Everything you did on georgiana was worth the wait. I cannot thank you enough for this documentary. Beautifully done. The movie and the book were great but this was done with care and easy to get to the points and the way you described on the people and places your directions were so well to follow through. Her life was fantastic and tragic with her marriage losing her daughter by someone else and different types of illness and infections. You helped to make this so clear thank you again.

My dear, I hope that you are teaching journalism at some very large, and, prestigious university. You are a journalist, extraordinaire.

I have been fascinated with the Duchess of Devonshire every since I saw the movie. I've dug into everything I could find online, not being near a library that would cater such biographies. She must've been such a charismatic woman. Even when she was a scandal in society, she was still permitted into the higher ranks of nobility. What a delight she really must have been to talk with. The movie made the duke appear to be a pretty horrible character but I imagine that he, like the Duchess, was simply a product of his environment. Thank you for this very well done biopic on Georgiana, "G". I feel like I finally know everything about her that I could know without having known her myself.

I found your documentary part 1&2 today and enjoyed the history of this famous English woman! Bravo!! 👏🏻👏🏻🥰🇨🇦

Absolutely amazing video on Georgiana Cavendish, the fabulous Duchess of Devonshire. This is so well documented and beautifully presented, it was worth waiting for this, the best so far dedicated to her. Thank you so much 😊❤

She was always one of my favorite biographies to read and watch because of all challenges she had to confront and to be so brave and to deal with her family life. The up and downs of personal and political and addictions very hard for her but made her the it girl of her time.

I’d love it if you could a video of Matilda of Boulogne, the Queen consort of King Stephen and the last Norman Queen Consort. She and Empress Matilda were the Elizabeth I and Mary, Queen of Scots of their time. That would be an awesome video

Thank you for this presentation, what an amazing lady very very intelligent with a beautifull personality, I did feel sad for some parts of her life.

I’ve really enjoyed learning about Georgiana. You can’t help but warm to this woman, despite her flaws. I feel I’ve got to know her through this and I know I would’ve loved to have had her as a friend. Did her illegitimate daughter ever find out who her Mother really was?

Yes, I believe she was told after her death, although I'm not sure what Eliza's immediate response was. However, she did name one of her daughters Georgiana, so she definitely wanted to remember her. 😊

Ooof been waiting to continue the story if Georgiana!! Glad it hath arrived🙏🙏 In the last video we got a complicated woman, it’s weird how she was (understandably) jealous of her husband and best friend having an affair yet still liked her and wanted her company; equally, Elizabeth seems to have cared for Georgiana too, while maintaining an affair with her husband, something she must’ve known hurt her… At least now we can see how her story turns out! Georgiana really was complicated! I think it was a mixture of her people-pleasing nature, natural kindness, and the fear that if she was divorced from William she would struggle to see her children again - Elizabeth herself was living proof of what could happen. ☹️

For the question, here goes a hotly debated topic: do you think Katherine of Aragon and Arthur consummated their marriage? Personally, I can see why people think they did, but ultimately believe they didn’t. First of all, as you said (and I didn’t know this before, so vielen dank :), there was no display of blood soaked sheets after their wedding, which highly suggests to me that nothing other than sleeping occurred (I am aware some women don’t bleed, but if it had been consummated and she hadn’t bled it would’ve been a scandal and I would expect something to be said about it) Then there’s the fact that, even immediately after Arthur’s death, her ladies said they hadn’t done it. Willoughby and the other witnesses said Arthur came out of his chambers after the wedding saying that it was “a good past time to have a wife” and that it was “thirsty work” (subtle💀), but they only came forward- conveniently- when Henry wanted rid of Katherine, so they’re hardly the most reliable witnesses. Even if he did say it, which I doubt, especially as it doesn’t chime with his known personality, it would’ve been understandable of a 15 year old trying to appear all manly. Finally, there’s Katherine herself. She was an incredible pious woman, and, while she could’ve lied in court but then confessed to a priest, she said *in* confession that they never consummated the union. To lie under confession is an almost unforgivable sin, and Katherine would have known it. Ultimately, it doesn’t matter to Henry’s “Great Matter” wether they did it or not, as Henry’s reading of the Bible was pathetically flawed (as I’m sure he knew), but it’s still an interesting debate :) What do you think?

I absolutely agree with you! I don't think it was consummated, either. But I do have a small doubt (more on that in a minute). Katherine may well have been the daughter of the original, 'King of Spin', but she herself doesn't seem to have ever lied about anything else. Katherine was, as you say, far too pious to have not only lied about such a huge matter, but also to have lied to the Pope when he sent representatives to question her. The lack of blood-soaked sheets is a huge thing. I've no doubt that even if the English didn't want to do it, Isabella and Fernando would have demanded it, knowing how powerful such imagery could be. As for Arthur's bragging, well...show me a teenage boy who has supposedly never fibbed about his prowess with the ladies to his mates, and I'll show you a liar. 🤣 There was so much scrutiny on them both, coupled with the fact that a lot of Arthur's entourage were slightly older and had almost certainly all slept with a woman - he was hardly going to come out and say, "Guys? I couldn't figure out where anything went, and I got embarrassed!" 🤭🤔 Katherine knew it was a huge issue, and had she actually consummated her marriage with Arthur, I do think she would have been honest, mostly....although there is always one sticking point for me, and that's Mary. Once Mary came along, and once Henry started floating the idea of wanting another wife and a son, Katherine knew what was going to happen. And I can promise, a loving mother would do ANYTHING to protect their child, and it's possible Katherine would even have risked her immortal soul for her daughter. It's not a definite argument against, but for me, it's something that leaves doubt. I think there is enough other evidence to show consummation probably didn't happen, but it's never 100%.... 🤔

Good video. Saw the duchess movie. I heard that she is an ancestor of princess Diana who was also had a reputation as a party girl and was married to a guy that she didn't choose.

It must have been agony being away from them, and I think it was amazing how she kept herself going when she was in Europe by deciding, "No, I'm not 'away', I'm just researching things to help teach the children for when I return. This is all for them."

Its funny how she had a hard time having babies but ended up having a Bastard, I guess she really wanted affection, its not something I would have done as it was known what would happen if a wife had an affair. Georgina was such a good person like what she did for Elizabeth was really nice. I really wish she was able to leave this guy and have a good relationship with someone else. Also Charles Grey is the reason for earl grey tea.

I’m sure I’ve seen a movie not about Georgina but it had a very similar plot to the three ladies going on holiday together!

Unpopular opinion, maybe, the husband, William Cavendish strikes me as a rather sympathetic character. Not a great husband, he still tolerated her gambling habit, and she gave him a legit heir. I think the man kept it together at a time when men were, at best clumsy with their kids. He did his best. Give him that.

I actually agree with you, I think they were probably, in a weird way, suited for each other? They were both flawed people, and had both had abnormal upbringings purely from being part of the aristocracy. I think they probably also recognised that in each other, to some degree.

Poor girl. I had a liver abscess and it was horrendous. Also one of the world's first thruples!

That's a fair point! But I think a lot of women who couldn't vote, as well as some men, who may have been able to influence husbands, brothers, uncles, employers, etc., who could vote - Georgiana herself couldn't vote! But you're right, it's certainly not as black and white as it appears.

when the vote is left to a mass of people it becomes no different than flipping a coin this is why the electoral voting system was developed, it was developed by people who knew of the dangers of the corruption that comes when there are no checks and balances put on a system. The electoral system allows for smaller areas to be protected and represented, verses the encroachment that happens when one group is allowed to decide for the whole area and the larger the area that is effected by one vote the greater the infringement

although I don't agree with her political view, especially during the exact decade and time she started obsessing over it (I mean, couldn't she find any other time?😐) I think she really was a character! and although you and some might suggest she was a third wheel in her marriage, I don't think so. I actually saw as more of extra there. Don't get me wrong, I don't like William the slightest, but even though he didn't love or respected Georgiana, but he did make her far important part of his life than I expect he would have! I wasn't expecting him to be that much jealous and controlling towards her because of everything that happened. I actually expected him to be more uncaring than before, because that's what he actually was. but no, he actually quite made her very important and although I don't consider his behavior as nice and don't agree with anything he did, but since he was fool enough to get manipulated by lady Foster, more than once, I think I kinda just put aside all of my expectations of him🤦‍♀Georgiana wasn't nearly as least flawed woman as I expected her to be and her gambling addiction became really annoying, but she did lived a full life for that time I guess, with children she clearly influenced, a memorable romantic affair which although ended in tragic way, but had much more passion than I expected it to and I'm glad about it💗💗💗

You're right, it's very difficult to really categorise their relationship! I hesitated to mark it as a polygamous relationship though, purely as there doesn't seem to have been strict equality between them, and Georgiana possibly agreed to it initially under duress, but it's probably the closest description for it. Especially as William grew older and nearly lost Georgiana to an illness, he clocked that he did care about her in some form.
