Such a long story behind, this fantastic Irish song. I knew this song, by a tape sent to me by an Irish pen-friend in 1981. You see, pen-friend and tape, now by magic Internet I came across and many many thanks for posting this beautiful lively song...Oh I never thought she would prove false or even prove untrue....Greetings from far-off Argentina, not too far by now :)

No not from from everywhere, from England written by Harry Clifton an Englishman born in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire. So not from Mrs. Cronin in Cork. But hey, don't let facts get in the way, being Norwegian I tend to find the English don't tend to care about other folk stealing their innovations I think it's funny..

I love the subtle turn of the head Christy does at 3:49 ish. It was in response to one of the band preceding him in the chorus. Met him back stage at the leasurland in Galway recently after an excellent show. Absolute Gentleman. If u have a chance to go see him just do it. He’s getting better with age!

in Italy it was very difficult to find this kind of music twenty years ago or more, i think this stream of folk music is a gold mine and it's no surprise that people like Bob Dylan went fishing in it and came along with some lucky arrangements and words...one of the finest folk ensemble ever

"On board of the Kangaroo" was written in 1856 by the early British Music Hall star, Harry Clifton (born in Hertfordshire, 1832). This version is via Stan Hugill, who had various sources in England but also including Seamus Ennis who recorded Elizabeth Cronin in Cork. It's the version that Hugill printed that is sung here. The "history" given by Christy in this video is a bit of banter, not to be taken seriously.

Chalk it down boy. Fair play to ya. We have thousands of songs from Cork City alone never mind the county (check out Jimmy Crowley)but this is definitely not one of them. I mean Milford Bay like haha nothing to do with Cork. But fair play to christy for putting legs on it. Great song though and its the interpretation that makes it. Christy is a master at that

Erm, "On board the Kangaroo" Christy :-D Anyway, it's true that the song was "collected" by Seamus Ennis from Mrs Cronin in Cork ... however, it was written by the British music hall performer Harry Clifton in the mid 19th century. fantastic...did a guest spot as a resident foreigner dj on a radio station in korea one day ...idea was to get people fron different countrys to play traditional music from where you are from. This was first song. Absolutely love it.

It was evidently made up by the song's writer (British Music Hall star, Harry Clifton, born in Hertfordshire, 1832). There is a Milford Haven, but not a Milford Bay in Britain. The song is not set in Canada, so the Milford Bay in Canada would simply be a coincidence. There are a lot of Milford's in Britain and in North America.

It was evidently made up by the song's writer (British Music Hall star, Harry Clifton, born in Hertfordshire, 1832). There is a Milford Haven, but not a Milford Bay in Britain. The song is not set in Canada, so the Milford Bay in Canada would simply be a coincidence. There are a lot of Milford's in Britain and in North America.
