The Great Alpine Adventure | On Two Wheels

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Aaron and Ari go on the ultimate Alpine adventure with 10 lucky readers riding eight new adventure-touring bikes including Triumph's Explorer XC, BMW's 2013 R1200GS, Ducati's Multistrada S Touring, KTM's 1190 Adventure and Adventure R Models, Yamaha's Super Tenere and Honda's Europe-only Crosstourer. And for comparison purposes, we brought along BMW's 2012 R1200GS, the reigning champ in the Adventure Touring category.
Motorcyclist Magazine partnered with Edelweiss Bike Travel to put bikes and riders to the ultimate test on some of the most incredible roads on the planet, and in the most beautiful environments you could ever imagine. Five days and four countries packed into 14 minutes of OTW fun.

I had a Harley 1200 sporty while in the Army stationed in Germany. Put 9000 miles on it in Bavaria, Austria, Switzerland, Southeastern France, and Northern Italy. Some of the best roads in the world. Perfectly smooth pavement, banked curves, cool towns and awesome scenery. Highly recommended.

Strange, I have ridden the BMW GS and GSA LC but I like the handling and the engine of the Yamaha Super Tenere more. It vibrates less, due to the double counterweight shaft, and windprotection is better cause Yamaha designs it's motorcycles in a windtunnel. It has less power yhea, but overall, I think the Yamaha doesnt get the credit it deserves. Can't say anything for the other bikes other than that I dont like chain bikes.

The whole point of a 1200cc adventure bike is the ability to drive 1000 miles before reaching the Alps and starting your tour properly. If you're going fly/hire then use a 500.

The Stelvio is overrated, unless you do it very early in the morning it's way too busy with cyclists, motorhomes, busses and other bikes and you end up crawling along in 1st gear. Hairpins are not much fun on a bike anyway, there are so many better roads for bikes in the alps.
