The Glass Slipper Ballet, Pt. 2

I've always loved Bronislau Kaper's score for this Leslie Caron/Michael Wilding version of the Cinderella story, so I replaced the film's mono soundtrack.

This sequence is really quite an interesting addition to the film since it's obviously intended to reflect the insecurity, isolation, loneliness, rejection, and sadness that this version of Cinderella has been enduring (with somewhat bad grace) most of her life. As I pointed out in the video for the first part of this sequence, there are a couple of unexpected parallels between this film and the later film "The Slipper And The Rose" which is also an adaptation of the Cinderella story. Both this film and that one include a plot device in which outside forces threaten to separate Cinderella from the prince forever because she as a commoner is regarded as unworthy of the prince. Granted, it's only a dream sequence in this case...but it's still enough to make a person wonder if the people who came up with the idea of "The Slipper And The Rose" were partly inspired by this film.

Ich liebe diesen Film. Schade, dass so etwas heute nicht mehr im Fernsehen zu sehen ist und nur noch Schund kommt.

Wilding was 42 when this was made and Caron about 22. Double her age but they work well together.
