IMPORTANT NOTE: We were wrong about the interaction between Ob Nixilis and Rakdos Charm. The damage is done from a single source, so unless one of your opponents has exactly one creature, Ob Nixilis won't trigger at all. Same goes for combat. Ob Nixilis will only trigger if an opponent receives exactly 1 combat damage. That said, effects that create independent damage triggers (Grapeshot, Blood Artist, etc) behave the way we want and 'draw' all the cards.

Wait really? I had asked a community specifically about Rakdos charm and was told it would work the way we would want, as separate sources/instances. Could someone verify what's correct and why?

@@aydjent "Ob Nixilis’s last ability looks at all combat damage dealt to an opponent in total to determine whether it triggers. For example, if three 1/1 creatures deal combat damage to an opponent, that player loses 3 life. Ob Nixilis’s ability won’t trigger." - 5/12/23 ruling

@@cobblepott4169 Ah okay, I see that on Ob's gatherer page now. I was looking for the interaction focused on the Rakdos Charm side, but I suppose that clarification lies in the way Ob works. So just to clarify (mostly for my understanding), if we cast Rakdos Charm and an opponent controls X creatures, those creatures deal 1 damage, X times, simultaneously, resulting in an event where the controller loses X life at once? Thank you for the quick response btw :)

Per Rakdos Charm: "120.4b Second, damage is dealt, as modified by replacement and prevention effects that interact with damage. (See rule 614, “Replacement Effects,” and rule 615, “Prevention Effects.”) Abilities that trigger when damage is dealt trigger now and wait to be put on the stack." All the creatures deal damage to their controllers and Ob Nix's trigger waits to get placed on the stack. When it does it sees all the damage that was done to each player as a single event of X damage. This comes straight from Charlotte, so we can rest assured that it's the take.

Loved this episode! Wanted to brew Ob as soon as I saw him spoiled but I kept trying to take him in a storm route - I love the logic behind the slower, more midrange build and I will be pivoting to that. I am curious - was any consideration given to Pestilence or Pyrohemia? They seem like they could be very strong at keeping the board clear and getting Ob triggers. Is four mana just too much?

Laelia's graveyard ability matters with Necro since Necro's exile ability isn't a replacement effect. But while we're also on the subject, Laelia is also fun with cascaders since cards are revealed and checked one at a time.

Jeska is very good in Ob. I one shots people out of nowhere all the time and in a pinch it can -1 to "draw" 3.

Jeska's -1 ability functions like Rakdos Charm. If you're targeting players, it will 'draw' one card.

I think it is fair to ask that cards are shown because they usually are. Saying that it wasn’t a priority just makes it seem like they didn’t wanna do it. Moving is a lot of work but in that case have someone else do it or make the time.

@cobblepott awesome deck! Do you think ob nixilus the hate twisted has a place in the deck. It's creature removal that seems to proc the commander. I know cal was talking about sheoldred dealing 1 damage this does that
