhand and it flew flat for 200 feat and Hyzered at the end of the flight. Prior to watching this video that same disc immediately went left and I only used it for flex forehand shots. Amazing!!! For the first time i knew I had snap. The funny thing is I was only throwing at 85% where I was normally throwing as hard as I can to get the same distance. The spin doctor videos explain the process of throwing in a way that is logical in a format that is easy to understand. I highly recommend this video and other content created.

    I can't remember if it was actually one of your earlier videos or maybe Ulibarri's videos, where it was instructed to keep your elbow out and bring the disc closer to your right chest. As I have always been bringing the disc incorrectly closer to my left chest, I still remember the first time when I tried it the correct way. Whoa! What a difference! By far the single most useful tip I have had in all these years of playing disc golf. Thank you for keeping it simple and focusing on must-haves. Cheers!

    I haven't looked at the new drill by Dan Beto I should probably do that but I still think his original from 2008 has value and I agree its 100% necessary to exaggerate positions to gain the feedback that will build the experience and 'unveil' the middle ground that is right for each player. I don't usually pay attention to getting my elbow "out" specifically beyond the "leading with the elbow" philosophy but by wide back takes care of that on its own. I'll definately recommend your video for powerpocket stuff becuase just like you I see a lot of players leaving their arm behind.

    Two take away so far after trying it on the course, much more spin and my arms and shoulders are not as sore or tired?. This definitely increases your pitch count. That's a baseball reference. No major gain in distance yet, but as my timing, swing plane and confidence of where the disc will go sync's up with the elbow out ECT. I'll have to retool and get some more overstable discs. Lol Thanks again! Great ideas. Enjoy your videos.

    Thank you for these awesome videos, they've been a game changer for me :) Do you have a video or some thoughts on "spinning out" or over rotating the shoulders as the disc is leaving the power pocket? That's something I've struggled with up until a few months ago. I was working on the dan Beto and constantly releasing late, until I watched the deep pocket videos from the Overthrow channel (releasing at 10 o'clock position. I'd love to hear your thoughts on setting the shoulders to ensure the disc is releasing in the correct position. The baseball visualization you mentioned in this video was very helpful in my mental approach!

    I just recently watched this video and the segment where you showed the stuck and rounding position looked exactly like my "power pocket" position. I focused on lifting up my elbow and pushing it out and it instantly helped me be much better. 1 thing I noticed is that between this video and the grip video I am unsure how hard to be holding on to the disc to create snap and spin when the disc ejects out of my hand. I tend to want to help the disc out of my hand by letting go. I then get frustrated with letting it go and I start gripping really hard and then I get to the griplock style throw. Any help on what the grip should feel like at ejection would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the great work.

  • @dgspindoctor

    Yes, and yes! In drilling something, anything, I would teach the muscles slowly and consciously. After the movement is familiar enough, you guide the muscles less and less and it all blends into one, fluid motion. And yes, it's good to do it on one leg, or like the rear leg is only lightly supporting you from falling.

  • @dgspindoctor

    @dgspindoctor

    Жыл бұрын

    Excellent question! I would describe the motion as "gently guiding" the motion. It's a feeling that "okay the disc wants to go there, I will go with it, but also not let it slip too early." Everything happens so fast from the pocket to out, that you can't really control it consciously.

    @@dgspindoctor Awesome, thanks for the quick reply! That was the feeling i had as well, to "guide" it a bit with the forearm. Whenever I leave it 100% loose it feels less in control, so thank you for confirming. This must be why it's good to start slow, to avoid hurting the forearm/elbow while getting the technique down!

    Question I’ve been struggling with on this. When I don’t move my body or shoulders forward in rotation and I move my arm through across my chest and slap my back of my hand towards the target I always snap my elbow. I’ve been having pain with it. How do I prevent snapping the elbow? When I create the snap my arm eventually straightens and pulls me around. During the straightening it gets the pressure of the force you used for throwing.

  • @dgspindoctor

    @dgspindoctor

    4 ай бұрын

    You should LET the body move forward and rotate, which happens if your brace pushes to the ground and the rear leg is weightless. The follow through eases the impact of the "elbow snap" because you don't stop the move, you let it continue.
