The context of the movie obviously plays the biggest role here, but the emotion this melody paints is the love and devotion of family, but with something darker that is hidden underneath that love, unconsciously crying out and exposing itself. Neapolitan Minor has a romantic sound but with a tinge of evil. This melody could tell that kind of story without a movie for context. One of the greatest melodies ever written in my humble opinion.

To be fair, you're getting that from the association you have with this and a movie you know well. It's been that long since I saw any of the Godfather films, and the fact I like Nina Rota's music anyway, that I barely make the connection. It certainly doesn't conjure any particular scenes from the films. It's cool that you have that interpretation, but let's be clear, that's all it is. The melody isn't doing that - you're memory of the film it's associated with is doing most of the heavy lifting. Great tune, and a great version as always by AT.
