Oh wow. Just hearing the opening theme tune made me tear up! Could picture myself as a youngster curled up on the sofa next to my mum and dad watching our fav programme. Sniff sniff. A lifetime ago and so innocent to the madness we now live in.

I'm only in my mid 30's and I feel quite lucky that, between my elder brothers, of various ages, and my parents, I saw comedies from as old as the 50s to the late 90s and 2000s (when I was growing up). Some of the 70s ones were just brilliant. I loved The Good Life. And Some Mother's Do 'Ave 'Em and Last Of The Summer Wine were great too. Though it's hard to think of Last Of The Summer Wine as a 70s series when it went on for so many decades!

I watched this when it was broadcast here in Australia in the 1970s and it had a profound effect on my way of viewing life. In my 20s my partner and I grew most of our own vegetables and herbs and we kept ducks and chickens (only for the eggs). Kids, work, terrible climate etc slowed us down but we still grow a lot of vegetables. We used to brew our own beer and cider but the latter was HORRIBLE. You’d get through one and start a second bottle and feel deathly. We hope to emigrate to the UK in a couple of years time and will start up the self sufficiency again.

She had to work and I’d been crestfallen, swearing I wouldn’t watch it without her, even though she said it was fine, I felt it was betraying her. I did and was in tears but couldn’t stop watching. One of the worst things I regret 40 some odd years later. One of the best, most heartwarming series ever. Enjoy. Ta

I do love finding shows like this on KZread. Of course the only downside is that you inevitably find at the sour commenter posting stuff like: "Telly these days is rubbish,", "Back when TV was good,", "couldn't make this nowadays,", "The PC brigade/woke have ruined everything....etc...etc". The irony is that such views completely ignore the fact that TV throughout the decades is liberally peppered with comedy to suit all tastes...even today. And comedies like this were often dismissed, during their day, as being 'mundane' or 'middle of the road'.

Let's all just get on,when we don't agree let's meet in the middle, let's agree to disagree & let's just get on in life, money comes & goes, but our loved ones don't..sorry to ramble on,but let's just enjoy life, life can be hard enough without people making harder,so let's just be there for one another no matter what.. Sending love & hugs,to anyone needing that bit of reassurance then know you are only human, don't put so much pressure on yourself,be kind to your self & give yourself love & time to heal, just take each day as it comes..please take care & stay safe 🙏🏻💜✌🏼☮🌠🤘🏻🌱🌹🐝🐞🙏🏻💜✌🏼☮🌠🤘🏻🌱🌹🐝🌹..

Yeah, that's what happens when 4:3 gets 'cinematized', eh? Too many key elements in the frame and/or so many camera pans/movement to maintain everything in-frame, or in some cases, no excuse other than just really bad cropping. I understand the desire to reframe in 16:9, but some material is best left in its original aspect.

Thank you for the idea Tom and Barbara. It works!!!!
Fantastic comedy
Thanks Mark!
Good comedy
I do love finding shows like this on KZread. Of course the only downside is that you inevitably find at the sour commenter posting stuff like: "Telly these days is rubbish,", "Back when TV was good,", "couldn't make this nowadays,", "The PC brigade/woke have ruined everything....etc...etc". The irony is that such views completely ignore the fact that TV throughout the decades is liberally peppered with comedy to suit all tastes...even today. And comedies like this were often dismissed, during their day, as being 'mundane' or 'middle of the road'.

That sounds exactly like ' Terry & June' !
The good life was indeed "The good Life"y comparison with 2023
The 'perfect couple'.. Just as Jerry & Margot are + the same for Fawlty Towers. Sometimes gutted they didn't do more episodes, but then again that might spoil it a bit as these/the 4 series of this never tire.
Jerry would never receive a boat as his commission from small traders
The journalist played the priest on Only When I Laugh.
Barbara said "trousis" Huh? Schwing!!
Obtaining goods by false pretences I think would be the charge.
I feel like I'm sat too close to the telly.
Is this only half the screen size?
You don't, Creosote Chicken Houses, it is not correct.!
And plus they have people commenting on it tonight who weren't even born at the time
Where can I get the mugs from 18:17?
"Point at the Pigs"... vegetarian self sufficiency nitemare.....
They really don't make them like they used to,do they??..Honestly it's better than all the crap they put on now instead of all these reality programmes & 💩💩..I love the older stand up comedy & the roasts, people knew how to take a joke, the world's gone pc mad😅😅it really has..
2:48 Margot is FIT.
I think Vyvyan from The Young Ones said it best...
14:03- Page 3 of The Sun, by any chance?
Hiya, can anyone tell me which is the episode where Barbera knitted that Mad, weird sized green jumper for Tom? I have searched and searched but can't find it. I want to send it to my cousin who has moved from the city to the countryside and has embraced it xx

It's called, "Suit Yourself" Series 4 episode 5. She weaves a suit for Tom in that one. In "Silly, But It's Fun", the Christmas special, she weaves oversized jumpers for Jerry and Margo. Also series 4 (I believe)

Hi
16:9 doesnt really fly for 4:3/3:2
Pity about the framing
@robinwatson4282

How can we get KZread to cope with the 4:3 ratio
AKA Good Neighbors (in the US anyway)
nothing wrong with a little moan its the british way written in the passport i thinks
People say 70s uk comedy is a bit corny, however the comedy served up these days 2022,is really awful and not really funny at all.
Half an upload.
