The Grand Cherokee's Mini-Me Is The 2023 Jeep Compass | Quick Take Review

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Jeep's smallest model isn't the Compass, it's the Renegade that you might have forgotten. With the Cherokee sailing off into the sunset this year, the Compass is moving up-market a bit to compete with the larger "small" crossovers like the Kona and Crosstrek and the smaller "compact" CUVs like the RAV4. Sounds like a complicated mission, doesn't it? With 200 horsepower from a standard 2.0L turbo and AWD, the Compass certainly has the power to play in the bigger leagues, but how about the rest?

Exactly $36K-$38K is my cut off. Anything more just feels too expensive and too much of a wasteful luxury item. In my experience, when a vehicle is too expensive, it is not an enjoyable experience, because most of the time is worrying about simple wear and tear. These days, prices are bloated, paint is very thin, interior trims are scratch happy (peppered with piano black plastics), thinner windshields, and the experience becomes dread of knowing how expensive it was, and how much faster things are wearing than previous vehicles you had that cost half as much.

Interestingly, a comment of mine seems to have "disappeared."" He compared it to the Crosstrek, and stated this $46K Compass is going to be a better deal. A loaded to the gills Crosstrek Limited (HK audio, trailer hitch, and several accessories) is a little over $35K with destination. This Jeep is $46K+. I can't see Jeep doing $11K in incentives, the current Jeep website has this lease cost at $678 (with PA taxes built in) over 36 month - with nothing down. With the Crosstrek - just add in some Wildpeak Trails, and you'd probably be good for a while and well with most people's comfort zone with what you'd be willing to do with it. I doubt people are going to be willing to spend close to $50K on the Jeep and be comfortable pushing its limits and not minding watching damages appearing all over a $50K vehicle with a high monthly payment.

I get it.. if you want a Jeep you want a Jeep. But do they realize that for $46,000 you can get an Acura RDX with Tech trim? More power, more cargo space, still 8.2” ground clearance, and I’d bet that SH-AWD would do fairly well. Or get a fully loaded Tucson Hybrid for $40k which probably also has much more interior/cargo space and a big jump in efficiency. You could probably even get a decent 4Runner for $46k. This Jeep just seems priced into a very narrow target market

Just a quick check locally, our Jeep dealer has about a dozen of these on the lot and the top-of-the-line High Altitude with Nav with an MSRP of 44.2k has nearly 3k in instant discounts and another 2k in other discounts available. And according the Jeep's website, High Altitude is top model, not Trailhawk.

When you work with the actual manufacturers for the reviews and they send you vehicles or you’re going to press junkets for the vehicles etc. you’re kind of limited to what they send you or what they’re showing off. Some reviewer‘s like just go to a lot of car dealers and that’s why they can pick out different trims and such but that’s not really the way that Alex does the channel and these videos.

I think these comments are overly negative in regards to the price simply because this is the MOST expensive model you can get, save for maybe the top luxury one. Having worked with many of these at rental agencies, mainly lower trim levels, I think that’s where the compass competed best. You can get a Latitude with 4WD, surround view camera, automated safety features, heated power seats, and digital gauge cluster all for around $30k (2022 model year, according to my location up north). $40k+ is rightfully absurd, but I have yet to see any compasses crack the $36k asking price anywhere near me. Driving them around and cleaning them, they are much nicer inside and feel more quality oriented than the Kona, CH-R, HR-V (previous gen) and even some larger models like the Rogue (not to mention more feature options than all those listed). I know it’s anecdotal, but of the 30 or so 2022+ compasses that have been in the fleet I service, we have yet to see one break down or suffer any serious malfunction or issues, and some are getting up to 30k miles with no problem (which should be expected, but we have Konas come in with power steering faults and infotainment issues at a much larger scale than the Compass). Overall, I think for $35k or less, you can’t really beat the Compass when it comes to feature availability and interior design/quality. In my opinion, I like how it drives more than the CX-30 (too cramped, ride isn’t great and the stupid parking brake needing to be disengaged every time you drive). Would I buy the CX-30 turbo over any Compass? Of course. But when it comes to the lower end trims and value for money, the Compass is absolutely one of the better bets in the segment. Can’t speak on the new Crosstrek yet, hope I can get my hands on one soon

I drove one today and was very impressed. set the cruise to 75mph and got 36mpg+, 2.0T was punchy, honestly was shocked how much I liked it. As for pricing, good luck finding a crosstrek at MSRP - and even if you can, that'll likely be the best deal you get. Compass's typically have thousands in rebates and/or crazy financing offers, as well as dealers willing to get rid of them, so ultimately I think the delta between the compass and crosstrek will be much smaller in the real world. For my money it would be a no brainer, but I also would never spend 46k on one.
