The Glue Bomb Show, Episode 202: AMT Rat Fink International Transtar Review

I was finally able to finish my Rat Fink truck from AMT. It was a very easy and well made build, and I had so much fun with it. Check out the video to find out more about this great kit, and if you get the chance, pick one up! This one was a lot of fun and that's good because model building is supposed to be fun.

Thanks for sharing this one with us Dave. I really like the way this turned out and I think the fact that you made it all one color is awesome! It definitely looks like a show piece!

Beautiful build Dave. I like the chassis matching the body as well. When I built the AMT Wrecker I had the same issue with thick connection points on the sprue trees.

Thank you. I had a great time with this one. I had heard semi kits often have fit issues but this one was nice. I think anyone who takes the time to deal with those connection points can have a really successful build. If I had slacked on them I think it would have been a problem.

Good to hear it builds well. The colour looks great. I've had that reaction with the black sharpie marker also, it seems to take a longer time to dry, nice that you were able to save the paint job.

Yeah when I saw that black had run, I could have cried, but thank God it didn't hit the decals so I could touch it up. This is one of my best builds. I'd do another in a heart beat.

Great looking build good to know the black sharpie has an issue with clear coat.

Yeah that was a scary moment. not sure what I would have done if I trashed the decals and had to repaint.

Looks awesome. How long did you spend building, painting and detailing this kit? Kits like this aren't exactly cheap, so I'm interested in how much "value" (for want of a better term) can reasonably be expected. Cheers, and thanks for all you do on the channel

Hi Paul, I can't say exactly how long I spent, because I worked pretty sporadically over several weeks, but I'd guess, 15-20 hours... The way I look at it, a movie costs over ten dollars for two hours, so this is a steal. Of course the other side of it is, I got it Ollies for $20 so it almost feels like I "stole" it. :D I recommend the kit if you can get one.
