It's not that simple. It was a risk to make this movie then, but rather than Charlie Chaplin staking his career on it, American audiences at the time felt the speech was going along with unpopular ideas of the time and hated it so much that he was banned from America until the 70's.

It will make no difference. People know no history, and don't bother to educate themselves. They throw "isms" about without understanding, and hate each other with glee. This speech was applicable globally. It still is. In a thousand years, if our species survives, it will be the same.

The way he says “hope” at the beginning. At first you think the Barber is hanging on the word and letting the nervousness get to him. But then you realize, it’s in that moment that he knows what to talk about to end the conflict and save everyone. It is hope.

So long ago this was said and still rings true today everyone in the world should listen to this but just once and the world would change share this speech with your friends. and ask them to do the same and in time we whole world will have heard it.
I've been looking for this very speech and here I find it.
I’ve heard that these words are not in the scenery nor the script, he asked to write his own words to say in this scene, you can see that those are not word he just prepared to say it in a scene, you can feel the words and he actually means it and he say it and mean it from his heart, that’s why I really feel like crying listening to him. It’s too deep.
The sad thing is if you played this video to college kids and didnt tell them it was 40 or 50 years old they wouldn't even know. That was awesome without that music in the first video i seen of this speech.

Maybe so, but when he started acting in movies, that's just not how it went. In fact, when movies started having spoken dialogue, people hated it because, no lie, they couldn't hold a conversation in the theater among other reasons. Well, almost a hundred years after the first "talkies" as they were called and look where movies are now.
