Exploring a '78 IH Transtar 4300 Eagle

I couldn't resist stopping to check out this sweetheart of an International Transtar 4300 Eagle. Straight out of the 70's, this truck has all the trappings of old school cool: a groovy paint scheme WITH PINSTRIPING!! a crawl-through McLaughlin (later bought out by Bentz) Spring ride, mechanical Cummins power, and steelie 2 hole wheels just to name a few.
Personally, I'd love to see someone update this truck's powertrain to big power, more gears in the tranny, and an air-ride rear clip; but still retain the 70's look & charm. But hey, it's not everyone's cup of tea. I know some folks turn up their noses at anything that's not a Peterbilt 379; but I find out-of-the-ordinary incredibly cool. Thanks for checking it out with me! Peace & grease ~Flannel

That heater under the seat was called a "Blend-air box" by IH. I worked on literally hundreds of those 42 and 4300's, as well as the Transtar Cab-overs in the seventies and beyond when I was a mechanic. One of the things that were so good was that etched schematic inside the passenger side rivited on the side of the heater. Spent a bunch of time staring at those, but they were very helpful, and wouldn't fade out or tear like paper ones in a manual! Great old truck, and the Eagles were pretty fancy back in their day!! 😊👍

I drove a 84' model daycab Eagle with my Dad for a few years. Was originally set up for tanker pulling, with aluminum frame. Had 300 BC Cummins Formula engine, 9 speed Roadranger OD, and 3.90 ratio diff's. After I got done tweaking the fuel pump, made 750 at the flywheel and 550 to the ground and the heavier you loaded it, better she liked it.... miss driving that truck.

One of my best friends has that same truck. Was even painted the same. Has had a few changes now and he still runs it every day all over the US. He bought it brand new in 79. Great Find. !

@@cobra6953 just a toy most likely, he's old enough to retire now. Its sitting at 250" wb on an airliner cut off now. We'd like to put a unibilt opening between cab and sleeper. He's talked about repainting it but I'm trying to talk him into just touching up the real bad spots and leaving the rest of the paint mostly original
