Me too, I was born at UT hospital but my parents is down in vonore Sweetwater of maynardville. Yeah you got it I'm adopted. But I truly remember the goat man as a young child we look forward you think it was about two or three you know seasons and then we couldn't find him no more going up and down greenback , Tn.I believe that's was where he was. Then after a while mom must just checked or whatever or maybe it's a newspaper that he had passed away.😊

As always a great story and well told. I met Goat Man when I was 10 outside Honea Path, SC. He was resting and allowed folks to pet goats and visit. I was somewhat scared of him but now I certainly respect him. He was evidently persecuted for no reason other than a simple ‘different’ life than most and preaching Jesus. A great memory and thank you again for the story.

Awesome story! Only God knows how many people may have been saved by the "Goat Man" shining the light to those he met. We all fall short of the Glory of God, but he certainly seemed to have given it his best shot regarding Jesus' great commission... Mark 16:15 And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.” ... and if anyone is interested in reading the greatest historical account of all times, read or listen to The Gospel of John. Thank you, Appalachian Storyteller, for bringing to us this wonderful account of the "Goat Man"!

Amen! Here's a quick story... Many years ago a man had recently came to his faith in Jesus. Filled with the Joy of the Lord, he gathered together his savings and rented out a local movie theater for a week or two to play "Chariots of Fire" for free to anyone who wanted to watch the movie. At the end of the film, he would call up anyone to the front of the theater who wanted to be saved. To his dismay, no one took the offer. But one man, who was on the fence, did wind up coming to the Lord shortly thereafter. That man wound up planting a Church and several sister Churches were raised to life from his Church. Many years later that man was at a Christian conference as he heard one of the speakers tell his story of renting the movie theater and how in spite of his efforts, no one came to be saved. Needless to say, the man who planted the Church shared his testimony with him. That story always raises goose pimples, just as it is for me as I'm typing this.

Oh wow. I remember that when the Goatman came through our area it was always a big deal and folks would line up to catch a glimpse. The little local paper would always do a write up and his picture would be on the front page. Memories from long ago that had gotten lost in all the noise and confusion of modern life. The man was a genuine character and that's something this country is sorely missing these days.

My husband is in his 60s, and growing up would often visit his relatives in Georgia. He's mentioned the goat man to me several times in the years we've been married. We just watched your wonderful video, and he says he probably saw him 10 or 12 times in the 60s and 70s going down the side of the 2 lane roads in Georgia between Folkston and Waycross. It's a real shame that because of some people's meanness he had to quit doing what he loved! We subscribed!

I heard of the goat man when I was a kid. I had no idea he lived in my hometown (Macon, GA). I had assumed, having heard this from my relatives only, that he was another Appalachian fellow with no geographic connection to my own life. Having died in ‘98 he was still living in Macon long after my family had told me about him. I was a teenager when he died. That crazy!
