If you want to learn how to swing a golf club, think of skipping a stone across a pond or throwing a frisbee...these are two very similar motions.

Agree with this. No need for many technical thoughts during the swing.

That truly does simplify things us golfers do make the swing way harder than it has to be

As I`ve gotten more interested in health and fitness, and improving my golf swing, It really is amazing how childhood activities are coming back into play and being successful training aides, Skipping stones make perfect sense. Thanks

Scott I understand the thoughts for “each” hand. However, please try to skip a stone or throw a disc with “both” hands holding the item. Too bad golf isn’t a one handed sport, eh! I look at it more like a two-handed backhand in tennis. The trick is getting both sides to cooperate with each other...ie left hand focused or right hand focused golf swing. Swinger or Hitter, Frisbee or Stone-skip...

Actually it's timing. You skip the stone with the trail hand and as the club turns from the momentum the left hand "let's" the frisbee fly. They don't oppose each other unless you make them. It's 2 very different points in the swing that these 2 things happen. He is skipping the stone from the top of the swing til about impact(with tons of momentum) and As the clubhead starts passing his hands the frisbee feel is activated(not before). As to your point you CAN "swing" or "hit" by dominating with one side but very few pros do that and no long drive competitors do.

Had to google what I tried today .... The right hand is for power and left for direction/control. I had an epiphany when I actually tried to though the club like skipping stones (after 15 years golfing) .. it is a whole different feeling, but it is effortless and natural. Not as hard for the body. I hit it pure and simply can't understand it. How is it possible that I hit the ball with a downward blow with the club head delofted. My mind will not accept it. The timing and direction isn't totally there (just tried it for an hour and I'm still blown away), but I will work on this new feeling. Only thing I can't get around is how to do it with a 3 wood or driver. Did not work well. One more thing. It is also a straight line blow feel wise. Like copping with an axe. The takeaway is still the same and I can feel the down swing a bit under the takeaway and right elbow close to the body. Totally like skipping a store on water. I am dying to get an the range to try it again.

Trouble is...SOME guys/girls can't skip stones...some guys/girls just can't throw sidearm...and for all the Frisbees I've thrown, being right handed, as most of us are, I've NEVER thrown one with my left hand...just saying. Golf is NOT simple or basic for all of people.

Yes, unfortunately, good golf requires at least average athletic ability. If it's not there, it's not there. Not everyone can be a brain surgeon either. The point was simply to compare the golf swing to other familiar movement patterns, since the tendency is for people to overcomplicate things.
