This is from my grandmother’s autobiography, where she witnessed it in Ceylon. As the afternoon was drawing to a close, we settled down to watch the highlight of the day; the Indian rope trick was going to be performed on our lawn for us. This takes some believing but I saw it with my own eyes. A youngish Indian in a loincloth and no turban, his long hair just coiled into a bun, walked into the centre of the lawn, carrying a heavy coil of rope. Wasting no time, he threw one end up into the air with all his strength, and the whole lot shot up, so high we could hardly see the top. He then proceeded to climb, using his feet to propel himself up, and up and up, until suddenly both rope and Indian had just gone, vanished. Mass hypnotism? Childish gullibility? I don't know the answer but at least fifty people witnessed the phenomenon.

When the title says "Revealed", I thought you'd be showing how the trick is performed, not explaining that it is a hoax which I assume most people are aware of.

@V - 😁 That’s not entirely true. I have mentioned how some magicians do it towards the end. I didn’t stress on it because it is unprofessional to reveal the secrets that magicians use to ply their trade. Magic is a cool art and knowing the trick makes the show uncool. Also from the other comments it is clear that most people did not know it was a hoax.

IIRC, the American journalist and sensationalist author of the paranormal, John Keel, claims to have witnessed the full Indian rope trick in his book "Jadoo." He also relates an explanation given to him by an Indian magician, involving a complex combination of a wire strung between hilltops and mannequin parts. It's been a long time since I read it, but it was pretty wild. Later in the book, he claims to have met a holy man who tells him what the magician described to him was "AN Indian rope trick," but not "THE Indian rope trick."

The rope is an empty tube, the basket is placed on the top cover of a 4' empty hole. The assistant hidden underneath opens the bottom cover of the basket and sticks a rod inside the empty rope. The rod is like the (photo) selfie rod which can be shortened or extended (by twisted & locked the cross sections). Audiences are not allowed to examine the spot where the basket is put on.

That means, believes are independent of reality... whether something is existing or not, but still we can believe in it.... Nice job... thanks & please go ahead....

The closest thing to this I have seen is a magician climbing the rope and then going inside some sort of box that is attached to the roof and then he came from behind the audience it was an amazing experience I knew the trick but I enjoyed it that's all that matters but people literally creating fake myths and stories is so wrong it puts a shadow on the real trick that the magician has done.

I have a version of the trick on early black and white 16 mm film around 1930s that I got from a relative my in a box and had transferred to VHS . It shows all of the trick but the boy disappears in the basket when he climbs down at the end .

"This rare clip showing it being done..." No, this clip shows segmented clips that purport the trick being accomplished. We see soldiers checking the rope. Cut to the man 'throwing the rope up' but what looks like the rope falling doen in reverse. Cut to the boy climbing what looks like a rope, but it doesn't show the rope or the ground. This collection of video clips omits the boy disappearing, the magician folkowing him with a sword into nothing, the boy's body falling in pieces to the ground from nothing, the magician returning from nothing, and the magician laying a blanket over the boy's parts and making the boy whole again.

@Please - I don’t think the word science can be applied to something like Politics, economics etc. I really don’t know why we have subjects like “political science” in our schools. Do they follow the scientific method ? Yeah maybe at the start but as we go deeper it enters into another realm where universality and falsifiability ( two main pillars of science) crumbles. I am a person of science so if I don’t know about something, I would say I don’t know. Politics, psychology and economics are not my forte. I am really sorry that I am not able to give you what you seek. 😖

Anand, "walking on the water surface" is another trick, that apostles of many religions claimed to have performed, probably to "prove" their supernatural powers in front of the potential followers who spread it later. Good to analyse it scientifically and debunk this, explaining "how far" this can be true, and its (im)possibilities. Thanks.

Hey Anand! Just love your channel✨ Would also like you to do videos on 1) Meditation 2) Yoga 3) Veganism The first two are topics that the Baba brigade boasts a lot as there genuinely seems to be some evidence of them. The third topic is close to my heart as according to me as we should move on and enlarge our moral circle. We should do away with animal killing as we did away with evil practices of slavery etc.. Also non-vegetarianism is one of the biggest cause of climate change. Also in some video would like you to tell why some ayurvedic products actually work like ayurvedic soaps, toothpastes, balms, some pain relieving oils work. Even though ayurveda as a whole is a pseudouscience but that products actually work...

Hello @Shyam Agrawal - Really glad that you love the channel. With regards to the video suggestions , I consider the first two doesn’t live up to the claims that people make about it. I have done a small video on Yoga ( headstands) where I have talked a bit about why it is not a very good exercise regime. I am sorry but I don’t agree with the third suggestion 😀 There are plenty of evidence against it so maybe one day I shall do a video on it. On the Ayurvedic external treatments. All the evidence that we have are anecdotal with no evidence for systemic reactions. Massaging with oils etc will give a temporary relief for a few hours and a lot of it is due to placebo. You should read the list of diseases that Charaka and Susrutha have claimed to cure using these oils. It’s hilarious. But keep watching !

@@PaleBlueThoughts You have stimulated my curiosity. I have found the book where I read about the Rope Trick & Queen Victorias interest in it. The book is, Conquest By Man by Paul Herrmann, Copyright 1954, Harper & Brothers. On page 309 he basically repeats the Ibn Batuta claim. He then writes, "Queen Victoria is known to have offered L2,000 for the secret of this trick. The sum was later increased to L10,000; but it still lies in the vaults of the Bank of England, no one having come forward to claim it". Thank You again. I hope that my meager input has been of some help.
