love your videos! I think charge partitioning in third strike kind of shakes up how charge characters work. it allows them to walk forward and do either a down up charge move or a left right charge move if they partially charge the move and then finish the charge quickly after. You only ever really see Urien players use this in neutral with tackle and headbutt and maybe with Remy's fireballs but it still makes them more interesting charge characters

The same system (a decreasing timer/gauge to input the required commands) that allows for charge partitioning also exists for Hugo (you can input a 360, step forward and add another to get the 720 super) allowing for some cool stuff (claps on block, buffering a 360, step 720)

I never really understood what's different between charge partinioning and just keeping the charge for a bit. Like you can hold down back in guilty gear, dash a bit and still do flaskick after having dashed if you had charge and not much time has passed

fwiw the cpu just cheats lol. It's not possible (glitching or not) to input a walking flash kick, they just have a pre set of reaction/behavior, if the cpu "decides" it's going to flashkick, it just comes out, no "input" or charge needed. Smash Ultimate actually has a really interesting take on charge characters in the form of Terry, and in this case, it's a weird emergent product of the way its inputs work. See, Terry not only has charge partitioning, but because Smash uses analog inputs, there's a range of stick positions that count as a "down" input for purposes of maintaining down charge but don't make him crouch, meaning he can charge while standing, walking or even dashing And from my testing, it's also affected by the stick's X-axis position - i.e. if you're holding significantly further left or right than down, you lose charge. As for the implications... I don't know, because it's not super widely used by Terry mains, and it's seemingly more practical on Smashbox than it is on a normal pad, due to the precision necessary to maintain such a specific analog stick position. It's not very well-documented or widely used tech, which honestly has me tempted to make my own guide for it. EDIT: As it turns out, the traditional fighter characters in Smash Ultimate have an input storage bug of their own, which most people call COIL (Command Orientation Input Lock). It's a weird product of the leniency measures put in to make sure right thumbstick inputs (which are a customizable macro of a button + a direction) wouldn't mess with motion inputs. The game basically stores three sets of analog stick inputs: left stick direction, right stick direction, and command direction. Command input is normally synchronized with left-stick direction, *except* when you're holding a direction on the right stick, at which point it's locked to whatever the input was when you first moved the right stick. This is most useful for Terry, since he can use it to charge rising tackle while moving freely, or to do a running Burn Knuckle without stopping or accidentally performing Power Dunk, but Ryu and Ken have some more niche uses for it as well

Hugo actually has something similar to this in Third Strike. You could store a full circle. This is generally how people would perform the tachi gigas, which is the "standing" 720 motion super, which requires no buffer. You can store a full circle for seconds, not eternally, but you get quite a while. Same thing happened in usf4 with zangief and hugo's supers if I remember right.

The character Midori in Fantasy Strike has a special throw that is similar to Honda's. He can throw instantly with no whiff animation as soon as his opponent is in range. To balance this he has to set it up first by landing a parry and it goes away if he gets hit. Also he glows when he has his special throw stored so the opponent knows not to approach carelessly from the ground.

Its ironic that specials which I recall hearing was originally a glitch became a normal feature but this charge storing glitch has not. I could picture input storage being used as a mechanic for certain characters to add personality to their gameplay. Interestingly, every example outlined in the video is entirely fitting for the characters in question. It makes Honda into a sturdy, defensive wall who is able to throw you to the mat at a moment's notice; makes Vega into a frightening and unpredictable threat who is ready to strike at you when it appears he's on the defensive; and makes Chun into someone who is ready to fight courageously even at risk to herself.

In that game specials are activated through the touch screen which means you can do any charge move without charging! (Also you can do walking spinning pile driver and 720 ultra with Geif) I sometimes wonder what a universe where charge characters never needed a charge would look like. 7:47 that's actually kinda a understatement lol. Like yeah, characters like Vega can go pretty well with him still, but for characters like Zangief and Cammy, it's absolutely miserable and bordeline unwinable, usually considered even worse than their matchups against the super turbo projectile characters, which is saying a lot Interesting point regarding Chun li tho, that's a neat way to look at it. I'm fine with charge characters being how they are, like ya know, they stick to it because it works, but that would be a neat way for Chun to be able to mix it up. I feel like the versions where she is more versatile is more so because either her main used inputs aren't charge ones, like in third strike she doesn't need to charge anything to get her supers out, so that would be a good way for her to be versatile while still having limits regarding charge.

With Chun Li you can store the super without having full meter ready. Do the super motion while continue holding forward and attacking your opponent. Once the super meter is charged you can use it without have to do the motion as long as you never pulled back. Very useful while walking forward and poking with punches. Once meter is full you can hit kick and immediately get the super without having to charge it. Basically you are pre-storing the super before meter is ready..

thats because it was a brand new move for Honda only introduced in Super, and so used brand new frames of animation to be drawn same goes for Kens various aditional command kicks and Ryus various new punches they were drawn later than the original SF II sprites and whilst close in style were just different enough to spot.

When Chun Li and Honda have their super stored, they can actually go neutral, or hold back for about 7 frames, then hold forward again to keep their stored super. So if you've got good reactions, you can still block. Also, this allows them to never lose their charge when getting crossed up. Simply mash back and forth a few times(or just time your direction change just right) while getting crossed up and you can still catch your opponent with a super. You can also mash out of dizzy or a grab and still keep the stored super this way.

Is Guile's famous - standing punch (heavy punch being the most damaging) into the somersault kick technically considered a stored special/super art? I guess this would go for other charge characters moves where an extra hit is forced into the last frames before the special/super art is started. E.g. SF3's Urien standing punch into headbutt special move and CVS 2's Mbison punch/kick into a pyschocrusher/knee press super art I think stored charging moves and super arts into the open should make a comeback as to open more possibilities for charge characters, however the moves/super art can only be stored for like 3 seconds AND less damaging.

Then the next input style glitch would be seen in SF4 vanilla (can't say it made it in SUPER AE OR OMEGA) None the less this tech is new to me. I wouldn't get serious in fighters until MVC2 and 3rd Strike before moment #37

Just a correction: reversal throws are guaranteed. There is only a 50% chance if you and the opponent mistime it, so both it is not a reversal and he misses throwing on the first possible frame. CE AI teaches this, mercilessly.

@Orwellian Future Is Now I know about them. The thing is I think that Capcom don't give a damn about this. Of course that there's some criticism about how stereotypical Street Fighter can get at times, but it was inevitable considering the size of the brand, but Capcom don't care about snowflakes because that's just not their target audience. When they "censor" Rainbow Mika critical art and costumes, it's for their sponsors, they are considering how their game will be televised, why would they try to appeal to a public that doesn't even play their games? And about less stereotypical characters, that definitively a plus for me and more characters should get this treatment, because a lot of their characters are uninteresting because they have only one interest (such as Honda and Deejay) And if people were ok with it on the past only show how shitty the world was people were ok with cartoons like these: kzread.info/dash/bejne/eImNw9SEc7fcec4.html Should we with back those old days? Nah. Generations can change their mindsets and thats cool

Its a neat feature, but if it were to come back i assume it'd be a bit more telegraphed (probably have the character flashing or something). There's so much cool shit going on in a match of ST that you'll NEVER realize if you aren't up on not just all the characters normals/moves (as with any fighter) but a whole boatload of glitches and unusual interactions.
