sadly it is allways like this.. movies that are done.. from deep heart of let's make something really uniqe good. put our money really in to it. and hard work.. are going under the radar.. because the money didn't went to marketing or makeing move work for oscar or other shit. money went where they should go to the movie... Such movies rise many many years after.

@@YaroLord I don't know if it could really be considered a 'cult classic' because it's based on classic literature. A cult classic is something that's a true oddity & didn't begin as a book, like Rocky Horror Picture Show, or Heathers. A Fitzgerald novel on film is not something that could be considered a cult classic, IMHO anyway.

The movie gives that effect because Baz brings contemporary culture into his movies, however on closer inspection of the novel, after watching the movie, it is clear that there is no homoeroticism innuendo in the novel. Fitzgerald makes it clear that Carraway was straight and attracted by women. The scene with Mr Mckee, is an addendum to the chapter and a route to explaining Nicks alcoholic amnesia rather than anything sexual. The relationship with Garsby is just admiration.

Unpopular opinion over here, but I think Tom was much worse than Daisy. He was a fucking monster. Case in point: she was *having his baby* and he was "god-knows-where with god-knows-who". He wasn't even with her when she was having his child! He cheated on her constantly and the one, *one* time she decided to be with someone else was The One That Got Away and yet everybody talks about how horrible she was, but he is straight-up abusive. For all her flaws, Daisy is Tom's victim.

One of my all time favorite movies. Every time I watch it, I become enveloped in the plot, the characters, the setting, all of it. It feels as though I am a part of it, I am finding out who Gatsby is, alongside Nick Carraway. I fall in love with Gatsby, I fall in love with the idealized version of Daisy, I get my heart broken as Gatsby’s life is taken and as Daisy returns to her life, as if Gatsby had never existed. I feel all the characters emotions. Just the way this movie was executed, was perfect for the story of The Great Gatsby. The old movie from the 70s is just okay. They did not create such a masterpiece that was fit for a film adaptation of such a wonderful book. This movie just perfectly executes everything, you are meant to fall in love and have your heart broken, just like Gatsby when you’re watching it, you’re meant to be entranced by the parties like all the shallow people of New York, you’re meant to believe in Daisy and want to be around her, you are meant to be a part of it, in order to truly understand the magnitude of the story

I think she did truly love him, but she was basically Tom's victim and went back to him because he's so incredibly abusive and controlling so she was scared. Does that make her 100% innocent, or fully excuse her changing her mind? Of course not (although in this version we never got to know what she said or didn't say to Gatsby, which I thought was fascinating to leave that as a hanging question,) but I do think that not enough people talk about how abusive Tom is and how Daisy is absolutely his victim. I feel like her return to Tom is an act of powerlessness & subservience.

Maybe it is not about “enough,” rather than the strength of the person. Maybe some people love to their greatest capacity - but it is a small (lesser than) version of love because so are they. Perhaps a big love, takes a “big person.”

@@pixiebells I kind of feel that. I get it that she didn't manage to get out of her own lack of moral and she is ultimately responsible for it... But the pressure on her given her upbringing and everything must have been huge. Is it just me to think this? Plus, I think Jay was asking too much from her. Demanding that she would negate she ever loved Tom (= equal to wanting to delete the past) was way to much for her to handle. Jay should have accepted the years that had passed and take it from there, accept that in the midtime she had gone through things. But he did non even want to see any of that, and she felt it. He was obsessed and ultimately... Would you trust to change your whole life for someone that seems more obsessed by you rather than show real love and acceptance? I don't think so... It is, it was slowed down. Lana re-recorded it in a much slower tempo just for the film. If you haven’t look at the behind the scenes for the soundtrack, it’s awesome!

It's a sort of tragedy and the lesson is the direct approach is always best when dealing with affairs of the heart . If Jay Gatsby had just come back to America and married Daisy the way so many other soldiers married their sweethearts they may have at least had a chance at happiness , but he made the mistake of thinking he had to make his fortune first in order to be worthy of her and the chance was lost .

That was no mistake. When reading the novel and then watching the movie, one has to consider what was the real context of the social parameters in the US in the 1920's. The love story will tell you that Daisy would marry Gatsby because of love and nothing else matters, but Fitzgerald's novel actually portraits reality within fiction. That is why the story is not simple.

***** If you haven't already read, "Careless People; Murder, Mayhem and The Invention of The Great Gatsby" by Prof. Sarah Churchwell, I highly recommend it. Love the film or hate it, this project is one of the most creatively captivating endeavors this ADD History buff has enjoyed in some time! I see the character of Gatsby as more of a would-be film maker, who couldn't catch on to the impromtu required for his role in his own, carefully crafted life. I think when we try to recreate the past, we perceive the residual impressions that time can only be lived once-and only by those who were appointed to occupy it. The "mirror of the psyche" that Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald donated to the eternal is a relevant biorgraphical exploration. I could actually feel Scott Fitzgeral's pen fraontically trying to retain its "Minnesota" as his neighborhood "burned down the day". After this decade had blown over, all that matter to Scott and Zelda was their daughter, Scottie; that's something to consider.

Thank you for sharing this video with us😊. Leonardo DiCaprio is undoubtably the King of the best actors today. What makes Leo so Great is his superbly diverse acting capabilities: Leo assumes his roles with every fiber of his body, and that’s why his acting (mannerism) is so different and outstanding in each film. But Leo has another trump card up his sleeve: he’s very intelligent. There aren’t too many Hollywood actors nowadays with all 3 qualities: talent, beauty and brains.

No you would love to live as a white rich person (preferably male) in the 1920s - everyone else was fucked. That's what the book (not so much the movie but it's undoubtedly still evident) plays on so much - how the unfounded carelessness of the aristocrats impacted on every member of society, from those living in shacks amongst ashes to even those with millions themselves.

Why everytime someone says that would like to live in wherever decade as 20's to 60's, there're always someone spitting the problems of these eras, condemning who said that wanted to live there? Like, c'mon, it's the person's opinion and wish, stop trying to change their minds! All eras, even today, have it's problems. In the next 50 years, someone will look at our present and say the same thing about our problems, and we now think those days are the best, better than the others, etc etc. This is really a point of view. So people need to stop trying to shove their's into other person's throat by force! If they want to live as a rich, poor, male, female, straight, homosexual, black, white in wherever era, let's them alone, it's not our problem and people is free to wish wharever they want!
